I didnt do anything, no new programs installed, but all of a sudden my pc beeps 5 or 6 times quickly every 5 or so minutes. i ran a virus check and a spybot check and a adaware check. nothing found.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI looked at past beeping problems on C-Net and also on Google but I can't find the situation I have. Once exactly at 3 minute intervals my computer gives a short (1 second) beep. Everything works fine so at first I ignored it but I know something is wrong and if possible I would like to fix it before I have a disaster. My Bios is Phoenix and when I checked beep codes there is nothing listed for 1 beep every 3 seconds. My HDD temp is 100 degrees F which is normal for my computer. I would appreciate it if anyone has any ideas which might explain and cure this beep. My profile lists computer info if needed.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI seem to be having problems as of late with my computer. for the past 10-15 days when I startup my computer sometimes Windows will load and other times it won't. I don't even get the privledge of the blue screen of death, but rather then brown green screen saying Windows failed to start. Usually it takes 3-4 tries before Windows successfully loads, but it seems to be getting progressively worse. I haven't installed any new software or modifiied any configuration details within the last 30days. I even tried a system restore point of about a month ago and I continue to have this problem.
I threw in my XP cd for a re-install but it says my version of windows is newer then the one on the cd, and after thinking about it, if this is a serious problem, having to re-install windows, all of my drivers for my 3rd party hardware and then update everything might not be worth the effort if I can just get a new computer. I have been pondering for a while of purchasing a mac for my next round of computer purchases so if it comes down to that, hardware and software costs from my current system are not a major issue. So is my computer just slowly dying like a used car, or what might be the problem?
my computer take about 10 minutes to load. It takes about 5 minutes to get to the user screen, and another 5 from there. This computer uaully would boot in around 1 min.

I have Windows XP Media Center SP 2. I also have KB890859 installed. (Added to this crappy lining in my cloud is not being able to get a couple other updates now, i.e. Rollup 2, etc)

I can't narrow focus to particular windows but I need a way to quickly remove and restore the desktop icons. I know about right-clicking the Desktop, Properties, Arrange Icons By, Show Desktop Icons. But this involves too many mouse clicks. It's OK for doing this every once in a while but I do lots of those in the course of the day. any way or tool to assign this to an unused hotkey on my keyboard?

During last scan, the available memory went from 300 mb to 0 in about forty minutes, and the program couldn't complete the scan. Can I sart in safe mode and resolve this, or other options.

So once I would login to windows I would get about 2 seconds before the screen would flash blue and I'd get some message I couldn't make out. I did some searching on your forums; and have now logged into safe mode, turned off the automatic restart and here's the error I get on the blue screen: A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again follow these steps: Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters.

This time, I got rid of even programs I did use. I cleared a few gigs again, but a month later, it was gone again. I moved all my picture and text files onto external drives.

While she is using it, eventually a blue screen appears, which is the precursor to it restarting suddenly. It happens so fast that we cannot read what the blue screen says. After it starts back up, we get a microsoft report saying a serious error has occured. This might not help, but I'll list it just in case. The error signature is:Is this a virus? If so, is there any hope without reformatting? I accidentally uninstalled the program that contained the OS files when I first got the computer.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI decided to do a fresh install of Windows XP Home. So, I put in the WinXP Install CD and set the BIOS to boot to CD. I deleted the partition (only one on my 60GB hard disk), created a new one, and formatted it NTFS - all by following directions in the Windows XP Setup program on the CD. Then I chose to setup WinXP on that formatted partition. The CD copies a bunch of files over, then tells me to remove disks and restart the computer. So, I do. I boots to the hard drive and gives me the "Windows XP Home Edition" screen with the moving green bar at the bottom while it's loading. Then it quickly goes to a rather blank screen that says "Setup is being restarted," strange moving lines cover the screen, and the computer restarts. It then does the same thing over, and over, and over again. I've tried repartitioning and restarting the setup process several times, trying every available option but after Windows Setup restarts the first time, it gets into that infinite loop of never proceeding to the next step of setup.

I am now getting beeps at start-up and no screen etc. The beep pattern is two long beeps followed by two short beeps and then a pause and two more short beeps. I am assuming it has something to do with the Video, but wanted to check here first.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI switch on my PC, it starts ok till the Windows Welcome screen. I hear the XP intro music then there's a 3 second pause, then a short beep, another 3 second pause, then another short beep, and then another 3 second pause followed by another short beep. Then the PC continues on to the desktop, and it seemingly runs ok. I regularly run Adaware, Spybot, Spyware blaster, CWShredder, and Microsoft Antispyware. everything comes up fine. I have PC-cillin 2005 on my system and that is checked regularly. Now I don't know if this is a coincidence or just what, but when I first heard the beeps, I thought to do a system restore back a month or so, but the system restore had been turned off. Now I know that I didn't do it, and no one else uses my system, so I don't know if that has anything to do with the beep problem.

My wife uses this for game play etc.It had 1 512m & 1 256 card in it & worked ok.
I removed the 256 card & put a second 512 in.When i boot up i just get 3 beeps all of the same length & the monitor light goes green & then back to orange & the screen says no signal.We bought the tower cheap about 12 months ago at 256mb so i put another 512 in it which made a great improvement.Just wondering why when i try to upgrade further this is happening.If i remove the second 512 & put the 256 back in it works fine.

I just put a computer together, and had a little trouble getting it started. When turned on, it starts to show the post check on the screen, then it stops and beeps once, followed by 9 more beeps. After a minute or so, it seems to warm up and start. Sometimes I have to hit the reset button. Once running, it is fine, but it is driving me crazy to figure out the beeps. I know that once upon a time, in DOS, different numbers of beeps meant something, but I can't remember or find a reference.It is irritating to have this sequence when starting the computer.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I restart the computer it POSTs fine (counts the memory, displays "the" table... etc). When It's about to start Windows it starts beeping. Continuous short beeps. The cursor just blinks on the screen and it beeps. When I press F8 to get to the boot menu, nothing happens. No boot menu appears.I did a repair install from my XP install CD - same thing happens, nothing has changed. I tried to restore MBR record through recovery console but again same thing, no change.

But if I leave it off for a few minutes it does boot up and works normal. I did put another memory stick in but it was beeping before this. Could it be anything to do with the power supply atx psu 250? I am not on it at the moment I dont know what type of bios it has. I have checked the two drives both seem ok when singly attached I did not need to but I have checked the memory 1 stick at a time seems ok. the other drive is a dvd rom plays but wont burn. Could it be a faulty EIDE cable I got a new one with the new drive but I did not use it.
