I am having Windows 7/WinRar bug problem after installing my new monitor's drivers & software. It only occurs if I have items in the menu that have both an icon and a submenu (TortoiseSVN & TortoiseGit).
View 7 RepliesIn Win XP/Home/SP2 (all updates applied), when I right click on an item on my desktop (shortcut, file, folder, etc.), or in Windows Explorer (not to be confused with Internet Explorer), then click on "Properties," nothing happens. No properties are displayed; no error message comes up; nothing.When I try this, I am logged in as an administrator.A search of the forum revealed numerous similar questions which have never been solved. The only one that seems to be solved is regarding the properties of the display (i.e. for wallpaper, screensavers, etc.), and that works properly on my system.
View 6 Replies View RelatedThe second open used to give me an error, I fixed that by adding a registry at HKCR*, I had to add the Shell entry there, none previously existed, and then added openas, then command and the default key which I have set to"rundll32.exe shell32.dll,OpenAs_RunDLL %1" The second open takes a while to load (5-10 seconds) and then an "Open With" window appears, but it is the wrong one. It lists the "Recommended Programs" and "Other Programs". I would like the one that when you go over "open with" a list of programs pop up w/o going to this other window. I also downloaded ShellExView, and just to see disabled all of the shell menus, and nothing changed, it worked as it did above.

I've already cleaned the registry with RegCleaner and RegSeeker but the items still remain in my context menu. How do I get rid of these things?
View 6 Replies View RelatedRecently whenever i right click on anything or anywhere on my computer, be it the desktop or an avi file etc, the list that should normally open instantly, takes a long time to open - this can vary from only a few seconds to 10+ seconds.Once i have waited for the menu to open however and click off it, the next time i right click on the same point it opens instantly. I presume this is because it has cached the menu or something.Ive had a look around the internet.

These extra actions do not occur when I open a single file from the context menu. These extra actions do not occur when I select "preview" or any command other than "open". This problem seems related to "shell.dll", open ommand action settings, registry settings, or shell extension hooks. But occasionaly, it is desirable to open the folder contents in a new window. For this one has to start again from 'My Computer Is there a registry hack that will add a 'Open in a new window' item to the folder context menu ?

I use Spybot S&D and Ad-aware and Norton Antivirus and have completed scans for all of them. The context menu (right click) does not work on files in Windows Explorer or on the desktop, but works in Start menu, web browser, etc.Also I cannot access Properties for files. View 7 Replies View RelatedRunning xp home sp2. I cannot get it to recognize the program Quick Par for par2 files. When I right click a par2 & select "open with", it defaults to the wrong program, and the correct one (Quick Par) is not listed. When I try using the browse option from this point, it ignores my selection of Quick Par's .exe. When I go to WE/tools/folder options file types, I get the same dialogues with the same result. When I try to delete the par2 association from here, hoping to reset it the file to the right priogram, the delete button is dimmed. If I open Quick par & select the file in question, it performs normally, but I want the much more convenient right click context menu option. How can I associate these files with Quick Par, which the pc seems determined to ignore?

now whenever i open my pc, my desktop and taskbar and start menu,etc goes away after a few seconds! Now i rely on the task manager..
I recently purchased a new computer and was not connected to theinternet when the product activation wizard popped up so I closed it.The next day, after establishing an internet connection I decided toactivate XP. I could not figure out how to open the wizard so I wentto the help area to try and figure out how to open it. (Thectivation icon was not in accessories/system tools). When I thentried to run the wizard the computer informed me that XP was alreadyactivated. Could this have happened on its own? View 12 Replies View RelatedI added some new software to my Pc (Win XP system) and now I notice that when I use the Start - All Programs - and view my list of programs I have 3 x Wide Columns but I can't se the 3rd column fully as the first 2 are really wide pushing the 3rd nearly off the screen.
How to narrow this view list.I tried to 'drag' the walls of the colunm but that option is not available.
i just bought a widescreen monitor. i use webshots desktop and the wallpaper comes from that program. but sdince the monitor is wiodescreen i get vertical bars in desktop. I try to correct it throw strecht,tile position, but nothing changes the batrs are there. is anyone knows a way to make photos from webshots full screen?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI also have been using a Dell 19" LCD (normal) monitor...using the analog connector rather than the digital one.When I hooked up the Samsung this afternoon, I got the desktop and installed the drivers because although the screen looked fine, I had a black 3" wide strip down the right hand side so the desktop wasn't full screen. I used the buttons on the monitor to make that adjustment and immediately everything 'stretched' to the right and the icons and fonts looked elongated.I have to tell you also that I normally use 1024x768 for my resolution. Using digital connector I remember it automatically went to the largest resolution available and everything was so tiny not only on the desktop but also on the net that I couldn't see anything. Digital would not let me readjust back down so I went back to the analog. The wide screen LCD is also using analog.

View 1 Replies View RelatedLast night, I had a few friends over, and one of them had spy sweeper with antivirus. I was going to install that, but later decided that i would just re install my norton antivirus (because it wasnt do the live update needed). I re installed, and after a nice long full system scan, my system came up clean. I continued using my computer for some time last night, and then all of a sudden, the desktop icons disappeared, as well as the start menu. So what does someone do in this situation? I restarted my computer and tried and to hope for the best. Well, it turns out that restarting the computer allows the icons to pop up for only about 3 seconds, and then they disappear again and im left with my wallpaper.I opened up internet explorer by quickly double tapping the icon when they appeared, but then they disappeared again. So I hit control alt delete, and then started a new task which was called explorer. This brought up the icons again, but only for a few seconds...again. So I ran norton again, but only found 1 tracking cookie after an entire full system scan. I have no idea what to do, but im so sick of paying to get things fixed, and everything has been breaking down on me for no reason.
View 9 Replies View RelatedFor the last 3 days when she starts her compter up, it boots up fine and loads widows fine as well. When the system is doen booting and its get to the ddesktop screen, no icons are avaialable on teh desktop. Nor is the task bar and start menu available. The only way i can use internet explorer or run any program is fromthe task manager and press ctl+alt+del and run. The mouse is availabe but i can not right click, because there is nothing on the desktop to click.
