Explorer.exe Won't Load: Comes Up With Wallpaper & Error?
May 18, 2005
Ok, so, I wake up one day, turn my computer on, log on to my profile, takes a little longer than usual, but, nothing suss. Comes up with my wallpaper and then gives me an error. Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If you were in the middle of something it might be lost. Tell MS about this problem. <Send error report> <don't send error report>
I've tried to run system restore, but it won't let me go back a month on the calendar or change system restore settings so I can't restore any point that isn't the restore point made today, after the errors started happening. Also, every time I run an app, it says "ctf loader can't run" and comes up with the error report screen, I click don't send, it goes away and the app works fine. So I ran adaware, deleted everything it found, ran HJT
Everytime I go to shut down my computer, I get an explorer.exe error msg, and am forced to end now, and then the computer will shut down. This is annoying, as it takes a long time to turn off. Also everytime I turn my pc on, the wallpaper will not display, and I am left with just a defualt blank colour and have to apply the wallpaper manually.
I was running BitDefender, and the day before, it had already deleted explorer.exe. But my computer was still working. I just had to use Task Manager to open programs. Today, whole running BitDefender, I was looking on the internet for a way to download another explorer.exe, and I found a zip file and downloaded it. BUT I can't unzip it without explorer.exe. And while scanning,BitDefender must have deleted my Task Manager. Now, when I start my computer,I have nothing ! No taskbar, start menu, icons, anything! Just wallpaper. And when I control-alt-delete, I get the menu, but when I choose Task Manager, nothing happens
How can I remove the "Internet Explorer Wallpaper" listed in the Background window under the Desktop tab? I wish to delete it but failed to find this wallpaper in the C:Windowswebwallpaper and C:Windows directories.
My computer randomly started displaying this error upon start up a week ago and I have no clue what is causing it. I googled it and seen that it could be caused by a linksys wireless router, one was installed on the system before, but has been uninstalled for quite some time now. Can anyone help me correct this or at least help me figure out what is causing it?
The last thing I want ANYONE to see is My Pictures. Why is this damn thing offering THAT place as first choice for dektop wallpapers? I pointed it (browsed to) Windows/Web/Wallpapers but it STILL insists on my pictures included there! And there is no obvious, clear cut way to change it, I have to google all over the place to find the damn answer! Pure wasted time. to remove that place and prevent it from ever showing up as a first choice for wallpapers?
I am wondering if it is possible to find the location of where your wallpaper pic is temporarily stored while it is your current wallpaper. The reason I ask is because I thought I saved the pic before I made it my wallpaper, but I cannot locate the file. Also, is there a way to find out the name of the file? Then I could do a search, but as it is, Desktop properties just labels it "Internet explorer wallpaper
I have a 27" Dell Monitor with a Radeon X850XT card. Never had a problem with it and this new problem has just come out of no where. All background wallpapers leave a big gap down the left hand side of my screen. The pic's are big enought o fit the screen resolution and if I choose a smaller pic and 'center' it in display properties it does not center..I have just updated drivers and no change.Have WINXP ser pack 2
Long story short, it's been a week since i've seen my desktop. No taskbar, no start menu, just my wallpaper. I have been able to use my computer through the Task Manager but that's about it. In searching for answers through the past week, it has been brought to my attention that the most likeliest of problems pertaining to this would be that my Explorer.exe is not active when I restart my computer. I have ran numerous Malware programs and have removed quite alot, but this problem still persists. I have searched through this forum and have seen one case to where this particular problem was solved but it needs special attention.
Windows XP home edition ran ad aware SE personal, quarrantined about 130 "critical objects" rebooted and now just the desktop screen shot will load after booting. task manager says that explorer is running and yet there are *no applications* running. how do I get explorer *application* running again?
I think these two are related, but I cant seem to find anything that would explain why either is occuring. When trying to load Photoshop, Dreamweaver MX, or any other heavy duty program (3D Studio Max etc), I get the error "Explorer has caused and error and needs to close". Also, when trying to run some problems I get an error stating that I am running a 16-bit MSDOS sub-system and references the files command.com and autoexec.nt. Last I checked the MSDOS subsystem quit with Win2K. I've run ad-aware, spybot, and AVG antivirus trying to find something that way that may have effected the system, but I didnt find anything.
I leave my computer on 24/7 but lately every morning when i wake up I'd come downstairs to error messages related to virtual ram running low (but a meter would read my actually ram used at 1-4%) Programs would crash due to not having enough memory and nothing would be running when i woke up. The weird thing was, there weren't any new programs that were running, it was all the same things that worked fine before. It started suddenly, and after updating a program called Azureus it seemed to worsen, but it was always the first to close. I noticed that Norton 2003 auto protect was disabled and it wouldn't enable so i upgraded to 2005 and updated it. It then found 30 some viruses, all being Trojan related. I think all of the files were related to TASKMNGU.exe and a file called something like MSMSGI.exe. Norton couldn't clean them so i rebooted in safe mode and scanned, when it found all of them it quarantined a few, deleted about 20 and 4 were left unable to do anything with. i then rebooted into normal windows, and was going to see what was left, and how to handle them, only when i clicked on my user, entered my password, and waited for my desktop to load, it never did. It froze with my background image there, all my processes seemed to start up except explorer (windows explorer, not IE, i use Firefox anyway). I tried rebooting in safe mode and had the same problem. I tried going to new, and running explorer.exe from task manager but it says i cannot find the file. I hit browse, found it and selected it but again it said it couldn't find it. I then tried repairing the version of XP with the install disk from Dell but it just takes me a command prompt, which im not sure what to do with. does anyone have any ideas how to get explorer to load?
windows loads and everything but when its done the only thing i get is the wallpaper, no START button no programs, seconds later i get a message that says explorer.exe couldnt start iertutil.dll was not found ,, is there anyway i can fix this i dont have the manufacturers cd windows came pre-installed on my laptop.
