I am running XP-Pro SP2. Does anyone know how I can add an item to the context menu allowing me to delete bypassing recycle bin. I want the context menu item to give the same result as holding down the"SHIFT" key when pressing "DEL"

How does one delete duplicate context-menu entries in XP?For example, if I right click on a .gif image file or .jpg image file, TWO "Preview"'s show up in the right context menu - one bolded, the other not. One opens with one application, the other with a different application.I have already attempted to go to Folder options, File Types, Advanced, and try and "find & fix" from thre, but never came across the dups.

No properties are displayed; no error message comes up; nothing.When I try this, I am logged in as an administrator.A search of the forum revealed numerous similar questions which have never been solved. The only one that seems to be solved is regarding the properties of the display (i.e. for wallpaper, screensavers, etc.), and that works properly on my system.
View 6 Replies View RelatedThe second open used to give me an error, I fixed that by adding a registry at HKCR*, I had to add the Shell entry there, none previously existed, and then added openas, then command and the default key which I have set to"rundll32.exe shell32.dll,OpenAs_RunDLL %1" The second open takes a while to load (5-10 seconds) and then an "Open With" window appears, but it is the wrong one. It lists the "Recommended Programs" and "Other Programs". I would like the one that when you go over "open with" a list of programs pop up w/o going to this other window. I also downloaded ShellExView, and just to see disabled all of the shell menus, and nothing changed, it worked as it did above.

View 2 Replies View RelatedRecently whenever i right click on anything or anywhere on my computer, be it the desktop or an avi file etc, the list that should normally open instantly, takes a long time to open - this can vary from only a few seconds to 10+ seconds.Once i have waited for the menu to open however and click off it, the next time i right click on the same point it opens instantly. I presume this is because it has cached the menu or something.Ive had a look around the internet.

I use Spybot S&D and Ad-aware and Norton Antivirus and have completed scans for all of them. The context menu (right click) does not work on files in Windows Explorer or on the desktop, but works in Start menu, web browser, etc.Also I cannot access Properties for files. When I right click a par2 & select "open with", it defaults to the wrong program, and the correct one (Quick Par) is not listed. When I try using the browse option from this point, it ignores my selection of Quick Par's .exe. When I go to WE/tools/folder options file types, I get the same dialogues with the same result. When I try to delete the par2 association from here, hoping to reset it the file to the right priogram, the delete button is dimmed. If I open Quick par & select the file in question, it performs normally, but I want the much more convenient right click context menu option. How can I associate these files with Quick Par, which the pc seems determined to ignore?

At the end of the day, there was one folder that I could not delete from the recycle bin. When I tried to empty the recycle bin, it would delete files until it got to this one. Then I would get the message:(Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk). I would then have to go into the recycle bin and delete the remaining files manually. But this one would still not delete out of the recycle bin.

I've got Windows XP on my laptop. I recently created a file on my desktop with some Mp3's in it. I moved the Mp3's to my player and deleted the contents. Therefore, the folder remained empty. When I went to delete the folder, the recycle bin would not let me put it in there. I get a message saying: "Cannot delete (name of file): cannot find the specified file. Yesterday I was tidying up and binned the file because I no longer needed it. Then, doing routine PC 'maintenance' I went to empty my Recycle Bin and couldn't remove this particular file. I get the message: "Cannot delete Dc4: It is being used by another program or person. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again." The filename is actually Scans2. I know of no programs running that might be using this scan. I read some other help sites, downloaded a utility called Mboot but couldn't select the file to drag and drop into Mboot's space. I can't rename it, move it, restore it or delete it ! I give up - I know this isn't a major problem but I worry about viruses and the like - I have Norton Firewall and anti-virus etc. all up to date.

Close any programs that might be using the file and try again." "Restore" command, attempting to cut and paste, or attempting to drag either file to another folder yield this error message: "cannot move Dc8:it is being used by another person or program. View 3 Replies View RelatedI use my D: drive exclusively as a backup. I would like for it to keep a few items in case I delete something by accident, but I want to be able to empty it. I can't figure out how to empty it. It does not have the trashbox icon like the "Recycled" folder on my C drive. It does not have an "Empty Recycle Bin" in the File Menu drop down like the one on the C: drive. I have tried several times to delete the items in it. They go away when deleted as expected by they keep coming back. They are like zombies, you can't kill them.

This folder is named: S-1-5-21-1708537768-175567821-839522155-1004 I am unable to delete this folder. To see any files now I have to open up Norton EuErase Wizard I do this by clicking on this unwanted folder (S-1-5-21-1708537768-175567821-839522155-1004) I have another drive - I have each drive independent - both create this folder.
