You know how when you get a program it might let you have a free trialfor a few days? Well when the trial is up is there a way to remove thisprogram completely, reinstall and then do the free trial again? Uninstalling it and then installing it again doesnt work, the computercan still remember my trial is up. Is there a file somewhere that emembers this, that I can delete?
Format hard drive - Dont want to do this Change date - Tried, doesn't wor Buy it - Contact manufacturer - Will have to do this.i dont really want to spend $20 for a program im planning to use for 1 minute. it was a 48hr trial andi installed it before i needed to use
How does software keep track of how many days you've been using it? Does it have something to do with the registry?Do you know of any ways to "reset" the software after the trial period has expired? I used to re-load my fresh OS using Norton Ghost then install the software again but it got tedious.
I just got the trial version of XP x64. I have a 64-bit processor and TuneUp utilities recommends I upgrade to x64. I have a couple of concerns, though. First, just because I have a 64-bit processor does not necessarily mean I have 64-bit drivers and 64-bit compatible programs, does it? Second, if I install the trial version and the trial ends; what then? Will I just go back to XP Pro or will I have sold my soul and be forced to purchase the full version?
Current situation: 2 minutes remaining in a repair installation of WinXP Home, I get an error with a large X and the words "has not passed Windows Logo testing." Below that, it says "This software will not be installed...." If I click OK or turn off at this point, the pc reboots and restarts the setup program at 39 minutes remaining. If the CD is not in place, I get a blue screen asking for the CD.
If like me you have been fortunate enough to get your grubby mits on a copy of XP service pack 2, and have installed it and been somewhat annoyed to discover the "For testing purposes only. Build 2600.xpsp2.... etc" now loitering on your desktop above the time then you can remove this simply.Open up Regedit and navigate to the keys.
Many thanks for your very helpful forum-I have learned a lot by reading the comments.I have already downloaded Ewido,Adaware and run them to clear out spyware, adware and odd bits of Trojans that were not totally cleared before. Now when I run the two programs all I get are tracking cookies.Still my computer locks up for a minute or so at times, especially when I click on a new window. For a while I put it down to the amount of programs etc I had on my computer. However after clearing out some thing like 245k of programs, junketc etc,the computer still hangs for a while.I have installed more ram memory and run Xram pro to give me back more ram when I run short as some of the windows programs seem to eat up myram especially iexplorer and the longer I run my pc the more it uses.{I knowwindows will give me extra memory when things are critical, but I often needa boost in ram when I am running a webconferencing program].
the problem also happened before SP2 was installed. Frequently [i.e. 2-3 times an hour when I am using the system] and even occasionally when the machine is in StandBy [!] the disk starts cranking away full bore [i.e. the disk light is on almost constantly and it sounds really REALLY busy] for 2-3 minutes ... then it seems to start slowing down and eventually becomes quiet. I don't have a clue what is going on. When I bring up Windows Task Manager and look at the Processes tab I see a couple of entries whose I/O counts are changing a little bit [maybe 3-4 reads and/or writes a second] but nothing shows the huge counts that I think are going on based on the noise I hear from the drive. When it is in this frantic disk mode just about anything else that I might be trying to do comes to a standstill
Sometimes when I click my start button it freezes the whole toolbar, this doesn't make sense as I have a reasonably powerful machine (check specs) and when I check task manager my cpu usage is at 2-4% and I have less then 20 processes running taking up 200,000k or less. I once had a virus on my computer but I followed the steps, removed it and formatted my hdd then reinstalled fresh windows xp pro and now this issue has come up. Just recently (after the problem appeared) I tried going to run regedt32 Hkey_Current_usercontrol paneldesktopMenuShowDelay and lowered that to 0 in a hope of reducing freezes but I haven't seen any difference.
Using a Toshiba Satellite 1800 Laptop 1GHz Intel P3 - BIOS Ver 1.90 04/18/2002.
The past week or two it seems that the computer locks up, the Task Manager shows the CPU running at 100%. It allows some activity all be it slow & shutting down all programs (which are not locked up) does not stop the activity - including disconnecting the internet. Have run Norton scan, Spybot S&D and Adaware with nothing of significance found. Ran HiJackThis and found some startup stuff and stopped them from running but I don't know enough about the programs that are running to remove them.
