Undeletable Folder - Tried DOS And Various Software
Jul 14, 2005
C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersDocuments, looks like a harmless Documents folder, yet it is not accessible (trying to open I get a pop-up saying "access is Denied") When I try to erase it I get the windows system folder blah blah blah cannot be deleted. Then I try into the command prompt, exit explorer from the task manager
I put a folder on my desktop from a harddrive that had some weird access issues (formatting fixed it), but the folder on the desktop still has the problem that it did when it was on the original drive. Basically, the folder can't be deleted, and it's contents can't be opened. Its properties say that it's empty but it's not.
I have a folder that is on my desktop that I want to delete. Unfortunetly, after I delete it, after a few minutes, it comes back. I've tried a number of reg edit programs
I made a folder (right click/new folder) on my desktop and used it to keep some files I received organized. When I was done with the job, I erased everything and when I went to delete the folder, it tells me: Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk.
I have tried deleting it on boot (?) but those programs only delete files not folders.
My operating system is Window 2000.Last Friday my laptop was infected with UnSpyPC, a Quicklink toolbar and 6 large icons. Thanks to HiJackThis and Spyware removal programs etc I think I have gotten rid of the problematic crap. However now I seem to have ended up with a few corrupt Folders/Files.Whenever I try to run a Norton Antivirus scan or any number of Spyware removal programs such as Spybot, Spysweeper, Ewido, Ad-Aware etc they all get stuck or crash on one particular general data Folder. Explorer.exe also crashes and generally freezes the whole system when trying to access or search this folder
i've duplicate folders in certain folders but i can't delete them, the folder has the same name but under it there is a detail "gy". the folder shape is slight bigger and straight. what to do?
I reinstalled Windows XP Pro and afterwards a folder, with subfolders, is not possible to open or even delete. It contained quite a lot of data and now it says that it contains 0 files.I have tried programs like deleteatboot and unlock, but its still there. I can drag and drop files into the folder but then that file just dissapear and the folder still says 0 files and 0 bytes.I can also move the folder.
The utility I use on my computer (a 3GHz P4 running Win XP) is SystemSuite 7. Like all utilities, it has a registry cleaner. However, every time I do a registry cleanup, four keys show up as empty and are automatically checked by the program for deletion, but when I hit the "Next" button to delete everything that's checked, those four keys cannot be deleted because "Access is denied". As I say, all are reported by SystemSuite as empty. I've checked them and they are indeed empty. I tried booting into Safe Mode as Administrator to delete them using regedit, but access is also denied in Safe Mode. How can I get rid of these? SHOULD I get rid of them (i.e., even though empty, do they server some obscure purpose)?
I just downloaded a short video clip through a download program, intending to watch the clip and then simply delete the file. However, after downloading not only would the file not play using media player, but I could not delete the file from the "My Music" file. Right click gave only the options to "Play", "Add to media player playlist", or "Open With...." and the toolbar was likewise useless.
Theres a file which is "corrupt" but when I try deleting it, it appears in the recycle bin like it should, but then if I try deleting from the recycle bin it keeps reappearing. I've tried going into safe mode and deleting is but no success. Can somebody please tell me how to delete this
Using Start > Run > %temp% > Select All > Delete > Yes, I find there are a couple left over that wont let me delete them. They are ZTR21E.tmp and ZTR224.tmp. I receive an error message:
Cannot delete ZTR21E.tmp: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use. (There are no programs open and the Task Manager confirms that.)
Today I downloaded a software called "spaceMonger" and explored my C drive (Not rooot drive) for the disc space usages..I got some huge files under Recycler and deleted em.But, There were some folders that software reffered as UNSCANNABLES.
I have some bz2 files totalling 171MB on an external disk drive which I cannot delete. When I try to do so from Explorer I get the message Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk. When I click on one of them 7Zip lists them with all their properties, but when I try to delete from there I get the same message. I do not understand how a file can be readable and not readable at the same time. I have tried MoveOnBoot without success
I am trying to copy my Quicken files and it states it automatically copies them in the Windows XP's temporary CD burning folder. How do I find this folder to copy these files onto a CD or DVD.
I'm played with the folder options over and over and for some reason ever though I have clicked open folder in same window and "launch folder window in a separate process" is NOT clicked, for some reason when I double click to open a folder it still opens it with a new window. Also, under file types it won't let me edit or remove the commands for folder, drive, and file folder.
I have a problem. When I double click a folder, I am sent to the Search Results folder and the content of my folder is not displayed. To access the files from a folder I need to right-click and click on the Open command
When I try and open My Pictures for example it opens up command prompt for that folder. I've been messing about in My Computer trying to change folder icons. But some how I've managed to stop opening fodlers.
In previously highlighted issues regarding backing-up shared documents to my Seagate Freeagent hard drive, I simply decided to move the My Music Folder from the shared documents folder, but Windows is disallowing me from doing this stating that My Music is a Windows system folder & cannot be renamed or removed? Any help please on getting around this to move My Music from the shared documents? I'm running XP with servce pack 3.
I have a shared folder which contains many folders for many users on my network and to make users folders recognisable we chose to fix a folder picture of every folder with the picture of the folder owner. The problem is that those folders never have a constant folder picture on all of my network computers as the picture always changes for some reason, I've tried to set permissions on thumb.db file
I'm absolutely dumbstruck by what just happened. I was a little too quick with my clicking, and instead of opening the folder containing my pictures, I dragged it into another folder called "14941b93d3ad9f41aa7df524fe". I will refer to it as the folder of doom. The folder contains two sub-folders
I have a recurring problem on Folder Views / Folder Types that has been bugging me for a long time. You can customize a folder with a "folder type" - Documents, Pictures, Music, Video, etc - which comes with a default view and a list of default attributes most relevant to the type (artist and album title for music, dimension for video, etc). You can also setup so that the settings are "memorized". However, the memory seems to be quite short term for some of my folders. They tend to randomly reset themselves and there seems to be a consistent but unrecognizable pattern. For example, my "My Documents" folder is always changed to a pictures folder, while some of my music folders are changed to video
I was just changing some folder icons in Folder Options>File Types and now when I click on a folder it opens in OneNote! I went to File Types>File Folder>Advanced and under the Actions it reads: Add to VLC find Lock folder with Folder Lock Open as Notebook in OneNote Play with VLC
The first two of the 3 check boxes underneath are ticked. I have no idea what the default action was before, but I don't see anything resembling simply open a folder. Can anyone help me reset the default action or create a new one to open the folder?
i updated my windows XP home edition to service pack2, but i recently found out that my system32 folder is missing from C:WINDOWS.I also use search to look for it and i couldn't find it anywhere on My Computer.I have also been getting an Application error recently and i have noticed this after i deleted my AVG anti-virus (I'm not sure whether deleting AVG was the problem). The error says:"The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application.Sometimes the application is rundll32.exe, explorer.exe and when i turn on my computer it says that the error is userinit.exe at the welcome screen.
Is there a way to duplicate data from the OE store folder into another folder in an automatic way, so that there is always an updated backup available?
For some reason, the right-click context menu on any of my folders now defaults to Search..., but this is not in my Folder or File Folder in File Types. I will post an HJT log if needed.
I need to create two unqiue shortcuts that will copy two different folders contents and overwrite to another folder (including all sub-folders & files). The destination folder/subs will be the same location for both of the other two folders being copied.