It all started when none of my folders would open or "mycomputer" or any "explorer.exe" related things. So I restarted the computer, and after restart the logon screen come on. I tryed to log in but all I got was the "Loadding your personal settings".Then nothing. So Ctrl-Alt-Del the consol comes up. I tried to run explorer.exe manuly but it just blinks on the screen and then disappear. It is almost like something is killing or not letting explorer.exe stay loaded.
Xp pro, wireless broadband, still works.just wanting to share folders between 2 wireless pc's.After log in,wallpaper appears and that's it! i can run programs via task manager, but trying explorer.exe brings the desktop then disappears.
Whenever i launch internet explorer it takes longer than usual to load. And when i go to type a web address it just freezes and never loads a new webpage. I don;t know what is going on. This has started to happen on friday. I;ve ran the following and they found some stuff and have deleted it but i still have the same problem. I;ve even tried system restore and it still persist. I noticed that when i try to delete my history i get an error about not being able to open shell32.dll or something and that some about a inetcpl.cpl is having a problem.
Whilst attempting to remove a spyware/virus (the entire malwares/virus no longer seemed to be there but the malicious processes acpiz.dll and WINotify.dll would lurk in various system processes, I tried some program which was supposed to delete that malware but it just seemed to corrupt everything worse) I seem to have corrupted whatever program Windows uses to display that start bar. Windows loads 'normally' till it gets to the point when startbar should appear where it does nothing. alt-tab displays nothing either. Only way I can run anything is by booting in 'Safe Mode with Command Prompt'. From cmd.exe auto-starting I can start explorer.exe and then other programs. However since it's in Safe Mode I can't start internet which is what I really want to actually be able to research my problems.
I've got a problem with Internet Explorer (thought this question belongs to this forum). Well, everytime I exit Internet Explorer, then open it back again - I see that all my cookies were deleted. Why does that happen? Is it some wrong configuration in IE? If so, how and where can I change it?
When I start IE6 it just hangs on a white screen. I have SP2 and I've removed and reinstalled IE6 a couple of times but it doesn't help. When I launch IE it just hangs attempting to load my homepage (google) but I can press stop and access Options etc.. Firefox and all my other programs that access the internet are working fine but I need IE working too.I can't even access my router control panel via IE which makes me think this is a IE networking configuration problem. I've tried flushing dns but that didn't help.
I have put my Internet Explorer favorites on the start menu. When I click start, then favorites, and then click on a link, sometimes it will dial up and go to that particular web page as it should, it will only partially load the Internet Explorer page. It doesn't dial up and just locks at that point. When that happens I have to dial up my ISP directly, then open Internet Explorer, go to my favorites menu from there and then to the link I want
I badly need your support. Day before yesterday (01-Aug-06) night I upgraded the yahoo toolbar and used their norton anti spy to scan. Then I shut down the system and started to work the next day. Every thing is perfectly ok except for one thing. In Windows Explorer, on any folder or drive if I double click or open I get a crash. If I do explore then there is no problem.
First my computer was cutting off in the middle of any program. I decided to delete everything on the drive and reformat it and reload windows xp. While trying to load windows xp it would load the set up but when going to load files it locked up everytime. I tried also loading windows 98, 95 and they too locked up. At one point it said I had a virus in my boot sector and at another time it said I had a virus in my RAM. I got a program called PC Beginner to help partition my drive and redo the MBR. I can partition the drive and format it but windows still doesn't load. Now I wonder if there is a problem with the mother board and I have a dual bios board, I was wonder if there is a program loaded in the dual bios that may somehow causing my problem. If so what can be done to clear the problem? How can I get windows reloaded?
I have installed a new h/d which my bios has reconized and went to install a new''? windows xp pro. 2 build 2000. xp2. cd loads and installs drivers, but stops and gives stop win 32 /dll. now i have no way of installing xp. the xp disc is a genuine one from m/soft .i have checked bios (asus motherboard) seems ok.Ihave an old ibm computer which I am now using to connect to the internet. to contact yourselves.
I'm not sure if this counts as a hardware or software problem, sorry if I've posted it in the wrong forum.
My parents have an acer laptop, it is about 3 years old, it has a centrino 1.6, 256mb ram, 40GB HD, CDRW and windows XP.
it was working perfectly, and when last used it shut down normally. However on trying to boot it up today it gets to a screen that says load error! "Press any key to reboot"however when pressing a key it just displays the load error message again and seems stuck in a loop.
This happens only a couple of seconds into the boot sequence, the screen immediately before the error screen gives the following information:
Base Memory xxxxx Extended memory xxxxx Total memory xxxxxx
Auto detecting IDE device Primary master xxxxxx Secondary master
Insyde ACPI bios initialised
At the bottom of the screen it says Press F2 to enter system configuration
If I press F2 at that point I get into the BIOS.
I did not know what to do, I wondered whether Windows had been corrupted so decided to wipe the hard drive and reinstall windows using the recovery CDs supplied with Acer.
After going into the BIOS to change to boot device to the CD drive, the clean reinstall seemed to go well, everything progressed, as normal and every thing seemed to being reinstalled. I was optimistic that all would be well.
However, on rebooting after the reinstall I got the same error message as I had done before. (I had changed the boot device to drive C)
I tried doing a full reinstall again, though of coarse it did not help, and right now I dont have a clue how to progess in trying to solve the problem.
I get a serious error report everytime I load up XP. Caused by an error when I close down. Is there any way I can find out which programme is causing the error so I can delete it / reinstall? I suspect an update to Norton Antivirus or Internet Security was the culprit.