Last time I booted I had to force a shutdown after waiting for 15 minutes. Next reboot took 22 minutes for the CPU to back off of 100%. I started Task Mgr very early into the boot, just before the icons started to appear and it showed 33 processes running. I watched as 14 more started up all while the CPU was steady at 100% usage. Then at 5 minutes after booting the processor dropped to 50% bounced around for a minute then went back to 100%. There was some activity through the modem (cable) but not very much. I unplugged the modem power. I shut down Skype, MSN Messenger and MS Defender and about a minute later the CPU dropped to 27%. Nothing of what I shut down appeared to alter anything.
I hope someone can see something...
Here is my latest HiJackThis log

I have a question regarding downloading trial versions of software. Once the trial period is over, does it automatically cancel or do I have to cancel it somehow in order to not pay the purchase price?
I have XP and trialled Microsoft Office 2007 for 3mths. The trial period expired and I went back to my old OE6. I decided to uninstall the trial Office 07 as I couldn't afford to purchase it, but now Outlook Express has disappeared? Where are all my emails, address book etc?
Regards to all, this is my first posting and I believe that you will be gentle to me. I am looking for a tool/software that can manage my system registry files. I know that I can get them online but I need to try them before I actually use them so that I can be sure of the results. I have read lot's of reviews and found out that currently, the best registry cleaner on the market is Digeus Registry Cleaner.
i installed the acronis trial version but when the acronis expires, i uninstalled it. But when i reinstall it.it says expired. I try to erase all the informations about acronis in RegEdit. But still no success.it always prompts me expired.
I have had Windows XP 64 bit trial edition for some time now, and yes long enough to expire the 120 day trial of use. I have enjoyed the much faster OS, and have grown to have many files, of many variety and size, and DO NOT WANT TO LOSE EVERYTHING by reinstalling windows.I was wondering if anybody, had any suggestions as to how I could extend the trial or reuse the trial while retaining all of my precious information? Are there any loop holes? Should I get a free linux distribution? Should I buy some whiskey and a gun? What would you reccommend? (PS- Currently I can only have my computer on for 2 hours, after 1 hour of usage, a window pops up saying 'your windows has expired, you have 16 days left to restore access to this installation of Windows, your computer will restart in 1 hour. In addition I really dont want to shell out money if possible in anyway!)
All of a sudden, in the last couple of days, I find that I have to go through my Start>Turn off Computer > Restart twice in order for the computer to restart. Unfortunately, I've made a LOT of changes in the past few days (new programs, a system restore, windows registry cleanup, startup configuration changes, etc.) so I have no idea what caused this.
The install went fine, until I was prompted to activate. The key wouldn't work, obviously. It wasn't long until I found out why. One computer per key.Now the trial has ended The OS uninstalls itself and I have to wait to get a legit copy before I can continue on with the work I have on my HDD. The uninstall program formats the entire drive, leaving me with NOTHING left.
when i open my internet , a pop out comes to screen saying your free 3 days trial is over and i need to make payment even if i dont want to. it doesnt go off.
I need to download powerpoint, not the full version, a disk from school that I need to look at. I asked before, got a small version trial, don't remember that opened it. When I installed the new hard drive, forgot about powerpoint. Now I need it for a picture sent to me. It only took a minute or less to download the version of powerpoint
I have McAfee firewall and anti-virus. Awhile ago I installed the security center and privacy service. After time ran out on the trial my M at the lower left corner is black now. I uninstalled the privacy service and the spam thing. But the small M is still black. How do I remove this security center to get my red M back? Is there a news group for McAfee?
My problems with win98 are a thing of the past.I still have to install all of the previous programs.Just got WinXP installed with AMD Athlon XP 1800+ and 512 Mb RAM.I am gonna do read the walk through, the help section but is there anything i need to do first. The XP firewall is on so does this means that i no longer need Zone Alarm? However, there is no Antivirus. I previously used Norton.I figure I'd download another free Norton version later. XP had some recommendations but which should i choose?http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/viruses/wsc/en-us/default.mspx.There's a free 1 year trial with Computer Associates but I'm not familiar with them.
I am working on a friends computer running XP PRO. When shutting down ie, clicking the Turn Off button, Windows always reboots as if Restart was selected.
I've worked for 2 days on this problem off and on and found no working solution yet. To make it short and sweet, if I right-click on any folders or on the hard drive icons in My Computer explorer.exe freezes. I have a program called HDDLife Pro (trial version) that says my hard disks are at 53% and 85%. The program measures the current tempurature and how much life is left on your hard disks. There are no tale-tell signs of a failing disk either.
I downloaded the free trial version of the System Booster that is supposed to be part of the new version of XP (I think?).Does anybody know about this? Is it legitimate? It seemed to be. I have noticed a small increase in overall speed of loading programs and apps, but it could be my wishful imagination.
