To make a long story short his username and password are still in the computer. I have no way of getting in contact with him and he hasn't contacted his parents yet either. Is there a way I can change the login password or bypass it even? Remember I'm running XP Pro.

View 1 Replies View RelatedFor security reasons, Microsoft does not allow parents (computer administrators) to check on, maintain, adjust or otherwise enter their kids' (limited users) XP profiles without either resetting their passwords or waiting for them to come home and being confrontational about it.Ideally I would like to be able to log on to a limited user account from my administrator account without tampering with anyone's passwords-resetting them or otherwise. Actually, I have little interest in the (step) kids' personal life and stuff. Alternately, perhaps you may help me with my ultimate goal: limiting screensaver activity:
View 2 Replies View RelatedApologies in advance for this being in the wrong place, etc. I'm just a little stuck, and not the most savvy person with computers. So, I have this laptop - Windows XP. Maybe a year old. Never had any problems with it before. But about two days ago, I turned it on and it just started repeating the letter 'j'. With irregular pauses. Even if there wasn't any programs running - straight from the start screen, when I went to type in my password - j. jjj. jjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj. Though, y'know, it was just a series of dots, since it was in the password box. But.they were 'j's. It doesn't seem to matter whether there is actually anything like Word open, either. After getting rather annoyed at the computer, and button-mashing the entire keyboard, it stopped repeating 'j' and started on '`'. Not... not actually better.

I was helping him set up internet and outlook express as he has just signed up with a wireless internet connection. We were doing a disk clean up, had eliminated all the games, music and adware files that his son had on the PC and had downloaded AVG (he had no virus protection at all and I insisted before he started using the internet we download some form of protection) and were doing a virus check ( 1900 files, over 200 virused with mainly win32/parite but a lot of trojan horses too!!!)

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhile trying to sort out a fairly unimportant problem I have almost wrecked my operating system.
The system:- Windows XP professional with all updates until Friday (now Sunday)
Computer:- Dont know the make, I think it might be Elite with 1.7 dual core processor, 2 Gb ram 300 Gb HD and Nvdia Graphics card, also installed, a TV card, wireles card and A DVD/CD drive.
The problem:- I was trying to bypass the Windows log on screen and sought help in this forum. The advice I was given seemed reasonable so I did it
What happened:- After making the changes the computer booted up properly but when Windows started I got a lot of splash screens and pop-ups as if it were a new installation and to my horror I could not access any of my data.
What I did:- I tried to use system restore but found that all the points I tried could not be restored.I tried shutting down Zonealarm (another post refers to this) which did not help,so I tried to uninstall Zone alarm but could not as apparently a dll has gone missing. So I deleted everything I could find related to Zone alarm and tried system restore again.Disaster.
The log on screen had reappeared and I thought I had solved the problem. Clicked on OK and the screen with only the mouse pointer appeared and stayed there for about 15 minutes, then the desk top picture appeared, nothing else. About 30 minutes later the icons and <Start> appeared. Everything seemed to work and I had found my files again But I am unable to access the Internet or outlook express, the IE diagnostic seems to think it is a question of Firewall. This could be as the Zonealarm Icon is still in the tooltray even though I thought I had deleted the whole of the program.
I would be grateful for help in two areas. First and most important How can I regain access to the net. Second repairing the ridiculously long start up.
i set up network setup wizard which led to csnw show in the control panel moreover now the way i log in and log off has also changed and when i start my comp it asks for a password.when i press ctrl alt and delete together instead og task manager opening a window security sumthing opens up i want to restore my log in and log off to normal state and delete the csnw **** and restore the task manager.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was doing a clean up with Ccleaner etc and in my haste I did not take note of what I was clicking. Spybot Search and Destroy flashed up and I clicked to allow, or not allow as the case may be, to do something to, from what I can remember, 'WLON' or something similarly named. In any case, what happens now is that I fire up the computer, enter my password, the desktop briefly flashes up for a split second(no icons) and then it immediately logs off and goes to password entry again.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy account on my computer (Win XP Pro SP2) is an Administrator account. Over a year ago, I got tired of entering my password because I an the only person that uses this computer. I did something so it would boot without the password screen appearing ( I don't remember what, but I think I left the password line blank).
Since the computer boots directly to my account, I am never prompted to enter a password; but if I use Power Options (and the computer sleeps), it wakes to the login screen and I cannot reenter my account. I have to reboot. On the login screen, I have tried leaving the password blank and entering every password I use, but I get an Invalid Password response.
I got Compaq Armada 1592 Its screen said password expired, enter old password, then the new password. I entered old password, tried all sorts of combinations of upper case, lower case I thought I could just bypass that screen and start as new user, but apparently

I use to update my Xp SP-2 regularly from MS website. Now a days it is insisting to install "Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130)" first to proceed for downloading update files. Is it a FORCE or I can bypass this tool. I do not want to install it, as somebody told me this is a tool by MS to takeout personal information on my OS (XP) and MS Office and other MS Software.I know I use genuine legal copy. But why should I allow MS to take more information ? Is not WPA through internet is not sufficient ? Can this tool take information on other products/3rd party software like NERO,MS OFFICE and ArcSOft ?
