I have a client that for some reason AVG will not update except manually going to the grisoft site and downloading the update. I have tried every thing including installing from a CD, Installing from the Grisoft website, updating manually, and for some reason the AVG update manager will not work. Can someone recommend another Free Antivirus that is as easy to use and as automatic as AVG is, that I can install on her computer. This is an elderly woman that needs things as simple as possible. She can be taught to follow prompts but I would like to keep things as easy as possible. for example I send her emails regularly to remind her to run Adaware and Spybot,

I am using AntiVir Guard, is there something else more reliable?I am just curious on what anyone can suggest.I used to use McAfee, but then a common problem that a lot of people have been getting apparently. So it not only crashed my pc when it went out of whack it got so bad that i couldn't even get to the uninstall menu, it would kinda show...so i finally had formated my main hard drive, and completely wiped it out and fixed it. So for now I am just using a nice free antivirus program...Does anyone have a suggestion of maybe a safer one? Maybe something that would pick up on more virus protection.
Running: Zone Alarm Firewall free edition. AVG Antivirus Free Edition Spybot Search and Destroy Free Edition anti Spyware Ad-Aware free edition anti adware Spyware Blaster spyware preventer? I have no problem running these Apps on my 3.2ghz p4 w/ 1gb of ram.
My problems with win98 are a thing of the past.I still have to install all of the previous programs.Just got WinXP installed with AMD Athlon XP 1800+ and 512 Mb RAM.I am gonna do read the walk through, the help section but is there anything i need to do first. The XP firewall is on so does this means that i no longer need Zone Alarm? However, there is no Antivirus. I previously used Norton.I figure I'd download another free Norton version later. XP had some recommendations but which should i choose?http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/viruses/wsc/en-us/default.mspx.There's a free 1 year trial with Computer Associates but I'm not familiar with them.

does anybody know why i have 1.10 GB free space in Safe Mode and 804 MB free space in Normal? thanks. and i know that 804 MB free space isnt alot, this is a pretty small harddrive from what the computer says it is .
Other than the 3 computers in my signature, (If you count the PPC), I have another, older, Desktop. A Dell Dimesnion. P II 387 Mhz, 97 MB RAM, 8 MB Video It is running Windows XP. I have all the visual displays turned doen and it is adjusted for best performance
I currently have 13.0 GB of used space and 5.58 GB of free space. I would like to get more free space. My computer is about 2 years old. In those two years, I had to re-install Windows XP and everything else on my computer...for reasons unknown...I recently performed a New Installation of Windows XP on my computer. I don't have alot of things installed on my computer. The total space all the programs in my Add and Remove programs file takes up is only 1GB. Since I had to start over and re-install everything and my programs only add up to 1GB, Shouldn't I have more free space ?
i'd jst like to know if eTrust EZ Antivirus (and also its Anti-Spyware and Anti-Spam) is a good option or not for regular use. And also is it a safer bet over Norton? have used it for barely 12 hours, so have no clue as to what its like.I know that Norton majorly slows down the PC and like tht but so far thats what im the most comfortable with. Ive used McAfee twice, for 2 months or so each time. It has let me down both the times, so looking for options apart from Norton. THough heavy on the system, i think its th best. Also, could someone help me with my graphics driver (+ virus) problem? posted the problem yesterday, emtronics has done his best to help me out but not much has really improved.. so if anyone else could also chip in and help me out.
At least once a week I get this message: "To free up disk space, OE can compact messages". I just click "OK". I have 132 GB available so why do I get a message like this?
hard drive is 30Gigabytes. He only has 1.5 Gb free. Can you tell me where to look to free up some space? I mean, which folders would have the bulk of space? He doesn't download music or movies so I don't know where all his space went.
Ive been told that AntiVir (the free anti-virus) has an outtanding detection rate and its supposed to be the best free AV for detection? is this right? Does AVG and AntiVir Free pass the VB100% tests? the reason Iam asking is because Iam about to setup my friends new laptop which he bought his daughters for xmas, I need to know which will be best for his Vista Basic Laptop.
I've been using this utility for about 6 months now and its been sitting in my startup menu all this time. I'm currently trying to clean it out and leave only the important stuff. I'm wondering if i take AVG out will i take advantage of its features like the resident shield and email scanning, anyone know?
I am running XP SP2 with all patches installed. I was wondering if the free version of AVG antivirus will work with an OEM version of windows I am running? I thought I read it would not but I am not at all sure. I am currently running Norton but it will expire soon.

Nothing else on the partition except XP. Swap file, different partition. Apps, different partition. When I loaded XP on this partition perhaps a year ago, it had plenty of space. Now it's full. I've run the usual XP disk cleanup helper, deleted everything in any temp file I can find, cleaned out prefetch, moved all the NTUninstall folders to a different partition. Uninstalled unused apps, since I know they leave stuff in C: even though I've installed them somewhere else). I gained nearly 400MB when I did that, but now the space is back down to 80MB in less than a week. Where is all this bloat coming from? What can I do to trim it back down to size? Yea, I have PartitionMagic (old, v8), but I'd rather just trim the excess, if that's possible. I get nervous moving partitions around.
Being new to this computer DVD player business, I was wondering if anyone knows a site where I can get a FREE DVD player that is good? I will look in COSTCO and WAL-MART to see what I can find, but I would like the opinions on this forum.
I am seeing 9G usage on C, and I checked Windows Explorer for a breakdown; but the tally comes no where near 9G. Is there another way to determine disk usage?
