I will then use this value later in the program. e.g. for /f "delims=" %a in ('dir /a-D /B /s "C:codedepotinstallData File DistribProductName" |find /c /v ""') do Set tempVar=%a I am having trouble with the space in the path. I tried using escape with slash '' but didn't help. Can anyone correct my above command and get the count in the tempVar?

1.I cannot open the "Properties " Dialog box in the "Add/Remove Programs" in the Control Panel. In Control Panel, I right-click "Add/Remove Programs" to open the "Properties" Dialog box. But, when I right-click, all that appears is "Open" and "Create Shortcut." The same goes for all the programs in the Control Panel, except a handful may display a 3rd option..."Explore." However, I can click to "Open" any of the programs in the Control Panel. My problem in this case is the "Properties "dialog box is not available. There must be a way to restore this command option.
2. It might be related in some way to Problem # 1. I cannot open "Add/Remove Windows Components" in "Add Remove/Programs." In Control Panel, I click to open "Add/Remove Programs, and click on "Add/Remove Windows Components." It will not open. Instead, this message box appears: "Setup was unable to open information file games.inf. Contact your System Administrator. The specific error code is 0x2 at line 0." I click "OK" and the next message box reads: "The application could not be initialized."
Some programs (currently hl.exe is doing it :/) are just not closing right. I end them with task manager and they dissappear from everywhere but Task manager, where they stay no matter how many times i click end process. I tried through command prompt, it said it terminated the process, but it just stays in the task manager process list. I also tried through EndItAll, which told me it didn't have permission to kill the program.

View 7 Replies View Relatedevery 3-5 minutes or so, the main window that i'm working in (doesn't matter which program im running, but usually firefox/msn messenger, etc..) stops being the "top" window, and instead goes to the background - as if i opened another internet explorer window on top of it.this "glitch" is always followed by something even more strange - the sound gets cut off, and if i check the meters in volume control i always find the "wave" meter to be on minimum, and i have to put it back in the middle.

Now I need to print with color and I can't find out how to get it turned back on. Where I changed it was before the printers so the each printer's properties won't let me change it. I should have wrote it down and soon will if I get a resolution here. The ink bars on the printing status blocks only show black ink so I know the command is set before them. Any help someone may give would be greatly appreciated.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI reinstalled my OS and all my software, shortly thereafter I noticed I had an issue where any sound that was coming through my headphones was being retransmitted through the mic, with further testing I found that this was not actually the case but rather any sound that would be output is being retransmitted as audio in, even if I had no speakers, headphones or mics connected. I have looked at and experimented with everything I could in every sound settings.
I have tried updated drivers, the only way for me to stop the issue from occurring is to mute the mic in the recording control, but that stops me from using the mic altogether. I need to be able to use my mic without recording anything that I am hearing as well.
Error message : stop 0xC2 or stop 0x000000C2 ,Error message says pool header has been corrupted.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am using a POWER USER account, Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 /w all the latest patches availible via microsoft update. I was trying to create a .zip file of a folder within the primary directroy of a backup hard drive I use.
For Example:
D:stuff - I wanted to make a zipfile of the folder "stuff."
Then I get the following error "Cannot Create Output File."
However, if I move the folder to the destop or a subdirectory i.e. stuff/more stuff, then the .zip file is created with no problems.
Also, because user accounts [at least in my experience] have a tendency to decay, I created a freash power user account and the same problem persist.
Is this a standard security feature for power user accounts? Is there anyway I can "disable" it if it is?
Major virus infection on computer resulted in fdisk and reformat. I used Win 98SE to fdisk and reformat, as I couldn't for the life of me find a format on the Dell Operating reinstallation CD. (could be first mistake)
Used Win 98 SE startup diskette to start system w/CD rom support.
Navigated to D: Drive which containe the XP OS reinstallation. Navigated to I386 folder and typed WINNT to begin reinstalling files.
Start WIn XP setup and began copying files to HD.
Screen shows: The MS-DOS based portion of setup is complete. Setup will now restart you computer. After your computer restarts, WIN XP Setup will continue. Remove floppy, etc.
Computer restarts - did inspection of system, shows Win XP Setup, loading files (drivers, controllers, etc.)
Starting windows - Welcom to Setup:
1. Setup - press enter
2. Repair (using Repair Console)
3. Quite - F3
Pressed enter
Next message:
Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer. Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer. This may involve running a mfg supplied diagnostics or setup program.
Setup cannot continue Press F3
System then attempts reboot, attempts installation again by booting from HD. Then error message:

At this point I must shut off the PC.

I have looked on MS site for the error code and think I understand that the problem is either a hd controller device driver is not installing from the Dell Reinstallation CD and therefore stops the installation of the software. How I can possibly extract and install the driver setup may be looking for.

View 7 Replies View Relatedwhen closing my computer down it hangs on saving your settings. You can hear the 'tower' closing down, but the screen doesn't disappear and the pc won't close down. I have to do it at the tower. I have run spywareblaster, avgspyware, avgantivirus, housecall x2 and spybot. Nothing shows up except the odd tracking cookie, which I delete, but the problem still continues. Would I have a virus or anything else that these can't find. Is there anything else I can try.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy father gets all the weirdest and most interesting problems with his computer... and then, of course, he turns to me for help, and usually it's something I've never heard of before, and probably caused by some random software gizmo he downloaded, that I just tell him to format and reinstall.
This time, though, it's on a fairly fresh (about a month and a half old) reinstall, and he says he hasn't installed any new software lately. So I thought I'd ask for a bit of help before telling him to reformat.
when he closes a program, about half the time it hangs for 10-30 seconds before closing. The program window disappears, but is still in the taskbar, and nothing at all can be done (no buttons will click, no programs will open, no keys will press) until it disappears. Afterward, if, for instance, you've clicked every icon on the desktop in frustration, most of what you tried to do during this brief hang will all happen at once. The Task Manager's performance tab doesn't show any unusual activity during the hang. And even the Task Manager will cause this hang when closed.
In windows 98se I could close running programs before installing a new program, by hitting ctrl/alt/del, then closing those running one at a time. How do I do this now that I am running win XP pro? I'm kind of afraid to shut down anything before installing a new program.
