Lost The Option Feature Of Copying Pictures To Disk
Aug 3, 2006
Pentium 4, XP Pro, SP2I was always able to click on a photo or photo file folder and copy it to my CD Drive to put on a disk, in fact, copying photo files to a CD was an option that appeared in the menu. Today, I discovered it was no longer listed as an option feature and when I tried to copy a photo directly to the Drive, nothing happened. I have lost the ability to copy and save any of my files to a disk and I sure am perplexed and worried about what to do to save my files. I can't figured out how that option just up and disappeared on me.
I have a Toshiba A105.with windows xp os. I got stupid this am and thought I would run my recovery disk. No real problems with the laptop I was just hoping to clear up outlook. I started the disk and remember I had pictures I had not copied to disk yet. are they gone forever or any chance I can get them back.I only ran disk a few minutes and canceled it. but computer will not start up i get a message NTLDR is missing. I would be more than willing to take it somewhere for repair if you think they can save the pictures if not I guess I will just put the disk back in and restore it.
I've been using XP Pro for a few years now. However, on my last re-install I left off ACDSee and was just going to use XP's own settings for viewing photos. I'm now using SP2.I was certain that in the 'filmstrip' setting for photos there was a 'Zoom IN/OUT' option - am I wrong? I'm using TweakUI + TweakXP Pro 4, I've checked everywhere but I can't find anywhere that the zoom option has been unchecked? Is it there or can I enable it somehow?
I tried copying pictures from a folder in My Pictures onto a CD,but whenever I try it says "D:/ is not accessible incorrect function."I have the CD in there, but it won't write.
How to set up my screensaver so that it scrolls thru all my pictures in "my pictures" folder. I've done so, but there's quite a delay between pictures, it doesn't seem like it's showing pictures from the whole folder, sometimes the pictures are very small off to one corner, and in-between pictures the screen is blank for a bit and usually has a symbol on it such as a musical note, "exit", a figure running, etc. My friend seems to have hers set up the same way, but it doesn't have these problems. It just scrolls thru her pictures, one after the other, with the pictures taking up the whole screen.
Something I have presumably done recently (but I don't know what) means I can no longer pick up a picture from anywhere, using "right click on desktop / properties" to use as a desktop background. It USED to work, and I could pick up a picture from anywhere. Now when I select a picture from somewhere, and click to use it as a background, nothing happens.I can still apply a picture as a desktop background from (say) Picasa.I was fiddling (carefully, I thought) with "Tweakui" but have been back through it, and can't see anywhere I may have interfered with this function. Maybe I'm just not smart enough.
Wile downloading photos from my camera I mistakenly overwrote existing pictures. When I open the folder as thumbnails the thumbnails show the original pictures, but when I open the file I get the new photo. Is there any way to retrieve the old files, or convert the thumbnail icons to useable images. The overwrite took place some time ago.
This morning I wanted to make a back up cd of my documents and I burned it. After, I went into Picasa, where I HAD thousands of photos. Nearly all are gone! The "My Pictures" folder is also gone from "My Documents" on the hard drive, as is all the folders I had in "My Documents." The files seem to be on the cd, but I am not sure they are all there. WHY oh, WHY would the files and photos be GONE from my hard drive? How could just making a cd cause the files to disappear? I can't tell you what a tragedy this is! I had thousands of photos that I had edited and projects I had created. Dates that were with photos are gone, since all the dates now show today's date since that is when I burned the cd. As a possible troubleshooting thought--twice I have tried to start my computer and it has frozen at the "windows is starting up" screen, not even getting to the place where I put my password as an authorized user. Please help. I did try a restart and nothing had changed.
This is a bit weird and I have a feeling it's something that will have to be adjusted in the registry...
I have my My Documents on my physical second D: drive while all my programs and the OS are on the C: drive. In the My Documents folder is the My Music, My Video, My Pictures folders that XP automatically assigns icons for and doesn't allow you to change the look of them.
I had been backing up this internal 60GB D:My Documents to an external 120GB USB drive. I decided to put the external one into the computer because I bought another external 160GB drive for backup.
OK, everything is fine, but the icons for My Music, My Video, My Pictures folders that XP automatically assigns are no more, they are just plain looking folders, but I can't customize them because these are the special folders that XP assigns for their specific use.
Does any one know what might have happened? Is it possible that the different serial number of the drive, or something else may have messed things up?
i need help to get back my pictures i had to do a system recovery in september i just now found out i could recover them but when i tried some of them have been overwritten is there any way that i can recover all of them i did try system restore but it is not letting me restore back please if there is someone out there who can help me i would greatly appreciate it the pictures are very important to me they are of my dad and brother who have both passed away
I recently reset my pc and re-installed windows, and now i have, when i get the shut down menu up, i lost the option to hibernate my pc, which i used alot.
