Updating Dot NET Framework Quickly
May 20, 2006
since I've not been able to update since way back in December (as far as NET Framework updates)...what's the quickest way to start over on this worthless item since I can't download particular programs on the Internet, without it? I have Windows XP Media Center SP 2. I also have KB890859 installed. (Added to this crappy lining in my cloud is not being able to get a couple other updates now, i.e. Rollup 2, etc)

I have been installing each and every update from microsoft. I now get the Windows Update to install a security patch for Framework.net. It fails to install every time and comes back again and again to install. I did a very quick search on this problem and it seems there are problems concerning how Framework was loaded and what versions youo have.First of all, as far as I know, I have only loaded a new Framework version because a program I downloaded informed me I need this new version. I do not keep track of how I loaded Framework, what versions or anything. Looking as some of these proposed solutions require knowing a lot more about how you loaded them and what versions you have.

For a computer-based-training course I need to create screen images. PrintScreen does a nice job taking screen-shots of the entire screen. I can't narrow focus to particular windows but I need a way to quickly remove and restore the desktop icons. I know about right-clicking the Desktop, Properties, Arrange Icons By, Show Desktop Icons. But this involves too many mouse clicks. It's OK for doing this every once in a while but I do lots of those in the course of the day. any way or tool to assign this to an unused hotkey on my keyboard?

After almost daily cleaning, my computer's C: drive fills up with little or no use; is now at "0 available bytes", so I can't even scan w/ AVG. During last scan, the available memory went from 300 mb to 0 in about forty minutes, and the program couldn't complete the scan. Can I sart in safe mode and resolve this, or other options.

Let me just say I'm not the computer savvy one in the family, waiting for him to get home later. So once I would login to windows I would get about 2 seconds before the screen would flash blue and I'd get some message I couldn't make out. I did some searching on your forums; and have now logged into safe mode, turned off the automatic restart and here's the error I get on the blue screen: A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again follow these steps: Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters.

I have 18.4 GB on the C drive.About a year ago, I needed more space so Iuninstalled programs that I hadn't used for awhile, and it cleared enough several gigs of space for me to do stuff again.Afew months later, although i hadn't added any programs, I was out of space again. This time, I got rid of even programs I did use. I cleared a few gigs again, but a month later, it was gone again. I moved all my picture and text files onto external drives.

I have given my sister my old Averatec laptop that has Windows XP on it. While she is using it, eventually a blue screen appears, which is the precursor to it restarting suddenly. It happens so fast that we cannot read what the blue screen says. After it starts back up, we get a microsoft report saying a serious error has occured. This might not help, but I'll list it just in case. The error signature is:Is this a virus? If so, is there any hope without reformatting? I accidentally uninstalled the program that contained the OS files when I first got the computer.

I decided to do a fresh install of Windows XP Home. So, I put in the WinXP Install CD and set the BIOS to boot to CD. I deleted the partition (only one on my 60GB hard disk), created a new one, and formatted it NTFS - all by following directions in the Windows XP Setup program on the CD. Then I chose to setup WinXP on that formatted partition. The CD copies a bunch of files over, then tells me to remove disks and restart the computer. So, I do. I boots to the hard drive and gives me the "Windows XP Home Edition" screen with the moving green bar at the bottom while it's loading. Then it quickly goes to a rather blank screen that says "Setup is being restarted," strange moving lines cover the screen, and the computer restarts. It then does the same thing over, and over, and over again. I've tried repartitioning and restarting the setup process several times, trying every available option but after Windows Setup restarts the first time, it gets into that infinite loop of never proceeding to the next step of setup.

This tweak quickly completes website address in Internet Explorer by adding the www. prefix and the .com suffix1. Type the main name of the website. eg. Microsoft 2. Press CTRL + Enter3. IE completes the address to www.microsoft.com and starts going to the site.Notes:Works on all newer versions of Internet Explorer. Only completes for www. and .com - not for countries such as .co.uk or .com.au. Make sure that "Use autocomplete" is enabled in Internet Options Advanced, otherwise this will not work.

For the past two weeks, when I start or restart my Dell Dimension 8250 running Windows XP Home Edition, it passes through a blue page with a Windows label that says: "Checking the file system on C; The type of file is NTFS; Cannot open volume for direct access; Windows has finished checking the disk." Otherwise the computer seems to start up normally and operate as usual. Something has changed and I don't know what the problem may be.

I updated my xp home edition with sp2 but upon doing it, i lost my windows media player with all my songs in their specific folders .and lost my soundcard settings, it showed as zero modem.so i did a recovery back to how i had my system and the media player and the speaker icon which shows my settings are back. I checked in control panel to see if i could find the settings i had before (Creative SB live), but it didn't give me the options of soundblaster, just showed "zero modem" ,in other words my sound card seemed to be disabled/lost. I then clicked on my windows media icon, and it would direct me to get the newest version which i did, but then it would not play "anything". My sister has almost the same system and she upgraded without losing anything, why am i losing my windows media and speaker icon on my notification area. im fairly computer savvy, but this has me stumped.

Will be building a new system down the road and was going to use XP for the OS. I found a place online that has the retail version of XP Home with Service Pack 1 for $141.My question is, can I take a recent SP2 disc from Microsoft and use it to update the above to SP2? If so, it would save me about $38 vs buying the retail version of XP Home with SP2 already on it from the same place.

I updated Windows XP to Service Pack 2 yesterday. After installing and re-booting, the screen resolution and the colours of my monitor have changed (big icons and only four colours), which makes it look like it was in Safe Mode (which it isn't).I have tried to change the screen resolution and the colours under Display properties - Settings, but it only gives me the option of a screen resolution of "640x480 pixels" (the slider won't move) and colour quality of "Lowest 4 bit".I presumed it was a driver issue so I have tried to uninstall the graphics controller in the device manager and re-install it with the latest driver.

I have a dell dimension C 21 pc with windows XP home edition service pack 2 which I have had for some months now. I have the free edition of AVG. We are 2 users, I am the main user and my partner is the second user. A problem frequently arises when he switches to his"area" in that an AVG box comes up for updating but then freezes . He then tries to shut it down gets the message "this program is not responding click on end or cancel" so we can't get rid of it.I have spoken to the Dell help line who a) want to charge me for any advice as they say this is nothing to do with the hardware, and only the hardware is guaranteed b) when I complain about this they say I have to get rid of

The process of updating archive is shown for a second, then my computer restart. The problem also occurs when I try to install Avast Home Edition. The progress bar of installation continues but at the same percent, my computer restart. I've tried for another version of Avast, installing Malware Byte, but my computer restart too. After restarting, it shows a dialog says "Microsoft has recovered from a serious error." I simply click OK and my computer works fine, except for updating Winrar archive again or installing Avira and Malware Byte.
