Clicked On Safemode Under Configuration And Computer
Aug 10, 2005
I was having disk partitians when I was trying to restart and run safe mode.Instead, I went to run, config and clicked on safemode in there under one of those INI tabs and now my PC will not boot at all. I have no Xp start up disk either. So I am unsure how to get my pc to boot at all now Can anyone suggest how to get my PC to boot backup? Anyone send me in the right directions or send me a way to get some files?
I try rebooting but it always shows up in safemode.Although it appears when rebooting to be in normal setting because I don't see safemode checked in start up.
I recently had my computer reformatted. Unfortunately, it still has some issues. The first problem that popped up was that my computer "froze" after I clicked to print a Word doc. The screen turned blue (of course, my first thought was I had the blue screen of death), and I couldn't do anything with it, other than a hard shut down. It came back up fine and worked "okay" the rest of the day, although somewhat sluggishly. The next day, I tried opening a Word doc. and the screen turned purple and again a freeze. Hard shut down again, and things worked "okay" the rest of the day.
The next day, I was opening something (can't remember now if it was a Word doc.), the screen blinked and turned the color of our home page, which is a sort of rust. I called our tech person, described the issues, and he suggested that I had a problem with Dreamweaver 8. I uninstalled it, as per his suggestions, and reinstalled it. Things seemed to be working fine, but I now get this error:
DAX Error Error in TSafeMailItem - MAPI_E_CALL_FAILED. I'm wondering if it could be an issue with Spam Fighter, which I downloaded as per the tech guy's instructions. I didn't get the error message until after reinstalling DW, then checked my email. I do NOT open spam, and the sites I usually go to are safe. I'm not saying I couldn't have gone some where that wasn't, but AVG hasn't found any issues, nor has Spybot.
Stop c0000135 {unable to locate component} This application has failed to start because winsrv was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem, But you can't get anywhere on the computer, I tried tapping F8 to get to safe mode if it would let me but it keeps saying keyboard failure. Is there something else I should tap for a DELL computer to get to safemode?
I have a game installation zip file that can't be right clicked . I want to delete it but when I right -click the HD just grinds and WinXP task manager says the program is not responding. I end up ending all running processes (zip) which crashes explorer. How can I dispose of this rascal?
The "puter" in the local senior center has xp home & has always froze when another user clicks on "change user" I just started visiting the center & would like to solve this problem for them. Any advice / help will be appreciated.
I'm using Windows XP I was looking in my Communication column, (Start, All programs, Accessories) and saw that there is a fax. I clicked on the Fax Console to see what pops up. A box come up, but on top of the heading it has not responding. Does this mean that I have to do something to it, so it will work?
Over the weekend my system has picked something up. When I try clicking internet links, items in drop down menus, etc, I have to click maybe two to three times to get the system to act on the command. I have run every virus program I have, deleted my temp files, deleted my temp internet files and ran a defrag. The problem is still on going today.
Whenever I click on anything with my mouse, most of the times it automatically gets double clicked when I actually do a single click. This doesnt happen all the times but most of the times. I even checked my system for any present Virus with updated ZA Internet Security 7, but found none.
i'll start from the beginning. Today i accidentally clicked a random add and managed to get AV security suite downloaded into my comp, Very annoying program. So it blocked me out of all my settings and did the normal thing rogue spy-wares do. So i restarted and quickly ran msconfig and went into safe mode. I don't really know much about safe mode so i opted to do a system restore. I did it for 5 days ago, the 22nd and when i restarted. I had no audio device recognized and explorer wont stop crashing. As im typing this explorer has perma crashed and im deathly afraid of what i should do. Please help :[ I really depend on this comp for a lot of stuff and would hate to have something so stupid as a spy-ware destroy it.
I'm having the same issue at my work place that ScubaGirl had posted,so far four of our users have put in calls for it.ScubaGirl's post read: Clicking mapped /network drives opens minesweeper For some reason on my XP machine, it recently started opening minesweeper when I try to click on a network or mapped drive (and won't open the mapped drive). I've tried dropping and reconnecting - and it's still doing it.
