I made the mistake of installing the "latest" MB drivers on my MSI Platinum motherboard. MS WIN XP seems to have a spyware program that detects thse changes and asked me to "re-register" my OEM software. Since I did not have my network connection up, I attempted to do it on the telephone. And because I am at least semi-honest, I let it slip that I had installed my copy of XP on two personal computers. After getting the MS Lecture (Thou shalt not use a single license on more than one PC), I was switched to another person who offered me a second license for a mere $184 US. I reluctantly agreed. He tried three times to enter my OEM XP disc's numbers into the re-authorization system and failed.

I have this problem where I was not able to send or receive using Microsoft Fax (for WinXP and 2000). I'm using a GPRS modem which I have got working for other fax softwares like Symantec and MightyFax. I was able to establish a connection but was not able to send or receive. I can hear the ringing sound from the remote fax machine I was dialing but no fax was received there. Error message is "An error occurred while sending/receiving fax". For Win2000, I was only able to send but even then, the fax was not clear.

Should be receiving a new Intel core 2 cpu, new ram and new board tomorrow.Was planning on doing a clean windows install once i have put them into my computer. I'm pretty certain my Norton ghost image will be useless now as it was for old cpu and motherboard. It had sp2 and some other updates. But when i do a clean install i won't be able to get any updates from Microsoft because my xp is not genuine and they have this new genuine key check thing that stops updates. Is this gonna be a problem for my new setup. If it is i'm gonna have to make do 4 a bit. But will get a genuine xp if it is necessary? normally have zone alarm which i think fixes some security issues, but i just wanna know if the hardware will work correctly,say only having one core working.

Recently my laptop (windows XP home edition) had been having problem with Microsoft Management Console. When I double click on mmc.exe nothing happen and there is also no error message. Because of this I can't start any of the *.msc files

i cant download anything from Windows Microsoft website, however i get "Updates" regularly.
I'm using IE when i go to the sites, but the ActiveX? Script does not happen ,and i cannot use the Genuine Windows thing.
I Recieved my copy from windows through Dell, and it worked at first fine, but then it just.. stopped. I Had this issue on my previous computer

I have a "Shadow Star Icon" from a Microsoft website informing me that Microsoft is unable to validate my operating system. It launches everytime I start the computer and several times throughout the day. At startup the computer will not get to the home screen without making a selection of whether to correct now or later. It offers me the opportunity to "purchase validation." Everything on my computer is legitemate. I've looked in the System Configuration Utility (msconfig.exe) startup and services and don't recognize it. I have a HP Pavilion a647c, w/Windows XP. This is the site that it directs me too:If you scroll to the 3rd section of the webpage you will see the "star" that I refrenced earlier. Bottom line is I don't know if this is for real.

Iam anable to open any MS websites either with IE7 or FireFox. Able to open other websites. I have tried adding "s"to the "http"protocol,but no luck. Then went to internet options and unticked the "tsl"option in Advanced tab,again no luck! Thus iam not able to manually download updates.The XP pro has SP2 and SP3 installed. All the drivers are in place.To add to my woes ,SAS PRO and MBAM are not getting updates too!To survive i have installed AVG 8 Anti-virus and it too is not getting updated! I have turned off the windows firewall and the Comodo Firewall Pro. The KIS 2009 disk is not installing as it is not being accessed by the dvd drive( please see my post in "General security"). When i run the diagnostic tool--i get the message that the PC is unable to access the FTP and the http and https are fine!Please ask for any further info' which i've failed to mention

I am unable to open any hyperlink or any website that is contained in my microsoft outlook email.I get the following error messages.
"Windows cannot open this file. Windows needs to know what program created it"
It gives me two choices: 1. use the web to find the program that created it or 2. select from a list. None of these options work. I hope that someone can help solve this problem as I am now unable to open any link or web contained in the email.

