Startup Fails And Ends In BSOD
Jul 14, 2008
XP fails to start in any mode. XP has been reloaded from an image with no change in situation. (I was reimaging the machines anyway.) I have not yet had a successful boot since reimaging, and hence XP (mini)setup has not completed (the image was prepared using sysprep to allow it to be rolled out to multiple machines. These machines are connected to an 2003 AD Domain). Currently I'm running memtest86+ from Knoppix. Knoppix booted with only one error about not passing in proper display information. (Perhaps the graphics card is going?). The last file loaded in a safe mode bootup is mup.sys, which leads me further to believe that it's a hardware problem (and that's backed up by Google).
I've opened it up, cleaned it out with a little (make that a lot) of compressed air. Boy, was it dusty. I forgot to mention, this computer is at a high school, if you want an idea of what the users are like . It's a magnet/gifted/selective enrollment (for you Chicago people) high school though. Any suggestions on things to try? I didn't see anything obviously wrong on the motherboard: that is, no exploded capicitors, disconnected cables, missing RAM, etc. I'm running memtest now, however we won't know the results of that until tomorrow. I'm going to swap out the HD with a different one and we'll see if that's any better.

I'm running XP pro with SP2.It's a fairly new computer which hadn't been connected to the internet since yesterday. So once it was on the internet i just let it freely download updates from Windows Update. When I tried to open something on my desktop i got a Blue Screen of Death. After restarting i sent the error report and it actually came up with a solution (shocker) that it was my firewall program, Outpost Firewall. After installing the update that it told me to everything went downhill from there. Everytime I restart the computer and log on i get the error report and when i click anything, explorer ends and doesnt restart (unless i use task manager to restart it). The only way around this is for me to just move the error report box out of the way, but now i cant use windows explorer at all.
Anytime i try to open, say, My Documents from the start menu, the taskbar will freeze for a few minutes. Anytime i try to use the Open function from any other program, that program will just shutdown with no warning whatsoever. I've only been able to open this internet explorer window because i just happen to know what the string is to open it in task manager.Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated. I can paste the error report if you wish. Just ask for it, but i can tell you that there are 60 Module errors by looking at it.When i click the start menu and right click anything, the Open and Explore options all appear in lower case, which isn't mean to happen if i remember correctly

Somehow or other I've deleted two DLLs that prevent Windows XP from booting up.These are ODBC32.DLL and MSGINA.DLL - I get two seperate error messages saying they are missing and then the PC tries to reboot again.
I have tried booting in safe mode and get the same problem.I have a recovery CD but wish to avoid reinstalling windows and all that entails. I have found reference and source elsewhere to booting from startup floppy discs but have no access to a PC with a disc drive to create them.Is it possible to create a boot CD for windows XP or can anyone suggest another solution?

This doesn't appear to cause any real problems, other than about the same time, I tried to upgrade Itunes and got an error message that says "error writing to file C:program filesitunesitunes.resourcesko.lproj ingtone.nibobjects.xib. Verify that you have access to that directory".I don't know if the two are related. None of the fixes I have found elsewhere have solved my problem.

So here's the deal: I try booting into windows one day, and I can't even get as far as the boot screen. Safe mode only results in a hard reboot, so I decided to run a repair install of windows XP. After doing this, several things started going wrong:
- At startup I receive a message "generic host service for win32 needs to close"
- Explorer's theme reverts to windows classic after a few minutes
- several key services are not running at startup, i.e windows audio, DCHP client
- at one point my audio randomly cut out and my screen began to fade to white, but the computer's been fine since, I just want some input before I decide to try running another repair install to see if there's any other way to remedy this situation.

I think I have a driver causing trouble on startup. Every 4th or 5th time I boot, I bet a BSOD and the machine restarts. Sometimes it does it even after PC has been on for a while. I can not find anything in common with any of these crashes and have NOT installed any new drivers or hardware. What would be the best way to determine what's causing the trouble?

How would I go about restoring windows when all five startup options go to bsod? I get different stop messages when I choose different options. I thought about an OS re-install but can't find my disk, all I can find is the disk for my fiancee's Laptop. Hers was XP pro and mine was Xp home so I didn't think it would work, and besides I can't find any product codes or serial numbers for either. Am I going to have to format and buy a new OS or what?

