Downloaded Free Trial Version Of System Booster
Apr 26, 2006I downloaded the free trial version of the System Booster that is supposed to be part of the new version of XP (I think?).Does anybody know about this? Is it legitimate? It seemed to be. I have noticed a small increase in overall speed of loading programs and apps, but it could be my wishful imagination.

Nov 28, 2005I just got the trial version of XP x64. I have a 64-bit processor and TuneUp utilities recommends I upgrade to x64. I have a couple of concerns, though. First, just because I have a 64-bit processor does not necessarily mean I have 64-bit drivers and 64-bit compatible programs, does it? Second, if I install the trial version and the trial ends; what then? Will I just go back to XP Pro or will I have sold my soul and be forced to purchase the full version?

Aug 23, 2009I decided to try the Avira Personal Free Anti-Virus on my computer. Well, in the main inferface it only says that anti-virus is on, but i dont see anything about anti-spyware on. However on the website it says the free version gives anti-spyware so I am guessing in the program when it says Anti-Virus, it means anti-virus and anti-spyware right? On the website i saw it did say is gives both. Please help as if it has no anti-spyware, then i wont use it.

Aug 13, 2006I've worked for 2 days on this problem off and on and found no working solution yet. To make it short and sweet, if I right-click on any folders or on the hard drive icons in My Computer explorer.exe freezes. I have a program called HDDLife Pro (trial version) that says my hard disks are at 53% and 85%. The program measures the current tempurature and how much life is left on your hard disks. There are no tale-tell signs of a failing disk either.

When either program reads C:/windows/I386 it intermittently powers down. I think there's a corrupt file in the main body of I386, but can't isolate it. I'm not sure which type of file should be in this area.

Sep 20, 2008My PC recently got a fairly nasty virus (W32-Sinowal-based Maximus! or something along those lines) so we had to get it wiped. A few days later, my computer was all messed up again. I can only boot up in Safe Mode, my sound doesn't work, and it is running slower than normal. I need to find out if I have another virus (although the guy who fixed it downloaded Norton Anti-Virus and it seemed fine for a few days) or if maybe my computer is just dying. It's about three years old and apparently it was outdated before we even bought it. Is there any way the virus could have affected the computer's hard drive or whatever (yeah, I don't quite know what I'm talking about) or have I maybe gotten another virus?

May 16, 2005I recently was infected with a computer virus. Norton AntiVirus 2003 initially caught the virus and it supposedly deleted it, so I was not concerned with the message details. However, almost immediately after receiving the message I realized the virus was not completely removed. A DOS window popped up two or three times and then Norton shutdown. I tried opening Norton again but it would not open. I then tried uninstalling and reinstalling but it would not reinstall. I tried the Windows Update site and the page shows no conent. Any ideas on how to identify the virus so I can take steps to remove it?

Aug 28, 2006Windows Update keeps trying to update Office 2003.I have a trial version of Office 2003 that came with my computer.I do not want it at this time, but I may want it at some point in the future.I don't know if it can be hidden from the Windows update but if not, I am not sure how to fully get rid of it.
It has never been "installed."Windows update fails every time, of course, because it isn't now nor has it ever been installed.The biggest problem is that it keeps trying to apply the same updates over and over and over. It slows down the shutdown as it repeats the attempt(s) 3 times before each shutdown and also it keeps downloading the same and or other Windows Updates for Office 2003
AVG Free Version
Sep 8, 2005I am running XP SP2 with all patches installed. I was wondering if the free version of AVG antivirus will work with an OEM version of windows I am running? I thought I read it would not but I am not at all sure. I am currently running Norton but it will expire soon.