For some reason-probably something I did-I lost the option to send to my desktop when I right click a file/object/etc.I can send to mail recipient, mydocs, pocketpc, webpub. and A and E drive but have no option for desktop. How does one get that option back and/or add options under send to?
When I right click on any folder or subfolder, I get the usual send to options (desktop, email recipient etc.). However, if I click on a file within any of these folders, the send to option is blank. I have been "playing around" with folder and file permissions to solve a problem related to sending files over my home network. I just can't seem to get the right combination of permissions to have the send to option work for all folders and files.I run XP Home (SP2) up to date with all security updates. Two screen shots are attached; the first shows the advanced security settings for a folder for which the right click/send to works.
I was changing something in the shell extensions using shellexview to make my right click menus faster. But i accidentally deleted the option to make a new file (like by right clicking in a windows explorer area). How can i get this back?
I am encountering this error when copying a large number of files from one external hard drive to another. I have Windows XP. A number of files will copy prior to the error occurring. The error occurs when the copying process reaches a file that my Trend Micro security software had identified as a virus and had quarantined. Instead of simply skipping the file that cannot be copied and moving to the next, Windows Explorer displays the error "Error copying file: cannot read from source or disk" and aborts the copying process, leaving the copying process only partially complete. Copying each folder or file individually to avoid encountering the error would be very time consuming.
I have a Windowa XP laptop by Gateway, when I copy DVD's everything I do on my computer gets very slow.Is there anything that I can do to speed up computer so that I can run other programs at the same time?
I use the standard picture handling feature that came with XP-Home on my computer in 2002. When flagging a picture and clicking on 'Email This File', I used to be given the option to reduce the picture size for the email. This size-reduction option disappeared some months ago but I wasn't too bothered as my file sizes were quite small anyway. However it's a real nuisance now that I take/file all photos at maximum resolution. Before I email a picture, especially to someone on dial-up, I now have to open Photoshop Elements and reduce the file size
At startup Windows XP always suggested to run disk check and after I let it the whole partirion(most of it) is unreadable. The files are there but they are simply unreadable. For instance, I cannot open pictures or open MP3s. Like the content of the files has been messes up
I have run a windows repair twice, and no luck either time. After the first repair the computer worked fine, until I installed SP2, and lost the taskbar, and couldn't fix that (you can view that thread here: http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt...tart-menu.html. After the recent repair everything went fine until I tried to install SP2 again. I will start the computer, and windows will load. Everything is fine until the login screen appears (windows XP home ed.). The screen lasts for about 1.5 seconds and then it goes BSOD.
When I go to disk management and right click on the c drive,I do not get the option to add a partition.I disconnected from the wireless network same negative result. Started in safe mode and signed on as administrator and still could not create another partition.
I am running XP SP2 and when I try to run Disk Cleanup (from menu or command prompt) I immediately get a popup telling me "Disk Space Cleanup Manager for Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close" with the option to send and error report to Microsoft. This started happening after I added additional memory to my PC. I am not having any problems with other programs. I successfully ran a Disk Cleanup late last week. I tried removing the VolumeCaches entry from the registry and that did not fix the problem.
I have a 4600 dimension , not sure how this is. but when the system boots up it gives the dell logo screen f-2 & f-12 deal then it comes up please select the operating system to start, both options are microsoft windows XP Home Edition, how do I get this thing to skip this screen and just boot up? What would of been done to cause this? as there are 2 listings and if I arrow down to the second one to tell it to start from it , this comes up.Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem,Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware. Please check the windows documentation about hardware disk configuration and your hardware reference manuals for additional information.
I want to put the pictures that I saved from the My Pictures folder back to the My Pictures folder. I have set one of them as the new desktop background. (It was before the format).I have typed in "Export Pictures from CD to My Pictures folder" without the quotes and I get a list of links pertaining to CD recording errors and other things like that. I did right click on a picture in Drive E (my CD-RW) just to see what would come up and I noticed that on the Send To menu that these pictures can be sent to the desktop.
I'm using XP Home with SP2. When I Look at the properties of the C: drive, it says I have used approx 55GB with 19GB left. The Defrag utility says the same. However, when I look at all the space used in all the directories on C: I appear only to have used about 25GB, which is actually more like what I think I'm using. Can anyone please point me to what might be using up the huge amount of extra space - it's a hell of a lot to go missing and I'd like to retrieve it.
After I did a reinstall of windows xp, I could no longer access one of my disks. It is a dynamic disk, and come up as "unreadable" in the disk management tool of windows. after previous reinstalls of xp I seem to recall to get the option to import the disk, but all I get now is the option to change it to a basic disk, which will in turn erase all my data. If anyone could help me with tips on how to access my disk again without losing data, I'd most appreciate it. Or alternatively tell me where I can find a program to pull the data off the disk before I make it basic.