I got a new system Pentium 4 3GHz CPU, 1GB RAM, 800MHz FSB with windows XP Professional, Office 2003 that replaces Pentium 3 300MHz 128MB RAM. I was sohappy because I do not need to use Virtual memory any more and windows xpboots up in a minute. I started installing all the development applicationsin the news system
I ran setup.exe to install Visual Studio 6.0 using DVD. It crashed. I thought DVD is bad or corrupted and used some other CD. Still Visual Studio6.0 installation wizard is crashing. When it crashed, a dialog box comes upand asks whether I can send report to Microsoft or debug. I sent report to Microsoft. Nothing happend more than that. I tried to debug using visualstudio .net. It gives the following error message.

After installing and running MSE I have been unable to update definitions either manually or automatically. At the same time I noticed that microsoft automatic updates are getting to around 28 percent and then stopping - not fully downloading or installing. I cannot get through to any microsoft websites now - but all other sites are fine. wuauserv and bits are missing from services also. Have I been sneakily virused by something which MSE hasnt picked up. I tried to run malicious software removal tool - it downloads alright but wont install - says its not a valid win32 application. I correctly downloaded the 32bit app. Can anyone shed some light on any of this. I dont want to rebuild again and again.

I know that may seem like a relatively obvious question however I was hoping to flush out some details from people with more experience than I possess.I was told that if you have a retail copy of XP pro, if you stop using old machine and buy a new 1 then you can transfer your license across. I however purchased an OEM copy of XP pro about 4 years for my old laptop. I have not used it in a few years and was hoping that if I make a new computer I can use my old key. I am pretty sure when I try to activate it that it will say the key is no good and to call their help number but what details are stored on their system? If I say that I have simply formatted my old machine and are doing a new install will I then be able to use the code they give me for my new machine or is the code somehow 'locked' to the CPU number or something? If any1 has any experience migrating a license across then please advise me. I do not wish to use a pirated copy and will buy a new license if needed but hope that it is not neccesary since I paid for this license and I am happy to format my old machine and not use it again.

I cannot get it to come up at all. I tried everything and I'm now looking at reloading Windows. I have all the software that came with it, and I have a copy of XP home, but I can't find anything with the license key information. The F10 recovery does not work. F8 does not work. I cannot get Windows to load at all. Does anyone know how I can find out what the license key is? Will HP give me that info? I can call them..but I just hate talking with their tech support.

i have windows XP home edition service pack 3. and i use Microsoft office 2003, and well recently it began to pop up and say microsoft office word has not been installed for current user. please run setup utility. Well i only have one user, never had another user created until recently (temporary fix) is there anything i can do, the main user is called the owner, it says its the computer admin, but i guess there is still an admin user, i cant get to that. the only way i can get ms office to work was to create a new user, open all the office programs, export the office registry, and import it to my main user, thats the only thing that works, for a little bit.

so my Mom bought an HP pc about a year ago, she doesn't seem very bothered, but my brother and I are constantly finding problems. so we've been talking about reinstalling the system with a regular xp home edition,but will her license code from mediacenter go in home? we don't want to install home just to find out that it wont work, but we don't want media center edition either!

What is a Windows XP license? Does one really exist? All the latest oem versions are now supplied in boxes, and in the box is a leaflet which states that the sticker for the pc is not the licence, but is to help the end user to determine whether or not the installation is genuine & not pirated.

I found that SBS has a 1 time deal to use the key, and then even if installing on the same machine, you have to call to get a new key. I wrote down the key and wonder if I can reactivate a reinstall using the same key. I am hoping I do not need to do a scratch install, but if I do, I dont want to have to call the indians if I dont need to.

After installing a windows xp in a system it shows an icon at the bottom of the task bar to activate with the license key and and we can activate it by using the license key and this is one way but instead of activating it by using that icon is there any other way to activate the windows xp internally with the license key.

It contains Access Control Entries with permissions that are
invalid. The requested action was therefore not performed. This security permission can be corrected using the Component Services administrative tool."And also the Microsoft Genuine "told" me that my license key is not valid. Is there any possibilities to set up both problems without reinstalling Windows XP with completely new copy.
