Well i just reformated my whole pc to get rid of some viruses. But now my drivers have become way out of date. ive easily managed to update my graphics card drivers but i cant find anything else for the rest of my devices. Ive heard of programs that do this for you. Does anyone now of any good FREE driver updating software?

I have two logical hard drives and my C drive is Logical, How do i make that my Physical hard drive so i could update to windows 7. Because it's not showing any drivers under Disk management but it shows them under disk defragment

Since then neither CD drive has worked. So I went over last night to help her. Dell has a pretty handy little maintenance utility partition that you can access from the bootup menu. It has some little self tests and such for verifying hardware. It is able to read the drives fine, so no hardware issues there.If I boot to the recovery console, the drives will talk. But if I boot to windows I get an error code 31 in the device manager and the don't load.Prior to this morning I didn't know about the UpperFilters and LowerFilters settings that can fix this very issue. At the time I figured something had just gotten screwed up with SP2. I have an XP Home with SP2 cd, so I tried to do a repair installation.
First off I am a power user and there is rarely a problem I cannot fix, so you can probably reserve any Tier type fixes. Desktops all running Windows XP SP3
of them are HP Pavilions, mine is custom built with ASUS mobo I've been through 6 different routers of 3 different brands and styles, because it SEEMS like a router issue but it simply cannot be after that many replacements.
Tried the cmd command you suggested for corrupt info file, 4 files still there. I've tryed crap cleaner, reg cleaner, spybot, restoring the registry, Still same result, Please help. At least now I have it where if I delete a file it will delete the ones I put in now but still leaves them 4, before it kept adding before I used all them methods and I got rid of my Norton SystemWorks as well as tryed NukeZilla

And if left to its own devices would do this all day, i've tried booting from cdrom drive and no joy but i've lost my recovery disk and really in a muddle as i'm basically computer novice any ideas what i can do to fix this i don't care about losing everything i just wanna start from scratch, my friend has windows 7 disk for me to install but i don't know how to remove my windows to be able to install windows 7.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI updated my xp home edition with sp2 but upon doing it, i lost my windows media player with all my songs in their specific folders .and lost my soundcard settings, it showed as zero modem.so i did a recovery back to how i had my system and the media player and the speaker icon which shows my settings are back. I checked in control panel to see if i could find the settings i had before (Creative SB live), but it didn't give me the options of soundblaster, just showed "zero modem" ,in other words my sound card seemed to be disabled/lost. I then clicked on my windows media icon, and it would direct me to get the newest version which i did, but then it would not play "anything". My sister has almost the same system and she upgraded without losing anything, why am i losing my windows media and speaker icon on my notification area. im fairly computer savvy, but this has me stumped.

A friends HP Media Center PC m7077c crashed. Had no recover disk, etc. Installed XP Pro SP2 and I need drivers (according to Device Manager). No sound is obvious but video controller is not. Video seems okay. Where do I find drivers for this machine. XP Pro, Home and MCE are different OS's ... as far as my experience. The drivers are not the same.

When i installed the graphics card drivers, i tried testing the graphics on a game (counter-strike) but as soon as i got into the game, the pc flashes a blue screen, and reboots. I cant see what the blue screen says because it flashes on and off again to quick for me to read it. I decided to uninstall the graphics card drivers, and the game worked perfectly, but the graphics were REALLY bad. So i thought i might need to update some other drivers, so i tried to install my wireless network card, but when i finished installing the drivers when i had to restart my computer, it flashed the BSOD.... AGAIN! I need help urgently as im going to a LAN gaming comp called "rezidue" and its on in 2 weeks, i need my pc fixed by then! All these problems started when i upgraded my CPU. Everything was running smooth, and i was happily playing along on my computer, when i was asked what my FPS was in counter-strike, and i was all "mine are 65!" and there like "wow that sucks, mines 130" so i set out on my epic quest to get better FPS then everyone else and MAN THAT WAS A MISTAKE. I upgraded from my celeron 2.8ghz cpu to a P4 3.0ghz HT cpu, and thats when things started messing up on me. After installing and re-booting, the screen resolution and the colours of my monitor have changed (big icons and only four colours), which makes it look like it was in Safe Mode (which it isn't).I have tried to change the screen resolution and the colours under Display properties - Settings, but it only gives me the option of a screen resolution of "640x480 pixels" (the slider won't move) and colour quality of "Lowest 4 bit".I presumed it was a driver issue so I have tried to uninstall the graphics controller in the device manager and re-install it with the latest driver.

We are 2 users, I am the main user and my partner is the second user. A problem frequently arises when he switches to his"area" in that an AVG box comes up for updating but then freezes . When I try to add 4th file to the archive, the problem occurs. The process of updating archive is shown for a second, then my computer restart.The problem also occurs when I try to install Avast Home Edition. The progress bar of installation continues but at the same percent, my computer restart. I've tried for another version of Avast, installing Malware Byte, but my computer restart too.After restarting, it shows a dialog says "Microsoft has recovered from a serious error." i created a norton ghost image of a machine, which i deployed onto a new pc. my problem is that when i go to run windows update, it runs through the process, finds a lot of updates, but then fails to run the update. the pc i took the image off would have had the latest updates, but on the new pc it looks like the windows update wont work.
