Undeletable Folder On Desktop
Dec 29, 2004
I put a folder on my desktop from a harddrive that had some weird access issues (formatting fixed it), but the folder on the desktop still has the problem that it did when it was on the original drive. Basically, the folder can't be deleted, and it's contents can't be opened. Its properties say that it's empty but it's not.

Then I try into the command prompt, exit explorer from the task manager

I made a folder (right click/new folder) on my desktop and used it to keep some files I received organized. When I was done with the job, I erased everything and when I went to delete the folder, it tells me: Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk.
I have tried deleting it on boot (?) but those programs only delete files not folders.

My operating system is Window 2000.Last Friday my laptop was infected with UnSpyPC, a Quicklink toolbar and 6 large icons. Thanks to HiJackThis and Spyware removal programs etc I think I have gotten rid of the problematic crap. However now I seem to have ended up with a few corrupt Folders/Files.Whenever I try to run a Norton Antivirus scan or any number of Spyware removal programs such as Spybot, Spysweeper, Ewido, Ad-Aware etc they all get stuck or crash on one particular general data Folder. Explorer.exe also crashes and generally freezes the whole system when trying to access or search this folder

The utility I use on my computer (a 3GHz P4 running Win XP) is SystemSuite 7. Like all utilities, it has a registry cleaner. However, every time I do a registry cleanup, four keys show up as empty and are automatically checked by the program for deletion, but when I hit the "Next" button to delete everything that's checked, those four keys cannot be deleted because "Access is denied". As I say, all are reported by SystemSuite as empty. I've checked them and they are indeed empty. I tried booting into Safe Mode as Administrator to delete them using regedit, but access is also denied in Safe Mode. How can I get rid of these? SHOULD I get rid of them (i.e., even though empty, do they server some obscure purpose)?

I just downloaded a short video clip through a download program, intending to watch the clip and then simply delete the file. However, after downloading not only would the file not play using media player, but I could not delete the file from the "My Music" file. Right click gave only the options to "Play", "Add to media player playlist", or "Open With...." and the toolbar was likewise useless.

Using Start > Run > %temp% > Select All > Delete > Yes,
I find there are a couple left over that wont let me delete them. They are ZTR21E.tmp and ZTR224.tmp.
I receive an error message:
Cannot delete ZTR21E.tmp: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and
that the file is not currently in use. (There are no programs open and the Task Manager confirms that.)

I was wondering if there is a way to point the Background page (Right click>Properties>Desktop) to another folder? The folder it is currently showing has pictures in it that I don't want set as a background, but there is another folder I have which I do want to be used. Edit:: I'm guessing there is just some .ini file somewhere that I need to alter, but I don't know where to start looking.

For some unknown reason, my Favorites Folder's Icon, (i.e. C:D& SUser's Name Favorites), has reverted from its' accustomed "Yellow Star" to a "Default" Windows' Folder. The same applies to to the Favorites Icon Shortcut on my Start Menu. The "Yellow Star" is present in C:D&SAdministratorFavorites; however, if I copy the Desktop.ini file from the Administrator folder to my user name, or simply attempt to customize it manually via the "Change Icon" method in "Properties", I still get nowhere.

My Temporary internet folder is out on my desktop as I use it quite frequently. This has been the case for years and it has worked flawlessly. Recently when I open it I get a message, "This page has an unspecified potential security flaw, would you like to continue?". When I click "OK" the Temp folder opens normally. This happens even when the folder is empty. Its annoying to have to keep doing this. My Internet Explorer security settings are quite low, and haven't been changed for ages, well before this message started appearing. I've cleared the caches and index.dat files, run AVG virus checker, SpybotS&D, and all sorts of other cleaning/security stuff but to no avail.

There is a Temporary Internet Files folder literally STUCK on my desktop. There was another listed under My Documents > When I tried to delete that one, it deleted. So then I tried to move the folder on the desktop to My Documents with no success. "Access Denied", or "In use by another user or program. Close all programs and try again." I tried to "Send" the folder to another location on the computer with no success. Also tried deleting it and cutting and pasting it some where else, that also did not work. Temporary Internet Files folder's properties: General Tab > Attributes: Read only box is checked and grayed out.

The only way out of it it to either log off or shut down and restart. When I open the recycle bin though it appears full on the desktop icon I could not see any item on it.If I try do delete, move this folder or any of the command on the left file/folder task pane I only get hour glass. The only way out of it is ctrl+alt+del, task manager (program not responding) end task.