I was goin to restart my computer b/c my internet connection wasnt working well, and when i went to the start menu-restart, the shut down button said something along the lines of "updates for your pc" so instead of restarting, I clicked on that. When i did that, the pc was telling me it was updating, then it went tot the blue "windows is shutting down" screen Well, it stayed like that for about 20 minutes, so I thought it may have froze (it's done this before when i wasnt updating, just shutting down) When I went to turn it back on, i got the black screen with the white text that said "We are sorry for the inconvieniece, windows did not start successfully"
Hi! I've been working on a friend's kids pc that had 250+ viruses on it and it would only boot in safe mode. I removed the viruses, and attempted to run chkdisk/f, the system said it had to reboot to complete chkdisk, I rebooted and forgot it would only boot to safe mode and now it hangs at loading the mup.sys driver. I'm unable to get back into safemode or anything. I was able to launch the emachine recovery cd, but all I could get to run was ghost, and it advised running chkdisk cuz the drive has errors, I'm stuck, should I try and use my pc's winxp disk and try the recovery console on it? At this point we're ok with formatting and starting over anyways.
I am new to this forum, so plz bear with me. I have the same problem as a previous poster with win xp. I was attempting to repair a flooder virus in my winlogon file(I know now it was an AVG glitch) and when restarting the computer my system went into a continuous start up loop. When I attempted to repair the os by replacing the file using the XP Cd; the computer goes into safemode, I get the error "xp setup cannot run under safemode", and the system reboots (repeating the process over and over).I don't want to do a clean install of xp. I've searched the web for hours trying to get answers and nothing.
Mine is actually a spyware/virus issue but this forum seemed the more appropriate place for this particular set of problems.I'm working on a friend's computer (HP Pavilion ze5400). Windows will load normally but it is impossible to do anything useful from there for a number of reasons:RUN is not accessible. It does not appear on the start menu and pressing windows+R brings up a message that the feature has been disabled by the administrator. The control panel is not accessible for the same reason.Task manager? Nope. Disabled. RegEdit will not load even when manually found and executed through explorer...again, disabled.and of course, the username I'm using IS the administrator. Fun things, eh?Safemode starts to load then hits a BSOD that I can't read because the computer immediately reboots so the error only flashes for a fraction of a second.
my computer restarts continuously and I can't get into safe mode! I tried pressing f8 and going to safe mode or the last known good config, but the computer just restarts all over again..
My PC (Win2000) will run in safe mode, but in normal it just gives a blank screen, it plays the windows startup music but its not the same. I don't know where to start.
I reformatted my drive. I performed a clean install of windows xp. My drive has already undergone a FIXMBR All hardware not essential for a working computer are not connected. Only my harddisk, Geforce4, processor, and RAM are connected. When I let windows xp professional boot normally or in safe mode, i randomly get one of the following.pci.sys missing or corrupted, use recovery console to.asapnp.sys missing or corrupted, use recover console to.or boot into black screen, computer dies.
I recently had troubles getting my Lite-On optical drive to run in DMA mode. I updated the JMicron drivers for it and it was working fine. I don't know if this has anything to do with it but the JMicron update had two options, one for SCSI and one for Standard IDE. I did the first one and everything was working then I did the second one and now XP won't start. I don't know if it is just chance or what. XP just keeps restarting after the logo with the status bar. I have tried unchecking the "Automatically Restart" under system failure options to see if there is a blue screen but it still just restarts. I have also tried a system recovery to back a week ago to no success. When starting in safe mode and loading drivers a message comes up that says "ESC to cancel loading SPTD.sys" or something like that. I don't know if that has anything to do with it either.
I have noticed a few things missing, the last 2 bolded out I know aren't of any importance but, the first 2 I am not completely sure of.

Also, When booting into safe mode to run my PC Tools AV, SpyBot Search and Destroy, AdawareSE, PC Tools Spyware Doctor and Ewido Anti-Malware. My CPU usage is at a constant 100% when and, only when, I am scanning with PC Tools AV. It takes about 6 hours to scan my whole computer. Is there any way I can lower my CPU usage?
