when I started my computer this morning it was stuck on the start up screen where it says windows like it kept showing the bars moving for like a long time. So I just turned it off by pressing the power button (wrong I know). Then I turned it back on and it went to a black screen giving me the options to run it in safe mode, start it from the last known date it was working, or start it normally.

View 4 Replies View RelatedFor the last couple of days, while my computer plays anything from the CD drive with sound, occasionally the sound just stops for a couple of seconds, then comes back, where it should be a few seconds later, as if it has been playing all along, and I just turned off my speakers. Also, maby un-related, but maby not, I cannot compleat a diskcheck. It gets stuck at 0% on the second stage if you ask it to do one as the computer turnes on.
View 8 Replies View RelatedIn need of some major help, whenever i load up my computer everything loads up fine untill i get to the status bar screen which just loops and loops over and over again and nothing happens from that point onwards not only that but it knocks out all my devices i.e keyboard, mouse etc. I can open it in safe mode no problem and in this i have done numerous system restores. If i leave my computer off or idle for about 12 hours it worls again after that but about 2-4 days later the problem happens again this has happened aprox 7 times now. View 7 Replies View RelatedAfter uninstalling a number of suspect programs, I ran my anti stuff, AdAware SE, Ewido, Spybot, Ccleaner, AVG, Stinger, CWShredder and Housecall. Got rid of a lot of Trojans & spyware. There is still a suspect, something called DMVLite, cant seem to uninstall this one. Google search only led me to do an HJT log. Not to sure I want to do that.I also tried to uninstall a program called DVD Sentry, but it said the Windows Installer 3.1 was missing.
Maybe most important issue. Ran Belarc, said it is missing 40 critical updates ! There is a Windows Update Shield that says it has a download to install. KB888162,it detects if SP2 is properly installed, it is NOT.Wants me to uninstall SP2. When I go to uninstall, I get all these, cannot copy files.My question is, is it OK to click cancel on these cannot copy, since I cant seem to do anything else anyway.
I've been trying to help a friend who has a computer that is horribly infested with virus and malware. My friend had no recovery partition or any type of Windows CD. After downloading and running Spybot and Avira Antivirus the computer began to run much better. Everytime the computer would startup, Avira found a virus called "Winlogin.exe". I tried the "Quarantine" option but it kept popping up. Eventually I just clicked "Rename". Now when starting the computer it loads the Bios and goes to the XP boot screen - and then restarts - over and over and over. I've tried booting in safe mode - same thing.

I have a set of USB ports on the front of my machine and another set on the back. My ports on the back work fine and if i plug in my 2 pen drives in it works OK. But if I plug them in the front I get the error

The ports on the front work OK with my digital camera and joystick and my pen drive works on every other machine that I have put it in.
Recently i downloaded a program for msn called 'CE/DP STEALER. After i downloaded it , it didnt seem to be working correctly, so i uninstalled it and all of its adds. , now my problem is that the 'CE/DP STEALER' has left loads of past items on my customise notifications. what i mean by this is that when you right click on the taskbar, and then click properties, i go to the taskbar tab, and then i click on customise.I see that

when I try to start puter first the mouse dont work any more. I had a Logitech MX 510. IT lights up but wont work. Installed a Radio shack mouse worked for a little it. Then it shuts down too. I try to start computer and tap on F8 key or DEL key sometimes it works an sometimes not if it works I am good for a little bit. 15min to 30 min then lock up. If i get into safe mode its ok until about the same 15min to 30 min. If F8 and DEL keys dont work It starts the process and then gets to floppy disk and fails. It say Floppy Disk Fail (40). I have checked and the fans are working and thats not a problem Hard drives work and 1.5 GB ram and thats ok too. So stumped and wondering if I can fix it or not.

When I'm logged on locally as the administrator on this machine the scanner works fine when i try to scan using the hp solution center to scan the documents. But when i log on to the domain and try scanning using the solution center or even adobe photoshop or any other software it just will not scan and it tells me to reinstall the drivers of the scanner. The printer works fine. Just the scanner does not work.

When I start up Windows XP SP2, I get an error message telling me that "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close." In addition iexplore.exe starts up in the task manager on every startup, without the browser launching and my baseline RAM usage is 80MB or so higher than normal. Now I have blocked iexplore.exe with my firewall, I have scanned my computer with Norton internet security 2007, Spybot S&D, Adaware SE and I have deleted the .exe file from which the infection originated. Unfortunately, though some minor infections were discovered, the problem at hand remains unresolved. MSConfig does not show anything about iexplore.exe opening up on startup., or any other program I do not want for that matter. I am at my wits end, and I hope someone here can figure out what I cannot....

Just USB driver, modem is connected by the USB cable and sometimes I can hear this sound in winXP that its disconnected and connected again(the sound you get when you unplug/plug in a USB device). After a while of plugging /unplugging, my internet connection just disappears.
