I keep getting an error from microsoft and soon after the error. Explorer.exe. restarts. and this happens very frequent. the error is "Microsoft Visual C++ runtime library Buffer overrun detected!
Program: C:windowsexplorer.exe A Buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's internal sate. the program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated."
When I try to open certain files in My Documents, or any file in my folders labeled for media on my second hard drive, Explorer.EXE generates problems and I get my background for a few seconds before everything is right back to normal. Still without opening the file that I was trying to open. I have had several viruses, trojans especially, I may still have some. Im still able to open or modify any of these problem files through winamp or wmp- file, play file, up one level... my computer wasn't always like this. What should I do?
View 2 Replies View Relatedi have i think it is a spyware problem, there is a file in the windows folder that needs deleating, the only problem is windows vistas explorer restarts every 10 seconds or so and i cant browse the hdd because it jus restarts itself lik u have just logged in, i have even tried this in safe mode but it stil does it. Anybody know of any problems like a certain spyware name or virus that is doin this, and any programs that would likely to get rid of it, this has happened before, and i deleted the program in the windows folder and it was fine, except i dont know the name of this file i havbe to delete this time.
View 2 Replies View RelatedRecently i have been having lots of crc errors whilst unzipping files. My initial thought was that one of my hard drives was on its way out. I had checked them all using the manufacturers diagnotic ultility (Seatools) with all testing features and each one, on all drives, returned without error. I thought my suspicions were confirmed when i turned my drive on for the BIOS not to recognise one of my SATA's (a Barracuda 7200.11). After a bit of research i found out that this was prob not the cause of my crc errors as the SD15 version of the firmware supplied with my drive had a bug and causes the drive to go into a hibernated state, a separate issue i'm trying to deal with.After removing this particular hard drive along with Vista out of my system i installed win XP onto another drive temporarily. I am having the same problems with the CRC errors on my other drives which seem to be operating normally. The kind of files i'm talking about are fairly large usually demos or trailers etc in .rar format.
As i understand it CRC errors can also come from faulty RAM. I have recently RMA'd some faulty RAM back to OCZ and the stuff in my system currently is the brand new RAM i got sent back from my RMA. I know this can be causing the CRC errors and occasional random restarts regardless of how new it is so i have checked both sticks individually using memtest86. I only had time to let them do 1 pass each but both came through error free.If any of you out there have any suggestions for what else i can do to figure out what is wrong i would very much appreciate it. Could it be a lack of wattage on the psu causing the restarts? Processor? I'm stuck,

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I try and install programs (and I've tried a few different ones to make sure it's not just the installers) my computer will either reboot or give me errors saying that the .exe for that particular program cannot be accessed.I think the whole problem is related to permissions, I've tried giving administrators full control over program files, but this doesn't seem to have helped.

I'm working on a computer for a client and have found it to be the most problem filled machine I have ever delt with. Spybot and ad-aware removed between the two of them over 1000 spyware files, I had to un install several bad programs, and stinger found 7 critical viruses. . It also will not connect to the Internet, it has been configured to the shop's network and I can ping other computers in the network no problem, I can even ping the gateway, but it cant connect to or ping any site beyond that...and finally, explorer restarts anytime you right click on a file on the desktop
I did manage to get highjackthis on to it and move the logfile to this computer on my USB drive and so here it is
I first noticed that explorer would crash a few weeks ago after I stumbled across an infected .wmf file while surfing the net. I was logged in under my limited account and my anti-virus detected the .wmf but it could not take action, I believe due to the fact I use system restore. I finally was able to delete the .wmf after which I ran several different scans and could not detect anything except Microsoft (R) HTML Application host had been altered (24,576 bytes to 24,064 bytes), so I replaced the file (note: explorer was already crashing before this point). The only time it seems to crash is once in a while when I click on My Document, Control Panel, My Pictures etc.

View 3 Replies View RelatedExplorer.exe will load when my machine starts up. About every 5-10 seconds, it will close, meaning my desktop blinks off. Another 10 seconds later (or around that) explorer.exe will start again and my desktop will come back. Eventually, it stops trying to load and the desktop stays off. I can go to task manager and run explorer.exe to repeat the process of having explorer.exe run, stop, run, etc. I don't receive any error messages when this happens. This machine has the latest Microsoft updates incl service pack 2.

I restarted the computer like I was instructed to do and it booted up fine. explorer.exe shuts down about every minute or so and restarts. There's no error message or anything, just everything on my desktop disappears then re-appears. This only started happening today. It was working fine last night before I got hit with the spyware this morning. What could possibly be causing this and how do I fix it. My computer is basically useless in this condition
View 2 Replies View RelatedSince recently, whenever I insert a DVD/CD intomy DVD drive & try to browse it (via OPEN or EXPLORE) the DVD does open & I can see the icons/folders + other details, but within seconds, I get a box saying "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem...etc" & explorer shuts down & restarts. On a new computer I installed windows XP pro, updates and installed basic software, such as Office XP, McAfee, Firefox, etc. Whenever I open My Computer or windows explorer and browse through folders, after a little while explorer crashes and then restarts. This also sometimes happens when I open the start menu. Occasionally, Dr Watson postmortem debugger is triggered and the computer freezes until I end the process from the task manager.

This is annoying, as it takes a long time to turn off. Also everytime I turn my pc on, the wallpaper will not display, and I am left with just a defualt blank colour and have to apply the wallpaper manually.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy computer has recently been freezing quite a bit. I have re-installed the op sys win2k prof. and it still does this. I have learned to live with the freezing not a big deal i just re-start often. Anyway today it really started acting up. I get to the login screen type in my password and it loads the desktop but before i can click on anything it gives me an error message saying that explorer has caused an error and will be closed and must be re-started, then it says generating error log. At this point i click ok and there is nothing on the desktop and there is no start bar. The only button combo that works is ctrl alt del. I have tried to boot into safe mode and it does the same thing. Today i had just finished installing new updates from microsoft and it froze right after doing this so i just had to do a hard re-start could this have screwed up the op sys??

It usually hasn't been a massive problem except I've just bought an ipod, and the certificate errors won't let me download itunes! So I really need to disable the certificate errors. Following instructions, I've got as far as disabling it, but it says that I need to restart internet explorer for it to take into effect. How do I restart internet explorer? When I press Ctrl-Alt-Delete I am given a pop-up that says Task Manager has been disabled by the administrator. At any given time, when I am on the internet. I get a pop-up that says Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and must close. I usually click Don't Send and it closes out my Internet Explorer.

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen I start the computer, I get a screen freeze and have to press Ctrl,Alt,Del once before any programs will startup. A lot of probs with internet connection and slowness while surfing as well as a lot of pop up ads in my face.
There are system boxes coming up with registry and dll errors and the whole system seems SLOW.
The family computer is playing up and to the best of my knowledge the computer in question just simply suddenly stopped working as it should. I am unable to get the 'default' welcome screen upon start up and am getting the logon box where you type in a username and passworld. I know how to get rid of this, user accounts>enable welcome screen - but it will not solve the problem.This is just the start of the problems. I get a whole host of errors which popup one after another.
