Everytime I go to shut down my computer, I get an explorer.exe error msg, and am forced to end now, and then the computer will shut down. This is annoying, as it takes a long time to turn off. Also everytime I turn my pc on, the wallpaper will not display, and I am left with just a defualt blank colour and have to apply the wallpaper manually.

I've tried to run system restore, but it won't let me go back a month on the calendar or change system restore settings so I can't restore any point that isn't the restore point made today, after the errors started happening. Also, every time I run an app, it says "ctf loader can't run" and comes up with the error report screen, I click don't send, it goes away and the app works fine. So I ran adaware, deleted everything it found, ran HJT
I was running BitDefender, and the day before, it had already deleted explorer.exe. But my computer was still working. I just had to use Task Manager to open programs. Today, whole running BitDefender, I was looking on the internet for a way to download another explorer.exe, and I found a zip file and downloaded it. BUT I can't unzip it without explorer.exe. And while scanning,BitDefender must have deleted my Task Manager. Now, when I start my computer,I have nothing ! No taskbar, start menu, icons, anything! Just wallpaper. And when I control-alt-delete, I get the menu, but when I choose Task Manager, nothing happens

Still without opening the file that I was trying to open. I have had several viruses, trojans especially, I may still have some. I pointed it (browsed to) Windows/Web/Wallpapers but it STILL insists on my pictures included there! And there is no obvious, clear cut way to change it, I have to google all over the place to find the damn answer! Pure wasted time. to remove that place and prevent it from ever showing up as a first choice for wallpapers?
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy computer has recently been freezing quite a bit. I have re-installed the op sys win2k prof. and it still does this. I have learned to live with the freezing not a big deal i just re-start often. Anyway today it really started acting up. I get to the login screen type in my password and it loads the desktop but before i can click on anything it gives me an error message saying that explorer has caused an error and will be closed and must be re-started, then it says generating error log. At this point i click ok and there is nothing on the desktop and there is no start bar. The only button combo that works is ctrl alt del. I have tried to boot into safe mode and it does the same thing. Today i had just finished installing new updates from microsoft and it froze right after doing this so i just had to do a hard re-start could this have screwed up the op sys??

It usually hasn't been a massive problem except I've just bought an ipod, and the certificate errors won't let me download itunes! So I really need to disable the certificate errors. Following instructions, I've got as far as disabling it, but it says that I need to restart internet explorer for it to take into effect. How do I restart internet explorer? When I press Ctrl-Alt-Delete I am given a pop-up that says Task Manager has been disabled by the administrator. At any given time, when I am on the internet. I get a pop-up that says Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and must close. I usually click Don't Send and it closes out my Internet Explorer.

There are system boxes coming up with registry and dll errors and the whole system seems SLOW.
The family computer is playing up and to the best of my knowledge the computer in question just simply suddenly stopped working as it should. I am unable to get the 'default' welcome screen upon start up and am getting the logon box where you type in a username and passworld. I know how to get rid of this, user accounts>enable welcome screen - but it will not solve the problem.This is just the start of the problems. I am running XP SP2. Before this happened i did find some malicious software on my pc that random installed itself from a website. I think this could have lead to it. I've tried many removal tools, but none seems to be helping with this last problem that is anoing me.I can't change my wallpaper. What actually happens is that when I try to scroll down the "Background" scrollbox at the "Display Properties". "Desktop" window.I believe it has something to do with policies, but windows xp Home Edition is very limited in what comes to policies and it has no editor. By regedit I couldn't find any policy key that would actually make me believe it was it. I already tried to google this issue, but I can't find anything concrete.The closest clue I have is that this was caused by a spyware installed to advertise a spyware software, which installed itself and changed my desktop wallpaper to a black image that said that I was infected with malware and I needed a spyware software to resolve the problem. The image also said something claiming it was from Microsoft and they suggested a product.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a 2GB RAM + 2.5 GHz + nVidia Pro motherboard + Windows XP PC.
Everytime i start my PC, after loggin in, it just displays the wallpaper. NOTHING ELSE! No mouse right clicks, no windows button works! Cannot work on it AT ALL!
It seems like it has hung, but if i try a Cntrl+Alt+Del, the task mgr screen opens up and i can select a single program by "New Task" and run it! so, definitely there is a normal PC running behind that wallpaper!
Now, heres the frustrating part -
I have had this issue after formatting the PC for abt 7 times till now! the antivirus (tried all) run immediately after a format shows nothing now - and still the issue would crop up after 2-3 days again!
I am really terrified with this, seems like a major virun attack as my PC shows up behavorial changes each time coupled with the above issue!
If I set my desktop wallpaper to a .jpg file then my profile will not retain the wallpaper the next time I log in. However, if I set my wallpaper to something like, FeatherTexture.bmp, or I believed any .bmp files then my profile will retain the wallpaper. So assuming this is true,