I have a Dell Dimension 3000 running XP Professional. I have an 80G HD and 2GB RAM. I have downloaded and attempted to install Mediaplayer11.On the reboot I get the dreaded blue screen with the error 0X00000019 (0X00000020, 0X8A3400270, 0X8a34002A0, 0X1A060006) I then have to go to the safe mode and do a system restore
I have a Toshiba Laptop with Win XPPro. Won't boot-up to Windows. I first get a blue screen error message and then a black page with options: Safe Mode- Safe mode w/ Networking- Safe Mode w/ Command Prompt. None of these work; when I select one it just cycles back to this menu. I tried Win Logo Key /r but nothing. I can get into Set-Up. The computer was acting kind of fishy before it quit; the cursor would start moving left across the screen and I couldn't control it. I would shut-down and it would be ok, until it happened again. I did a Restore to try to repair it but the next time I turned on computer
I changed the BOOT.INI section of msconfig to boot windows in Safemode. Upon getting in Safemode, the computer finally recognized USB devices and the CD drive again (wasn't doing so in normal mode). So, I insert a Windows XP disc, used the Advanced install mode (the one that overwrites the previous installation of Windows), and everything seemed to be going great.
However, the machine restarts and tells me this "Windows XP Setup cannot run under Safemode. Setup will restart now." and has an OK button. I click it, thinking it's going to boot into normal mode. Well, it doesn't. It boots up again, says the same thing.I click OK.Restart.Again.OK.On and on into infinity.
I'm pretty sure I had a trojan or something cause my computer kept getting worse. I tried several scanning programs but none of them cleared it up completely.Anyway, now I can't even get past the windows loading screen, and if I try to log in through safe mode, I get stuck at the screen that says "SyS.multidisk" or something. Is there any way that I can log in dos mode or something and completely wipe my system clean and reinstall windows xp? I don't have the disk, it came with windows XP already on it. I don't care if I lose all my files, I just want a working computer again, free of any trojans or anything. So, can I somehow log in dos mode or something (I don't even know how to do that), wipe everything clean, including whatever virus screwed up my comp, and reinstall windows XP without the disk? I'm assuming I have a copy of windows XP saved on my hard drive or something, cause my computer came with windows XP already installed and they didn't give me a disk.
Was never able to restart after that. Normal boot shows the windows initial screen, but eventually just restarts, safe mode does the same thing whether it's with network, command line or plain safe mode. Last known good configuration does the same.Needed to use a file so decided to remove the HD and re-install to another PC. I did have access to the file in question but now I'd like to fix the problem. The other system uses AVG. I started a scan and it detected Cekar.d (A0003977.exe, wdfmgr.exe and initially ntldr.exe), Dropper.Inor (ntdetect.hta, A0003979.hta), PSW.Generic5.ABVW (ctfmona.exe), PSW.OnlineGames.AAFI (ctfmonb.exe), PSW.Generic5.AFYK (ctfmond.exe), PSW.OnlineGames.ZWT (LotusHlp.exe) and some others but for whatever reason the scan stopped. I restarted it and now the AV still finds most of the threats it was seeing before but not Cekar.d. in the ntldr.exe file.
My computer started acting up the other day. It would teboot on its own. Then today, something sparked and smoked. I turned it off hard. Then after a while I turned it back on, but it said restarting set up and asked for the installation CD. I put it in and Windows installed, but my documents was all gone to about four months worth.
Computer has been very slow in logging in and shutting down. Also my computer has been freezing for atleast 20 seconds or more until I have to just shut it down. I also found last night that my Malawarebytes scanner found this "Rogue Installer" which I deleted. My computer is still running slow to shutdown so I'm not sure if this program is still in. Actually, for a few months I had been having some trouble(intrusions) with some type of virus. I wanted to try to clean the computer on Safe mode. I tried numerous of times by clicking fast or holding down the f8 key for safemode but nothing happens. My second option was mscongfig box but I found there was no "BOOT. INI" option. I'm not sure if there is a way to restore this option?
Thinkpad T30 running XP pro. In order to use my wireless network I must run the services.msc program to start the wireless. I can connect to my neighbors unsecured wireless automatically but not my own secured network. Microsoft Bulletin # 871122 explains how to run the program but it is required to run every time I reboot. How do I permanently make the change?
I am living in a shared residence and the guys here are running wireless adsl. It is an infrastructure network using 128bit WEP encryption. I'm not sure about their hardware but I am using an asus 54mbps usb stick. I have no problmes logging on but for some reason the wireless config. program automatically checks the "the key is provided for me automatically" option in the network properties. Now this prevents me from getting access to the network after any sort of disconnection. If I uncheck this box the stars in the key field (representing the WEP key) dissappear and so the key needs to be reentered. It only does this some times and since I don't have a copy of the key (the network administrator enters it on my computer) every couple of days I need to get the key re-entered on my computer. It is a real hassle and I can't work out why windows keeps defaulting to this option of having the key provided automatically.