So, my dad's small business server (Windows 2003 Server for Small Businesses, HP Proliant Systems) crashes on startup, without exception, starting yesterday. Every single time I boot up Windows, it dies before getting to the login screen. Please help, as my huge important thesis papers are on there, due next week, and I'm basically ****ed if I can't recover them. Being the idiot I am, I didn't back them up, so that's about 3 months of work right there. If you guys can help me fix this, you are my saviors.

Whenever I accidentally leave my Smartdisk FireLite portable hard drive in on shutdown or boot up, before XP displays the Welcome menu I get a BSOD saying BAD_POOL_ERROR shows up. I usually remember to take it out before I shut down and plug it in after I log in, but when I don't it's really annoying having to reboot right after I had just booted.

My intellimouse works correctly for awhile then double click fails. When this occurs the mouse control panel fails to open. Shutting down and restart corrects the problem-but only for awhile and then the same thing happens over again. I reloaded software to no avail. any help?

Hello, i have had this problem in the past where I would get the bsod on startup. As soon as my desktop loaded in fact. It had to do with a display driver I had installed.Since then I have a new machine that running without a hitch for a while now,and this time I do not have those display drivers installed . The problem started happening after I did a scan with malware bytes and super anti-spyware and after I cleaned what it found I got the BSOD on reboot.

I'm getting the BSOD when I'm booting up my PC, and there are lines and such on the screen. It's the following error: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA 0x000000050 (0xF8A33DBC, 0x00000000, 0x8052B8F8,0x0000000000)
I have a Dell laptop, Inspiron E1705. I'm using Windows XP, Service pack 3. When I run it in safe mode the following is across the top of the screen:
Windows XP (R) (build 2600.xpsp_sp3_gdr.090804-1435: Service Pack 3)
It BSOD'd the other night after I was browsing the internet. My computer was acting really sluggish, and I restarted it. Then I got the BSOD. I left it for the morning when I re-started it, and it started fine, for a few minutes, but after a minute or so I got the same BSOD. This happened several months ago and I fixed it by opening up my PC and re-setting the video card. I did it again and this time it didn't help any...........

i have a HP Pavilion laptop [dv5117ci] with factory load XP Pro SP2and factory restore discs. the system became corrupted by a failed Win update.
it had multiple files showing bad, so rather than chase them one at a time for an unknowable number of days, I decided to create a new directory and install fresh copy of WinXP Pro
That looked like it was going to work but after being up on the initial boot, wobbly, for about 45 minutes, something caused a freeze, and I was toasted after that. Same routine again: bootup, get error "Windows failed to start because the following file is missing or corrupt"

Put the machine in standby. Came back to it, hit the power button and it wouldn't wake up completely, it stopped at the background, would load icons or respond to any keys or buttons. Pressed and held power until it shut down. When it tries to startup, it gets to the part where its a black screen and says Windows loading, with the scrolling load bar. After that I get the blue screen with the message below.Same result when trying to load using safe mode except the BSOD flashes quicker and is gone.Is there any way to get beyond this point, or is a repair from the Windows CD the only or best solution? I have backups of my most important data with Carbonite, so I'm not too afraid of losing data, but re-loading everything I have installed would be a major kick in the bits.

I have a Dell Dimension 4550 desktop running Windows XP, SP3. I have 2 problems. BSOD on waking from Standby mode about 80% of the time - must reboot. Error message is: Kernel_Stack_Inpage_Error. Codes are: Stop: 0x00000077, (0xc000000E, 0xc000000E, 0x00000000, 0x05DB7000). Beginning dump of physical memory. This has been going on for a couple of months. When it first happened I could think of no new software that I had added recently. I'm also getting a black screen on startup about 70% of the time. Messages: Primary hard disk drive 0 not found. Strike F1 key to continue, F2 to run Setup Utility. When I hit F1 key, the error message just repeats endlessly, have to reboot to get out.

I just joined here and Im having a really abd problem with my computer. The specs that i know for sure) are:I booted my comp a few dyas ago and out of nowhere I get a BSOD before that screen with Windows XP comes up. I say to myself "ok, maybe its just one time" and reboot. I get it yet again and reboot. I finally get to the windows log in screen and I get ANOTHER BSOD after it finished loading. Restarted again, worked fine. I analyze my minidumps and it said the most probably cause of these crashes was hardware. At this point I recall a computer technician saying the capacitators on my mobo were bursting, but this was a good 8 months ago, so Im not sure if its FINALLY giving out or if my RAM thats failing.

