Sep 3, 2005i took my puter into pc world for a new driver and when it came out it appears a file full of photos has gone. they are not in the dustbin and they dont appear when i do system restore.

Lost Photos - Deleted Folder
Mar 20, 2005i deleted "my pictures" folder,which contained all my photos.I am running windows xp home editionsp2. Is there some program i can use to recover my photos? I cant replace some of them-and the recent ones were not backed up.

Dec 28, 2007This morning I wanted to make a back up cd of my documents and I burned it. After, I went into Picasa, where I HAD thousands of photos. Nearly all are gone! The "My Pictures" folder is also gone from "My Documents" on the hard drive, as is all the folders I had in "My Documents." The files seem to be on the cd, but I am not sure they are all there. WHY oh, WHY would the files and photos be GONE from my hard drive? How could just making a cd cause the files to disappear? I can't tell you what a tragedy this is! I had thousands of photos that I had edited and projects I had created. Dates that were with photos are gone, since all the dates now show today's date since that is when I burned the cd. As a possible troubleshooting thought--twice I have tried to start my computer and it has frozen at the "windows is starting up" screen, not even getting to the place where I put my password as an authorized user. Please help. I did try a restart and nothing had changed.

Dec 14, 2008I have Windows XP and have done this several times before, but this time I lost all of my photos. None of my other files were lost, only the pictures. I ran HP PC System Recovery, the non destructive version because some of my system files were missing. Problem solved on that, but now my photos are all gone. I looked at the hard drive space and I cannot remember what the exact amount was before, but it looks like I have about the same amount.

Feb 13, 2005Wile downloading photos from my camera I mistakenly overwrote existing pictures. When I open the folder as thumbnails the thumbnails show the original pictures, but when I open the file I get the new photo. Is there any way to retrieve the old files, or convert the thumbnail icons to useable images. The overwrite took place some time ago.

Mar 31, 2008I've reinstalled Windows XP SP2 on my old machine. After first restart it told me that there are problems with my D disk's file structure (Windows installation as default - on C disk). I let Windows to check and repair problems on D disk. It took about 30 mins. After done "fixing", windows restarted once more. And what i saw after, was a blank D disk. Almost 250GB of photos, documents, home-made movies and other unrecoverable priceless data were lost... A few hours later, when I calmed down, I've started to download and try variuos file recovery software. But none of it helped me to recover at least one lost file. After week of trying i gave up. I've tried variuos Windows apps, live CDs with recovery tools, Linux apps. None of those helped... So maybe someone has a solution for me, couse I don't know what to try anymore?

Dec 27, 2008I wanted to clean up little bit a HKCU - run, and i started to back up every single value separately but after 2nd I didn't notice that the whole run folder was highlighted so I confirmed a deletion and Oops - now the folder is gone. I tried to create a run folder under the selected HKCU but it keeps placin' a new folder under windows update tree. Any idea how can I save my system from re-install? Is there a way to restore this, I tried system restore but it says there is nothing to restore. I checked the recycle bin and it's not there. Any sugestion is welcome.

Mar 5, 2005I am having great difficulty with my current hard drive, a Maxtor 160GB 7200 drive. About a month ago, several folders began randomly turning into gibberish, and when I click on the folder, the amount of data listed is in the Gigabytes, instead of Megabytes. The corrupted folders could not be deleted, nor could the programs be removed. So, three weeks ago, I reinstalled Windows XP and re-formatted the partition on which these corrupted folders were located. For three weeks, things have been just fine. Today, however, when I tried to use Corel Quattro Pro, it would not work. Sure enough, the entire Corel folder has turned into unintelligible goo, and can not be deleted. At first, I thought a virus might be causing this random corruption. However, I now I suspect that this constitutes hard drive corruption, possibly early signs that hard drive failure is around the corner. One bit of information that I think I need to relay is that, in addition to Windows XP, I also run Windows 98 on this computer. None of the 7 partitions are over 20GB, however, so I wouldn't think that Windows 98 would have any trouble recognizing the data.
