Wile downloading photos from my camera I mistakenly overwrote existing pictures. When I open the folder as thumbnails the thumbnails show the original pictures, but when I open the file I get the new photo. Is there any way to retrieve the old files, or convert the thumbnail icons to useable images. The overwrite took place some time ago.
View 3 RepliesThis morning I wanted to make a back up cd of my documents and I burned it. After, I went into Picasa, where I HAD thousands of photos. Nearly all are gone! The "My Pictures" folder is also gone from "My Documents" on the hard drive, as is all the folders I had in "My Documents." The files seem to be on the cd, but I am not sure they are all there. WHY oh, WHY would the files and photos be GONE from my hard drive? How could just making a cd cause the files to disappear? I can't tell you what a tragedy this is! I had thousands of photos that I had edited and projects I had created. Dates that were with photos are gone, since all the dates now show today's date since that is when I burned the cd. As a possible troubleshooting thought--twice I have tried to start my computer and it has frozen at the "windows is starting up" screen, not even getting to the place where I put my password as an authorized user. Please help. I did try a restart and nothing had changed.

In "My Pictures" folder, I do not have the option of "Burn to CD" under "Picture Tasks". I was able to burn photos to CD, but I had to select "copy files" under "Files and folders" and then select my D Drive as the destination. Can someone please let me know why I don't have the "Burn to CD" option and how I can fix it.

I ran HP PC System Recovery, the non destructive version because some of my system files were missing. Problem solved on that, but now my photos are all gone. I looked at the hard drive space and I cannot remember what the exact amount was before, but it looks like I have about the same amount.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI have a Toshiba A105.with windows xp os. I got stupid this am and thought I would run my recovery disk. No real problems with the laptop I was just hoping to clear up outlook. I started the disk and remember I had pictures I had not copied to disk yet. are they gone forever or any chance I can get them back.I only ran disk a few minutes and canceled it. but computer will not start up i get a message NTLDR is missing. I would be more than willing to take it somewhere for repair if you think they can save the pictures if not I guess I will just put the disk back in and restore it.

I have my My Documents on my physical second D: drive while all my programs and the OS are on the C: drive. In the My Documents folder is the My Music, My Video, My Pictures folders that XP automatically assigns icons for and doesn't allow you to change the look of them.
I had been backing up this internal 60GB D:My Documents to an external 120GB USB drive. I decided to put the external one into the computer because I bought another external 160GB drive for backup.
OK, everything is fine, but the icons for My Music, My Video, My Pictures folders that XP automatically assigns are no more, they are just plain looking folders, but I can't customize them because these are the special folders that XP assigns for their specific use.
Does any one know what might have happened? Is it possible that the different serial number of the drive, or something else may have messed things up?
i need help to get back my pictures i had to do a system recovery in september i just now found out i could recover them but when i tried some of them have been overwritten is there any way that i can recover all of them i did try system restore but it is not letting me restore back please if there is someone out there who can help me i would greatly appreciate it the pictures are very important to me they are of my dad and brother who have both passed away
View 2 Replies View RelatedPentium 4, XP Pro, SP2I was always able to click on a photo or photo file folder and copy it to my CD Drive to put on a disk, in fact, copying photo files to a CD was an option that appeared in the menu. Today, I discovered it was no longer listed as an option feature and when I tried to copy a photo directly to the Drive, nothing happened. I have lost the ability to copy and save any of my files to a disk and I sure am perplexed and worried about what to do to save my files. I can't figured out how that option just up and disappeared on me.

(It was before the format).I have typed in "Export Pictures from CD to My Pictures folder" without the quotes and I get a list of links pertaining to CD recording errors and other things like that. I need to put them in a sequence so I right clicked each picture and re-named it as follows: 001jpg, 002jpg and so on for 100 pictures. In view, I selected arrange icons by modified and all the pictures moved to the sequence I wanted. All is well and good until I copied the folder to a CD. All the pictures reverted to their original sequence instead of the sequence I put them in.
How can I copy the folder with the pictures in the sequence I put them in? Whenever I open the picture file to look at that folder, they are always in the sequnce I put them in

After bios, a win 98 boot screen appears (very similar to a 98 boot floppy screen), asking to make a choice: safe mode is one, and when it is selected, it complains about not finding several windows files: C:windowshimem.sys, dblbuff.sys and ifshlp.sys. Is there a recovery mode for existing installations? Can I reinstall XP SP2 on top of the existing OS and have it preserve everything?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am going to be building a new rig sometime in the future and I have an existing install of XP on my current HDD. I plan on buying a new much larger HDD for a fresh install of XP with my new rig. Now I plan on keeping my old HDD but dont have anywhere to back up the data currently on it when I get my new rig.Once I get the OS intalled on the new drive I want to move the stuff I want to keep from my old drive to the new one then reformat the old drive to clear it all up. The new HDD will be a SATA while my old one is IDE, should I wait to plug in my old IDE HDD until after I get my OS intsalled on the new HDD? Or can I plug them both in and set the SATA drive to be the boot drive in BIOS and then do what I need to do with my old drive after installing the OS on the new drive? And lastly if I chose the former and intstall my old IDE drive after the OS on the new HDD will the fact that I have an existing OS install on the IDE drive mess anything up on the boot up after I install the old drive to move what I need to move to the new drive?

Instead of trashing the machine, I would like to just purchase an entirely new HD for this machine. I am guessing that when purchasing a new HD that it does NOT already come with an O/S already installed. If this guess is correct, my question is this:Can I use the original O/S Reinstallation CD that came with the machine to get the O/S installed on the new HD? ORDo I have to purchase the O/S along with the new internal HD? If more information is needed before an answer can be provided, please let me know what is needed.
