I had media player 9 than I upgraded to 10 thinking it would solve the problem but it didnt. Everytime I play an mpeg or an avi file(or any video file) I cant control the brightness, hue etc it just snaps back to default settings everytime I move the slider to the left or right.

So then i booted up in Safe Mode, and then i could see because of the compatibility driver, so. then i boot up in Last Known Good Config, and I'M STUCK WITH SAFE MODE SETTINGS no sound driver running, task bar is the ugly gray one, and you know just stuff like that
View 14 Replies View RelatedRecently I reinstalled XP Home Edition and XP Pro using a slipstreamed installation disk contain SP2 and the latest hotfixes. Following those installations I found that I could not easily access any Drive Image (pqi) files that were created under the newly installed operating systems. The images could be restored but only after booting from the Drive Image rescue floppies. I also was not able to open and explore any of those images using Drive Image ImageExplorer. Images created prior to these installation could be opened and restored within windows with Drive Image. To access the images created under the new OS installation I had start the Home Edition in the safe mode and the go the image file, right click and select security. Then I had to add my user name under services and then check full control. In the XP Pro system I had to disable simple file protection and then change the security settings in a similar manner. This all had to be done even though the user has full administrator rights. I've been using Drive Image 2002 for the last 2 years for backups on both Home Edition and Pro versions of XP so this behavior is something I believe is new an possible a result of security updates included in the new installations. I really need access to these images from within windows but I also need to retain simple files sharing on my XP Pro machine.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI currently have a video on my disk in a folder (yes I needed to specify this ). My problem happens when I go into this folder: windows hangs, and when I hit CTRL + ALT + DEL I see drwtsn.exe running. When I close it down exporer just restarts. This problem happens with no other video file I have. I have tried: renaming the video and the folder (done quickly before windows freezes) aswell as placing the file on another partition (though I can't do this because windows hangs when I try to move it).
I have a 'clean' computer meaning it's always kept free of viruses, spyware, adaware and all my security programs are updated and executed regularly. This problem is pretty annoying as there are other files in this folder that I can't always access in time!
I had a .dll file disappear due to the loading of a new video driver. I have googled it and downloaded it, but I don't know where to place it within my windows directory tree in order to solve the problem. I have tried to place it in the windows root directory, the windows/system directory, and the windows/system32 directory, all to no avail.
The .dll file is MSVCP71.DLL.Can anyone point me in the right direction?
When I try to download a short video or the supposid missing file I get this message. C:DOCUME/`1OWNERLOCALS~1TEMPqrorw03.exe be as source file could not be read. I guess I really haven't the faintest idea what this is all about. I have to assume that I have a file missing.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI downloaded a video file (12.2GB) from my digital video camera, made my movies and saved them, then I deleted the downloaded file but the memory (12.2GB) is still occupied on my system. After defragmenting my hard drive the report tells me the 12.2GB file is unable to be defragemented so I know the file is somewhere but I can not find the AVI file nor the folders RECYCLER or NPROTECT. This is eating a huge chunk of my hard drive and I need to get rid of it.

Come to think of it, the blank/black screen I'm talking about looks exactly like when I switch between PC's using the KVM. But only one of the PCs has this quirk.
I have a used laptop and have removed all of the previous owner's data. I have created a new user. I have changed the owner's name in My Computer and in the registry. Everything works well and I can find all my new files in My Documents as I expect. However in C:Docs and Settings there is a folder with the old owner's name. XP will not let me rename it or delete it and says it is "a Windows system folder and is requred for Windows to run properly". Apparently some part of XP is still using some files/folders in the old owner's name folder. How can I get around this so I can clean up my disk and delete the old owner's folder?

View 11 Replies View RelatedTrouble watching video from one of my hard drives (XP). At first I thought it was a codec problem so I uninstalled and reinstalled the codecs but that never worked.
Then I tried watching video on the other hard drive and no problem there.
I confirmed that its a hard drive problem when I tried to copy one of the files from the problematic hard drive, it showed 30mins left where it normally takes 1-2mins.
I checked to see if the channel was in PIO mode but all are in DMA.
I used to be able to grab a video clip form the internet and save it to my computor. Now when I grab a video with a wmv extension and do a "save target as" it only saves it as a htm file and does not grab the video itself.

I then shut my computer down to restart it, used it a few times (in 4-bit safe mode), then after I shutdown again, I cant log back in... it just freezes and the screen flashes, I cannot boot into my computer setup (default f2) or into safe mode (default f8), however I can run the XP cd and get into the recovery console, is there any way that I can change the boot sequence from the recovery console? The screen is dotted with a bunch of dots up and down the screen in columns, and is in 4-bit video mode.

I have managed to put video footage onto my PC from a video cassette (by plugging my VCR into the TV aerial socket). The video footage is saved on my PC as .mpg files & when I open them, they play fine on Windows Media Player.When I import them on to Windows Movie Maker, they are recognised as video footage and I am able to put them into the collections as video. However, for some reason, when I drag them onto the timeline, they go onto the audio line & I can't get them to go on the video line, so when I play it, the sound plays but there is no picture. I have tried saving them as .AVI files but that makes no difference
I have window XP SP2 installed on my laptop. I also use InterVideo WinDVD Creator for video editing. Recently when I try to import video file into my application, my laptop, processing percentage goes up to 98%, and the application just freezes up. I also tried the Microsoft movie maker software and I get the same result. I was wondering if I need to reinstall the application or there is something that my laptop is missing. Use fine, then after its been on for awhile it goes black again. Weird. I have the newest drivers and all the windows updates loaded. It just keeps going out. I have tried several screens as well to rule out the monitor freaking out.

I went to Disk Cleanup up and deleted all Temp and Temp internet files, but the images are still there. I checked Properties of the images for the file names, went to Win Explorer, but only found C:Documents and Settingsuser, there was no subfolder for Local Settings and, obviously nothing after that. I did a Search in Explorer, including hidden files and folders, for the file names and the searches resulted in nothing. I am back to deleting one-by-one, but my concern is, Where did everything from Local Settings on go to. BTW, I also run Skybot, Adaware and Norton virus weekly
