I use the standard picture handling feature that came with XP-Home on my computer in 2002. When flagging a picture and clicking on 'Email This File', I used to be given the option to reduce the picture size for the email. This size-reduction option disappeared some months ago but I wasn't too bothered as my file sizes were quite small anyway. However it's a real nuisance now that I take/file all photos at maximum resolution. Before I email a picture, especially to someone on dial-up, I now have to open Photoshop Elements and reduce the file size
I seem to be getting more little boxes with a Red X in them when on the internet than I ever did before. When I right click on the X and click the 'show picture option' in the popup nothing happens on basement computer which has a new hard drive and WXP-Pro SP2. Rarely happens on upstairs computer or laptop and right clicking usually brings up the pic. I am asking 'where to look for what could be causing this'.
I have Windows XP 2000, Dell Demension 2400 PC, I want to put pictures on websites, but my pictures (KB) are to large. How do I reduce them so I can post?
I used to be able to go into Start menu and My Pictures in XP and select a picture and click on "email this file" and it would give me an option to "make picture smaller" or leave it the same size, and having chosen to make it smaller it would attach the smaller picture into Outlook Express and voila!I have not got this option box anymore! Can anyone tell me why I have lost this facility? When I click email this picture, it does slightly reduce the size, but not enough - like previously small, medium or large.

I heard that the paging file should always be 1.5x the amount of RAM that is available on the machine. My initial size of the paging file is set to around 2GB and I was wondering if I should change the initial size to 3GB or put it to 'System managed size'?
When I put a dvd in the dvd-player for a game or anything, it used to autostart that dvd. But suddenly, it doesn't autostart anymore. I have to start it manually, by clicking the drive and choosing "autorun". It is the same for other drives as well, such as cd-rom drive. How do I fix this?if it's possible, I would like not to install any programs. So are there any configurations or properties I can check?
When I right click a file to view it's properties there are two different values shown: one for file "size" and the other for "size on disk". The second value is always larger. Could someone please explain what the difference is because I'm in the process of allocating space for backed up user data on a network share and I need to multiply the average file size by the number of users to get an estimate of how much space to allocate to that share.
I recently reset my pc and re-installed windows, and now i have, when i get the shut down menu up, i lost the option to hibernate my pc, which i used alot.
For some reason-probably something I did-I lost the option to send to my desktop when I right click a file/object/etc.I can send to mail recipient, mydocs, pocketpc, webpub. and A and E drive but have no option for desktop. How does one get that option back and/or add options under send to?
When I right click on any folder or subfolder, I get the usual send to options (desktop, email recipient etc.). However, if I click on a file within any of these folders, the send to option is blank. I have been "playing around" with folder and file permissions to solve a problem related to sending files over my home network. I just can't seem to get the right combination of permissions to have the send to option work for all folders and files.I run XP Home (SP2) up to date with all security updates. Two screen shots are attached; the first shows the advanced security settings for a folder for which the right click/send to works.
I was changing something in the shell extensions using shellexview to make my right click menus faster. But i accidentally deleted the option to make a new file (like by right clicking in a windows explorer area). How can i get this back?
Pentium 4, XP Pro, SP2I was always able to click on a photo or photo file folder and copy it to my CD Drive to put on a disk, in fact, copying photo files to a CD was an option that appeared in the menu. Today, I discovered it was no longer listed as an option feature and when I tried to copy a photo directly to the Drive, nothing happened. I have lost the ability to copy and save any of my files to a disk and I sure am perplexed and worried about what to do to save my files. I can't figured out how that option just up and disappeared on me.
I keep my pictures in a CD-ROM. I transferred some of them to my hard drive and started editing them using PaintShop 9. When I tried to save them a message showed up saying:Quote Could not save file because it is marked Read only. Chane the "read only" attribute" using Windows Explorer. UnQuote How should I do that?

Anytime I try to access a picture or a music file from my external hd I get this error (I'm running XP). When in safe mode I do not get the error. Help would be greatly appreciated. I'll post a logfile from a hijackthis scan in a second.

I now find that all of my pictures saved show the name plus .jpg If I try to rename them a arning box comes up saying that the picture might become unusable if I delete the file extension. What can I do to only show the picture name.
My operating system is Windows XP. Everytime I open up a file extension of .JPG it opens up in Paint Shop Pro. I don't know Paint Shop Pro yet to be able to work in it. Is there anyway I can change the file extension of JPG to open up with Microsoft Picture Manager? If so, can you please map out the steps I need to take to change the file extension?
Sometimes I will highlight a range of photo files and open them into Picture and Fax viewer. I can then page through all the photos I selected. Occasionally though, I will load a range of photos into the viewer and photos from outside the range I selected get loaded into the viewer. When this has happened, I've gone back and reselected the range and tried it again and still get pictures loading from outside the range I wanted. Also, I notice on the viewer's print wizard that pictures/documents from outside my range of selected documents are sometimes presented for printing. Anyone know how that happens and how do you fix it?

Is there anyway, a java script, anything that will tell me what the name of someone's active .pst file is and what the size of the .pst file is? I am looking for something to send to someone and they will run it on their machine and then send me the info without having to walk them through the process. I am not looking to "steal" this oinfo so it can be something the other person executes.
I lost a file from my file server yesterday that was extremely important by accidentally deleting it when on my local computer. I am running win2k. Is there any I can tell the file to go to the recycle bin when they are deleted
A few days ago some security files were downloaded in my sys (WinXP Home with SP2) as part of the MS Auto Updates out of which one security file KB 923980 also downloaded and installed. But in spite of such insrallation, this particular file keeps coming into the Notifn. Area of the Task bar and on placing my cursor over it, I find that it is insisting to be installed again manually.
Is it possible for someone to create a batch file for me that will enable the num-lock key to enable at bootup of XP Pro, I found out how to do it in the registry, but its something that ive been looking for now for quite sometime. I hate having to install misc. progys to do stupid things like this too.
To silverduck441: The Paging File is Windows virtual RAM, and generally it is about 1.5 times the total RAM. Go to Contol Panel/System on the Advanced page, go to Perfomance and then Settings. Select "For best performance, do not set the initial size to less than the minimum recommended size under Total paging file size for all drives. The recommended size is equivalent to 1.5 times the amount of RAM on your system. Usually, you should leave the paging file at its recommended size, although you might increase its size if you routinely use programs that require a lot of memory". If you get this problem often, the answer may be to increase the settings in the virtual RAM settings manually and/or buy more RAM
