I have a MSI ms-7369 1.0 board with a ami v2.4 bios and at boot up I get 2 beeps a pause and then another 1 all of the same duration. what they mean and how to check and fix it
View 2 RepliesOccasionally when I'm typing out something in a text box, program, whatever, my cursor will just pause and several keystrokes might be dropped if I'm typing fast. This seems to happen randomly in spurts, like some days it's really bad and other days the problem doesn't occur. However, something related happens frequently in games, where I might press a key to go forward and it'll register as being continually pressed until I press the key once again. Specific keys don't do this, it seems like all of them do!

But after all the files are selected I want to del them or copy them or whatever... so I right click my mouse to get to the 'right click menu' but at this point there is a LONG pause. View 14 Replies View RelatedIn XP, as far as I know, the system has to restart in order to allow chkdsk to work on the drive. Well, it takes a while and I miss the messages at the end of the test. I have no idea whether it corrected anything or whether everything turned up fine.How can I have it wait for me to view the results? Or where can I find the results at?Is there a way to run chkdsk in XP without rebooting? What happens if I attempt this in safe mode?

ON XP Home SP-2. I've turned all the sounds to [none] in Control Panel/Sounds but I still get a beep when I for instance do something XP does not like.Is there a way to turn off all these error beeps?

when i go to turn on my computer, the regular short system beep is longer and then nothing happens, then it beeps again... and so on and so forth. prior to this problem my computer was running pretty unstable, for about 2 days it would reboot whenever it wanted and a couplke times i got a bluescreen message that i dont remember. i didnt write it down cuz im a moron, i have a feeling it has something to do with a surge and the power supply and im hoping i can just get a new better power supply.

View 9 Replies View Relatedwhen running chkdsk /f at command prompt in windows, i get the message about drive being in use, would you like to run chkdsk after next restart. I choose yes and restart the computer. But, after chkdsk runs, I dont have time to read the results as it quickly continues to load the OS when it is finished. Chkdsk (without /f) in cmd in windows tells me there is a problem with my file system although I do not have any bad sectors. I have run chkdsk /f (after restart) twice and it still has not fixed whatever the error is.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI use XP Media Center, Avast AV, new computer, and I'm an intermediate user. Yesterday, after rebooting the desktop, start menu and taskbar began flashing with a system beep. What I mean by "flashing" is the taskbar and start button would go off, the system would beep, then they return and do it again and again. It is working right now but I'm lucky for that. I ran a virus scan and spyware scan and my system has been cleaned, defragged and a disk scan has been performed (no negative results). When I boot in Safe Mode, it's ok. I did the elimination process through MSConfig and when the services are stopped, the problem is not apparent. Turn them on, and it's there again. Here is my Hijack report below......
View 2 Replies View Relatedonce the on button was pushed, it came up with the BIOS screen asking for the password.I removed the CMOS battery, which allowed me to change the Password so I can get onto BIOS now. However, when I boot now it just comes up with the BIOS screen.I set HD to boot first, aswell as setting the clock and date. I then ask it to save and quit, after which it shut's down, and reboots, only, BIOS keeps coming up. And I need to get this sorted asap

I was away from home for about a week and left the machine plugged into the mains but powered down. When I returned home to boot up, it kept doing things like constantly hanging on parts of the bios POST screen, eventually booting up after thirty or so complete restarts. It finally booted into windows but after the last shutting down, it will now not boot up at all. I have replaced the bios battery and reset the bios several times.

The only way I can get itno my xp pro system, is to use "F8" during the bios check, the select my hd from there, then it seems only half of my programs work, and it also seems to be randomly changing the programs that do not work, when I do this.

I am now getting beeps at start-up and no screen etc. The beep pattern is two long beeps followed by two short beeps and then a pause and two more short beeps. Once exactly at 3 minute intervals my computer gives a short (1 second) beep. Everything works fine so at first I ignored it but I know something is wrong and if possible I would like to fix it before I have a disaster. My Bios is Phoenix and when I checked beep codes there is nothing listed for 1 beep every 3 seconds. My HDD temp is 100 degrees F which is normal for my computer. I would appreciate it if anyone has any ideas which might explain and cure this beep. My profile lists computer info if needed.
View 8 Replies View RelatedGot a bit of a problem with my housemates pc.A friend gave him some extra RAM, i checked it out and it was crucial 512mb pc2100 CL2.5, and although it didn't match his exsisting RAM it seemed to me that his mobo would only run the FSB at 200mhz anyway so i went ahead and fitted it.It worked fine I then noticed his system temp was running a little high (60-65 degrees), so i took his heatsink off and cleaned the dust and refitted it with some new thermal compound.I added too much and the temp went up. To nearly 90 degrees.I shut it dwon as i didn't want the cpu to pop, cleaned it off, reapplied less compound and figured this would work fine.Now we have the problem. Most of the time: Power on and nothing happens. No bios, no beeps. Occasionally: Power on, i jump into the bios, the temp looks fine (30-40 degrees) and then it freezes right there in the bios after about 30 seconds to a minute.This sounds like a heat issue, but the last temp reading before freeze is 33 degrees.?I've double and triple checked that the heatsink is on properly and thats fine. I followed the official guide on how much compound to use (a blob the size of an uncooked short grain of rice).

I hear the XP intro music then there's a 3 second pause, then a short beep, another 3 second pause, then another short beep, and then another 3 second pause followed by another short beep. Then the PC continues on to the desktop, and it seemingly runs ok. I regularly run Adaware, Spybot, Spyware blaster, CWShredder, and Microsoft Antispyware. everything comes up fine. I have PC-cillin 2005 on my system and that is checked regularly. Now I don't know if this is a coincidence or just what, but when I first heard the beeps, I thought to do a system restore back a month or so, but the system restore had been turned off. Now I know that I didn't do it, and no one else uses my system, so I don't know if that has anything to do with the beep problem.
