the blue screen comes up, & computer shuts down so quickly that i can never read enough to get any info pertaining to the problem.!? any way of finding out what it says.? after the fact (after it reboots)
View 14 RepliesI have given my sister my old Averatec laptop that has Windows XP on it. While she is using it, eventually a blue screen appears, which is the precursor to it restarting suddenly. It happens so fast that we cannot read what the blue screen says. After it starts back up, we get a microsoft report saying a serious error has occured. This might not help, but I'll list it just in case. The error signature is:Is this a virus? If so, is there any hope without reformatting? I accidentally uninstalled the program that contained the OS files when I first got the computer.

View 1 Replies View RelatedFor the past two weeks, when I start or restart my Dell Dimension 8250 running Windows XP Home Edition, it passes through a blue page with a Windows label that says: "Checking the file system on C; The type of file is NTFS; Cannot open volume for direct access; Windows has finished checking the disk." Otherwise the computer seems to start up normally and operate as usual. Something has changed and I don't know what the problem may be.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI decided to do a fresh install of Windows XP Home. So, I put in the WinXP Install CD and set the BIOS to boot to CD. I deleted the partition (only one on my 60GB hard disk), created a new one, and formatted it NTFS - all by following directions in the Windows XP Setup program on the CD. Then I chose to setup WinXP on that formatted partition. The CD copies a bunch of files over, then tells me to remove disks and restart the computer. So, I do. I boots to the hard drive and gives me the "Windows XP Home Edition" screen with the moving green bar at the bottom while it's loading. Then it quickly goes to a rather blank screen that says "Setup is being restarted," strange moving lines cover the screen, and the computer restarts. It then does the same thing over, and over, and over again. I've tried repartitioning and restarting the setup process several times, trying every available option but after Windows Setup restarts the first time, it gets into that infinite loop of never proceeding to the next step of setup.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Dell Inspiron 2650 laptop on boot-up consistently gives a blue screen with ERROR (0X000000ED (0X81ACA988, 0XC0000006,0X00000000,0X00000000). I have read most of your fixes BUT in my case no matter what I do it ALWAYS boots to this screen. Trying to boot to Safe Mode results in a list of drivers prefixed by ?multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)c:windowsdriver.sys etc The machine will not boot from Floppy or CD and I?ve tried every combination of boot sequence under the F12 menu. In the BIOS it will not allow me to change any relevant settings, only the ?system date?, ?system time? and ?quiet boot?.and I cannot select the dropdown menu items either. Booting under Normal Startup, I see the Windows Logo and all that, but then the blue screen appears. I?ve tried removing the hard disk to get it to boot to floppy, removing the battery (which is totally dead), memory module, etc. Only thing left I think is to sling it in the Caribbean Ocean and go drink a bottle of rum.

beginning dump of physical memory dumping physical memory to disk: and counts up to 100 then the computer restarts. i was able to get into safe mode to try a system restore but when the computer restarted it never finished the install (it actually gave me the confirmation that the restore was successful while i was doing a repair install later on) i have tried going through the windows install disc repair utility and doing a chkdsk /p and a chkdsk /r upon doing /r it froze at 53 percent and did not move (i left it for a good 4 hours the first time before restarting it.. and then over night the second time.. and both times it never passed 53 percent............
For a computer-based-training course I need to create screen images. PrintScreen does a nice job taking screen-shots of the entire screen. I can't narrow focus to particular windows but I need a way to quickly remove and restore the desktop icons. I know about right-clicking the Desktop, Properties, Arrange Icons By, Show Desktop Icons. But this involves too many mouse clicks. It's OK for doing this every once in a while but I do lots of those in the course of the day. any way or tool to assign this to an unused hotkey on my keyboard?

During last scan, the available memory went from 300 mb to 0 in about forty minutes, and the program couldn't complete the scan. Can I sart in safe mode and resolve this, or other options.

So once I would login to windows I would get about 2 seconds before the screen would flash blue and I'd get some message I couldn't make out. This time, I got rid of even programs I did use. I cleared a few gigs again, but a month later, it was gone again. I moved all my picture and text files onto external drives.

You can attempt to repair this file by putting the winxp cd in etc...
Now when i turn on my computer there is just a black screen showing, with nothing at all on it.

The error stated that I should run Chkdsk and then proceeds to restart and bring me to the Windows boot selection screen (safe mode, last known good configuration, normally). No matter which choice I pick, it always leads to the BSOD then restarts. Since this is getting me nowhere fast, I want to just format and reinstall windows. I do not have my recovery CDs, and when I enter the BIOS to change the boot sequence I cannot change it so the CD drive is above the hard drive in priority. The reason it gives me in the bios is that "All items on this menu cannot be modified in user mode. If any items require changes, please consult your system supervisor. Any ideas on how I can boot off the cd and reinstall windows from scratch?

what i've tried:
boot to Last Known Good Configuration - resulting in the same blue screen
boot to Safe Mode / Safe Mode with networking / Safe Mode with comman prompt - resulting in blank (black) screen with "Safe Mode" in the corners and moveable mouse test the hardware (hard drive / memory etc.) via build in PC Doctor - all seems to be working
i am able to use bootable XP CD from other machine to get into Recovery Console
i am able to boot to simple live XP using BartPE-XPE usb key and access the hard drive

When I start the computer, it asks if for the choice of Safe Mode, w/ Networking, w/Command Prompt or Normally.
I've tried them all and if I try it normally, it won't get past the XP loading screen. It's loading and then it flashes a blue screen for a second and then restarts the computer again.
I tried pressing F8 at boot and selected 'Disable automatic restart on system failure' and this is what I get

View 3 Replies View RelatedI couldnt start up windows. It would hang at the windows loading screen and go no further. So I was told to try a repair-install. And thats where even more trouble has started. So I started to repair-install. During the Windows Install setup, it gets almost to the point of being completed, but gave me a blue screen error STOP message at around the "18 minutes left" mark. During "Registering components". It would do this every time at the same spot. So I searched a bit about how to solve the problem. One suggestion I found on the interwebs was to try it with only one stick of ram installed, I have four overall at 2gb. So I tried that, next time I boot up to the comp, it loads up the bios, and then goes to the black windows loading screen with the loading bar, then starts with a blue screen saying "Setup is being restarted" So I figure its restarting my windows installation since it never was completed, after that message, the screen goes black with a cursor, and stays that way forever. I immediately put all the ram back in, and no luck, same thing. I tested each individual ram stick, same thing, just goes black. So now, I can't even seem to re-install windows. Did my hard drive just crap out? Some hardware issue? Im already thinking about buying a new fresh hard drive, installing windows on there, and just moving all my files from the old hard drive over to the new one. Though that would be a pain, I really want to save my current drive! And all the data on it.

But after reading it i think this is a different problem, so, here goes: I recently bought a new graphic card: Radeon all-in-wonder x1800xl. Installed it on a clean system (did a reformat before i installed). The problem occurs after usually 30-60 minutes of gaming (so far with oblivion, black & white 2). The game freezes for about 30 sec and then goes into blue-screen mode.
The message is as follows:
Kernel-Data-inpage-error stop error screen
then there are a lot of numbers etc.
I have sometimes noticed a slight change in fan noise prior to freeze (speeding up)
After reebot everything's back to normal.........
When I turned my computer on this morning it starts up but when it gets to the boot screen it gives me a blue screen but my computer instantaniously restarts so i have no idea what it said. What should I do I'm using ERD Commander 2005 and that let me boot into my computer but its limited I've never used ERD Commander before I've tryed a few things but nothing has worked yet