Recently , even after a morning start up, IE7 fails to view and an error box pops ups. The one that asks you if you want to send an error report. If I restart again it's 50/50 to get to see IE7 working. Not sure if this is related, but in the evnet viewer I've noticed event ID's 1000 & 1001 are listed in the same times that this happens

I had no idea where to put this thread, but since I am running XP Home SP2 I put it here. EVERY picture I save in "My Pictures" ends up in the list of available wallpapers in the display properties. My other computer did not do this, I had to manual choose a particular pic from my folders and then I could use it as a wallpaper. The pictures were not just routed there by default like it seems to be doing now. My big issue is the list is now ridiculously long & I don't know how to stop them from going there & undo the ones that are already on the list.

I just got the trial version of XP x64. I have a 64-bit processor and TuneUp utilities recommends I upgrade to x64. I have a couple of concerns, though. First, just because I have a 64-bit processor does not necessarily mean I have 64-bit drivers and 64-bit compatible programs, does it? Second, if I install the trial version and the trial ends; what then? Will I just go back to XP Pro or will I have sold my soul and be forced to purchase the full version?

I'm running Windows XP Pro SP2 and wanted to upgrade to the SP3 that's out. It showed up in Auto Updates, and I ran the install, but it failed. The system still runs ok, but I can't figure out how to get past the error. It tries to install the update KB946648, but fails with an access denied error. The SP3 install then back everything out and quits. How do I get past this error? I checked my update history, and it says that update KB946648 is already installed. Additional info: Tried running the update without the ZoneAlarm Fire wall off and Windows firewall on I also have Norton's AV. Any possibility of a conflict with one of these

I was given an old Gateway laptop computer with a 400 MHz Pentium processor and 256 kb of RAM, running Windows 98SE. I decided to upgrade it to Windows XP Home. The upgrade starts out fine, it checks the system, gives no error messages, and then begins to copy files. The hard drive and CD indicator lights flicker to indicate files are being copied, and there's the dotted scroll bar that scrolls from left to right on the screen to show you that there's activity going on. the hard drive and CD indicator lights stop flickering, it seems that files are no longer being copied from the CD to the hard drive. However, the dotted scroll bar on the screen keeps on scrolling from left to right. I have left it doing this for several hours; that scroll bar keeps on scrolling, but the installation process stops. The system doesn't hang, the file copying just stops. Win XP is never installed, and after reboot it reverts back to Win 98SE.
Instead of an upgrade, I tried wiping the hard drive, reformatting, and doing a clean install of XP, but it doesn't help. It gets to the same point in the setup, and just stops copying files. No error messages or any indication that anything is wrong. I have tried installing Win XP on at least 10 different occasions, but no success.

I'm running windows XP a dell desktop that's a few years old. I was away from home for six months, and before i left i powered my computer down--and now that i'm home, it fails to boot. When i power it on, a few seconds after it will begin to continually beep. they're long, but spaced apart.. after a while, it will just hold the beep as a solid tone. It will normally get loading screen of windows XP (the black one that has the bar and shows the windows logo), and that's when the screen will just go blank and it holds the beep.
I don't get any errors or messages during the startup, and if i enter the bios settings as it's beginning to boot, it will not begin to beep or turn off.

I am a new user to this site and I am moderately computer literate and have a basic knowledge of my system.
It's a Gateway PC running on Windows XP with a Pentium 4 Processor, as for the base specs I'm not quite sure, but I know they are lower than my laptops specs are.Just today when I got home from work my parents had started to worry about the PC, they would start it up and then wait for it to boot as usual, but this time it started to turn on and wouldn't do anything from there, it would just sit at the loading screen and not even get to the loading bar or welcome screen it's self.So I tried a couple of reboots to see if that would help and it did not, so I picked up my OS install disc to force a reboot or to repair the system, I can restart it but it does the same thing even with the OS disc inside the tower, it doesn't even read it at all.I'm not too sure what else to do at this point, if there are any other suggestions please provide them, if you have further questions to ask me, I'll try and answer them to the best of my ability.

Hello, I have a very screwed up Win XP computer and am trying to reinstall XP from the CD. I changed the boot order to boot from CD and everything goes fine, files load etc. It asks a few questions during the loading which I answer and all goes fine. Then after it loads the files it finally asks 'are you sure you want to proceed' but at that point everything USB fails including the keyboard, so I can't tell it Yes to proceed. There is no other port to plug in an input device other than the 6 usb ports. Is there a way to get around this?
