I have this folder that keeps reappearing on my desktop. It does not matter how many times I delete it, this folder keeps comming back. There is nothing in the folder and it seems to comeback whenever I use windows media player. Does anyone know how I can get rid of this folder, its driving me crazy that I can't get rid of it.
Can I recover messages I accidentally deleted in Outlook Express of Windows 2000XP? These messages were in their own file but somehow got moved to a subfile of the Deleted Items folder. In trying to removed the Deleted Items folder the sub-folder went with it. There were a large number of messages I had received via e-mail that I intended to keep.
Anyone know how to get rid of the "Language Bar"? I thought it might have been a group policy at work that was causing it to reappear after I manually unchecked it in the toolbars option, but I am getting the same problem on my home computer as well. Both PC's (home and work) are running XP SP2. The only difference (if it means anything) is that the work PC is running Office 2003, and my home PC has Office 2007 Beta2TR.
I wanted to clean up little bit a HKCU - run, and i started to back up every single value separately but after 2nd I didn't notice that the whole run folder was highlighted so I confirmed a deletion and Oops - now the folder is gone. (the dumb touch pad did it not me).Luckily most of the stuff still works, windows starts normaly, but I lost a volume control throug the keyboard (Sorry I didn't mention it before, it's a laptop intel P4 2Ghz, 2G ram, Xp sp2 pro.) and I am scared what will happen next if I try to install something that requires to put the value in this folder. I tried to create a run folder under the selected HKCU but it keeps placin' a new folder under windows update tree. Any idea how can I save my system from re-install? Is there a way to restore this, I tried system restore but it says there is nothing to restore. I checked the recycle bin and it's not there. Any sugestion is welcome.
I have windows XP home on an hp pavilion. My bin was extremely full--hence the accident. I hoped it would come back on reboot, and I tried system restore. I am using undelete, but I think the program converts the recycle bin to its own recovery folder. Hope to get a solution.
I have is that there is something wrong with my Temp folder perhaps. i think it is probably deleted or renamed or something. I looked for it and i did find it but i am not sure what is wrong with it. When i try to run a new installation for example, the other i was trying to re-install windows movie maker, and an error message comes up. The error message is shown below. What should i do to get m Temp folder 'working' again?

A co-worker cannot locate a folder containing templates for form letters. He has searched for the files, checked other locations and recycle bin. He thinks someone may have moved or deleted it. How can we find/recover the files
I am having great difficulty with my current hard drive, a Maxtor 160GB 7200 drive. About a month ago, several folders began randomly turning into gibberish, and when I click on the folder, the amount of data listed is in the Gigabytes, instead of Megabytes. The corrupted folders could not be deleted, nor could the programs be removed. So, three weeks ago, I reinstalled Windows XP and re-formatted the partition on which these corrupted folders were located. For three weeks, things have been just fine. Today, however, when I tried to use Corel Quattro Pro, it would not work. Sure enough, the entire Corel folder has turned into unintelligible goo, and can not be deleted. At first, I thought a virus might be causing this random corruption. However, I now I suspect that this constitutes hard drive corruption, possibly early signs that hard drive failure is around the corner. One bit of information that I think I need to relay is that, in addition to Windows XP, I also run Windows 98 on this computer. None of the 7 partitions are over 20GB, however, so I wouldn't think that Windows 98 would have any trouble recognizing the data.
I accidentally deleted my entire "My Music" folder from the "My Documents" folder after moving a bunch of files from it to an external hard drive. It was permanently deleted - did not go to the recycle bin first. System Restore did not bring it back.
I have Windows XP, and I may have accidentely deleted "something" that rendered my desktop disabled. I have no Start button, icons, clock, nothing. Just my wallpaper. Right click doesnt do anything. I am still getting used to XP. In WIndows ME, there was a windows empory internet files folder and a windows emp folder that I deleted regularly because IE saved a bunch of unwanted files in there all the time. Where are these folders in XP? I have done a search for them and have found a few different ones but just arent sure which are what. Where should I look, or where can I find them?
Recently, about a week ago, my PC froze so I had no choice but to manually shut it down. After I rebooted it, any files aside from program icons and windows explorer icons were gone (i.e folders, videos, pictures all gone). I am no expert on how to recover these. I had some really important, and meaningful files from there
I don't remember the conditions that brought this about, but I have a very small Excel icon on my notebook's desktop that can't be deleted. It does not load and has no display when you right or left click on it and remains in the same spot.
Running winXP.I recently accidentally deleted Userinit.exe due to a false positive. Desktop would not load up but could still run programs.read somewhere that userinit.exe ran explorer.exe so tried running that from run.would start to work, brought desktop n everything up, but would freeze.on a whim i opened the control panel from run to see if there was anything i could do from there. When i ran control, it started my desktop and everything worked just fine. Since then, i can start everything normally from running control when i start up. but i imagine it would still be healthier for my computer in general to have userinit working properly. however, here is where my computer knoledge fades. from reading other similar probs, it would seem that userinit has different parts? reg keys ect. only part of the whole working userinit configuration or whatever seems to have been deleted, since reading others who have had it fail completely dont appear to be able to do anything with their comps. so wondering how i can go about finding out which part i need to replace/fix. looked in i386, and there is a userinit, but when i go to copy it over to sys32, says overwrite? i didnt, since i would assume that means that part is fine. any ideas on what i need to replace?
By mistake I unzipped some Microsoft Flight Simulator texture files to my desktop [from a safe site I have been using for years] instead of the intended FS04 folder. I deleted the files and cleared the recycle bin, the next time I turned on the system all the files were on the desktop again. I restored the system back a few days before the files were unzipped, no luck, the files reappear every time my computer is turned on.
On the quick launch toolbar, it comes with the Show Desktop icon. I deleted this not thinking I would need it.I tried to remove the quick launch bar through the task bar options, and I looked in Windows XP setup to see if it was sitting there.
After putting Dell E520 in sleep mode for a day. upon restart logged in and a desktop came up that looked like a default dell set-up some program icons were there but my desktop image was not. No folders. Nothing I had customized for me was there. It was as if all files and folders I created or saved were deleted with no trace left behind.went into BIOS cked around everything looked o.k then shut down and started up same thing again. After doing this twice Started up again and logging in normally Everything came back up all folders and files , my desktop image everything as I had left it 2 days ago , totally strange.
I was wondering if there is a way to point the Background page (Right click>Properties>Desktop) to another folder? The folder it is currently showing has pictures in it that I don't want set as a background, but there is another folder I have which I do want to be used. Edit:: I'm guessing there is just some .ini file somewhere that I need to alter, but I don't know where to start looking.
For some unknown reason, my Favorites Folder's Icon, (i.e. C:D& SUser's Name Favorites), has reverted from its' accustomed "Yellow Star" to a "Default" Windows' Folder. The same applies to to the Favorites Icon Shortcut on my Start Menu. The "Yellow Star" is present in C:D&SAdministratorFavorites; however, if I copy the Desktop.ini file from the Administrator folder to my user name, or simply attempt to customize it manually via the "Change Icon" method in "Properties", I still get nowhere.
