View 6 Replies View RelatedI decided to try the Avira Personal Free Anti-Virus on my computer. Well, in the main inferface it only says that anti-virus is on, but i dont see anything about anti-spyware on. However on the website it says the free version gives anti-spyware so I am guessing in the program when it says Anti-Virus, it means anti-virus and anti-spyware right? On the website i saw it did say is gives both. Please help as if it has no anti-spyware, then i wont use it.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI currently have Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite 6 & it is due to expire in about 8 days. I was wondering what others of you used for anti-virus, anti-spyware, firewalls etc.I have heard that sometimes it's not the best idea to use a complete package, like ZA internet security suite, for the whole lot You hear a lot of conflicting info about them all, I've heard that AVG is good, Norton isn't, someone said windows defender was good.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI've got a PC with Win XP SP2. I'm currently using Etrust antivirus and Windows Defender on it. View 6 Replies View RelatedWindows xp home sp2, Intel 3.0ghz 512MB approx 15 months old.PC shuts down when running AVG anti-virus or AVG anti-spy ware. When either program reads C:/windows/I386 it intermittently powers down. I think there's a corrupt file in the main body of I386, but can't isolate it. I'm not sure which type of file should be in this area.

View 39 Replies View RelatedMy PC recently got a fairly nasty virus (W32-Sinowal-based Maximus! or something along those lines) so we had to get it wiped. A few days later, my computer was all messed up again. I can only boot up in Safe Mode, my sound doesn't work, and it is running slower than normal. I need to find out if I have another virus (although the guy who fixed it downloaded Norton Anti-Virus and it seemed fine for a few days) or if maybe my computer is just dying. It's about three years old and apparently it was outdated before we even bought it. Is there any way the virus could have affected the computer's hard drive or whatever (yeah, I don't quite know what I'm talking about) or have I maybe gotten another virus?
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy anti-virus software keeps on detecting some virus from different folders from the C:WINDOWS emp folder, yet all folders are empty. It detects trojans from those empty folders . All folders from the temp folder are empty. Can't I just delete it all?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently was infected with a computer virus. Norton AntiVirus 2003 initially caught the virus and it supposedly deleted it, so I was not concerned with the message details. However, almost immediately after receiving the message I realized the virus was not completely removed. A DOS window popped up two or three times and then Norton shutdown. I tried opening Norton again but it would not open. I then tried uninstalling and reinstalling but it would not reinstall. I tried the Windows Update site and the page shows no conent. Any ideas on how to identify the virus so I can take steps to remove it?

I have this older notebook computer I got for free, its a Duron 900mhz 256megs 20gig system, its pretty old and slow. But since its all I have right now I will have to live with it. I just did a fresh XP pro install on it and I am trying to descide which Virus software I should use that uses very little of my limited resources. I have used Norton before and whoile it works fine on newer faster computers it seems to really slow down older slower machines so I would like to stay away from Norton on this notebook. So anyways, my real question is, do I really even need virus software?
I dont ever download from unknown sittes and only open emails from known senders. I surf the net with Foxfire so spyware isnt that bnig a problem as it is with IE. Also I dont have anything important on this computer that I would worry about losing to a virus infection.I have a Linksys router that should have a built in hard firewall, correct? SO can I get away without the antivirus? I run Spybot and CCleaner to keep my computer free from spyware and junk. Do I need any other programs to keep things running smoothly? DO I even need Spybot if im using Firefox? And If I do need to run a Virus program, which will slow down the computer the least which uses the least of my limited resources? I liked Fsecures EZvirus it seemed to slow things down far less than Nortons.
I currently use Norton Corporate edition anti-virus. It works pretty well but takes up a lot of resources. I don't mind as much on my home PC but it runs TOO many tasks that I want running on my laptop. What is a good alternative to Norton that doesn't HOG too many tasks but still gets the job done?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI believe that One of the computers which I own has a virus that prevents me from updating AVG. Recently the auto update has not been working, however today when I try to download it manually it does not find the page, I have tried several times but it hasn't worked.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have read many of the "which AV?" threads and I see that Avast, AVG and Panda are all quite popular here.I do not, however, see much discussion of Trend Micro's PC-cillin, BitDefender or Kaspersky. Are those not popular for some reason, or are the others favored only because they are free?I really don't mind a reasonable annual subscription, but I do want a light footprint and effective security.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using McAfee Anti-Virus and just got a renewal notice for $69.98 for two years.
My question is should I renew - or is there someother anti-virus program that is better? What about AVG which is free - is that one reliable?
Any other programs that I should check into?
Could someone tell me which anti-virus program works the best?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI currently have Norton System Works for an AV program. It expires next month so I was wondering if I should switch to a better program if there is one thats recommended? I've had the program since 2002 and update it every year so "it's up to date"
View 16 Replies View RelatedI have two antivirus programs installed on my computer.AVG Free and Avast free. They both seem to function, but is it a bad idea to have more than one installed?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI currently have Norton Antivirus, but was considering uninstalling it so that less resources are consumed and to free up HD space. It has not really helped me in any way, the last time i got a virus was when i had activeX enabled, which i don't anymore since i use firefox. I also don't stupidly click on .exe files and the sort, so i couldn't get a virus like that.
So do you guys think it is necessary to have an antivirus program? should i keep Norton or can i ditch it?
