Feb 20, 2006My problems with win98 are a thing of the past.I still have to install all of the previous programs.Just got WinXP installed with AMD Athlon XP 1800+ and 512 Mb RAM.I am gonna do read the walk through, the help section but is there anything i need to do first. The XP firewall is on so does this means that i no longer need Zone Alarm?However, there is no Antivirus. I previously used Norton.I figure I'd download another free Norton version later. Nov 28, 2005I just got the trial version of XP x64. I have a 64-bit processor and TuneUp utilities recommends I upgrade to x64. I have a couple of concerns, though. First, just because I have a 64-bit processor does not necessarily mean I have 64-bit drivers and 64-bit compatible programs, does it? Second, if I install the trial version and the trial ends; what then? Will I just go back to XP Pro or will I have sold my soul and be forced to purchase the full version?

I have enjoyed the much faster OS, and have grown to have many files, of many variety and size, and DO NOT WANT TO LOSE EVERYTHING by reinstalling windows.I was wondering if anybody, had any suggestions as to how I could extend the trial or reuse the trial while retaining all of my precious information? (PS- Currently I can only have my computer on for 2 hours, after 1 hour of usage, a window pops up saying 'your windows has expired, you have 16 days left to restore access to this installation of Windows, your computer will restart in 1 hour. I have a program called HDDLife Pro (trial version) that says my hard disks are at 53% and 85%. The program measures the current tempurature and how much life is left on your hard disks. I don't have alot of things installed on my computer. The total space all the programs in my Add and Remove programs file takes up is only 1GB. Since I had to start over and re-install everything and my programs only add up to 1GB, Shouldn't I have more free space ?

Aug 28, 2006Windows Update keeps trying to update Office 2003.I have a trial version of Office 2003 that came with my computer.I do not want it at this time, but I may want it at some point in the future.I don't know if it can be hidden from the Windows update but if not, I am not sure how to fully get rid of it.
It has never been "installed."Windows update fails every time, of course, because it isn't now nor has it ever been installed.The biggest problem is that it keeps trying to apply the same updates over and over and over.
