I am about to leave a company. I will need to return their laptop, I would like to scrub all traces of my internet searches.I have admin access on this laptop but do not know how to make sure all traces of my searches have been removed and can not be retrieved.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI've already disabled access to it, and removed it using the add/remove windows components functions, but IE is still used in Windows Update (I'm told) and Hotmail (I've seen), also in pop-ups from adware, but that isn't much of a problem for me because I don't get adware.Anyways, seeing as I have no desire to ever have windows update run on my computer at any point in time, and I would rather hotmail use my default browser (firefox) to open sites, is there any way to further remove IE beyond what I have done?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI had BIG problems with a printer/scanner all-in-one and have decided to remove any programs associated with it (HP C4180 Photosmart All-in-One). I even at one point took the printer/scanner and my laptop back to Staples to see if they could load the Printer/Scanner and they indicated that there was nothing wrong with my drivers and want me to bring it in today to do a diagnostic check (Darn, $40.00 and that is just to see what the problem is) then whatever it costs to fix it. At that time they also advised me that my system was running quite slow. I thought I had removed everything associated with HP and now I noticed that I have all these files under "Temp Files" on my system. I did a Disc Clean-up, making sure that "Temp Files was checked but they don't seem to want to be removed. Attached is a copy of what is on my system. Maybe you know of a fix to remove anything associated with HP??....
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a WD 250gb external HD, i have since switched to a mac and still want to use this HD.however there are 3 files on this drive that seem to be microsoft updates, not sure how they ended up on this drive....i did not place them there....id imagine it was thru one of the many microsoft auto updates i want to try and delete these files, but i get an error saying that i either dont have authority to delete these files , or they are currently in use. they are two folders that are 0 bytes....and have long random numeric and alpha titles such as e7e4e1d6bbb6349...etc.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWe've just purchased a new monitor for out PC with a better resolution than our previous one. Basically, my dad wants to have his user account set at 1280x768, whereas I want to use the best resolution of the monitor which is 1440x900.
On the previous monitor, I seemed to be able to make it so that different user accounts could have their own resolutions. However, when I've tried changing the resolution in my dad's account, when I go back to my account, it is set as my dad's resolution. If I change it back to mine, then my dad's account changes to mine too.
Is there a way I can make it so that each account can have their own resolution set?
installed a file manager for his mobile phone and it's put a folder on the desktop which I cannot seem to remove. I right click it but there is no delete option for it. Even when I open it, I can't find any options to remove it either. Does any one have any idea as to how I might be able to remove this folder from my desktop? It's appeared on all user accounts

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy laptop died and I removed the hard drive.I hooked the hard drive up to my new laptop via a SATA/IDE cable.I can see the old hard drive in the E drive and it appears that all the contents are there by the size of the hard drive (same as when I had it in the old laptop) but I can only see, actually view, a very small percentage of the drive. My goal: I want to transfer all old music, word documents and photos from old laptop into new laptop.

We have the router downstairs, when i am sitting next to it, it's slower than the PC upstairs I'm typing this on! It's recent, with no hardware changes. And at least 1 PC on the network works fine.it's taking over 200s to load expedia.nl, but then engadget.com only takes 10-40s.it's really unreliable and main pages will load (slowly) but clicking on links yields nothing.It's not bandwidth issues either, we have a 3mb connection, and the problems are the same no matter the usage.The speed on the laptop is just so unreliable.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThere are many files listed in this folder. I am unable to delete them. When I go to this directory in safe mode command prompt there are no files. I even used dir /A:H to included hidden files and there are none. But I can still see them in Windows XP PRO. I have Norton 360 and it did not find any viruses. Went I try to delete them windows gives no errors. Some of the files even have the same name and extension. Is there a cache or a temp file I need to delete first?
View 5 Replies View RelatedEverytime I turn on my laptop the wireless network connection thingy in the lower right hand tool bar has a big red x on it. Yet, I can connect to the internet. Would anyone know why this does this? I have tried going to "Wireless Network Connection Properties" and then "Wireless Networks" and actually removed my router name. I then reboot my computer, am asked for network key, enter it, and when I restart my computer the same thing happens. This is not a real "problem" but it certainly is very annoying.

View 7 Replies View RelatedAs fate would have it, the warranty expired on the 15th of July - The computer is a Dell Inspiron laptop - running windows XP. After being left online overnight in a hotel with wireless internet it locked up. Currently we get different results (but all results end in a lock up at the windows screen) - usually it comes up with a screen saying "we apologize for the inconvenience, but windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this" (no new hardware or software was installed prior to lockup) It gives you options to try to start - (I can't remember what all it said - but safe mode was a choice and going back to a prior time was a choice) Usually it is just locked up and you can't click on anything.
Once I did get it to go to safe mode and I tried to do a system restore - It did go through all the motions of doing a system restore - but when rebooted - the same "we apologize" error was there - WHen I can click on a starting option it goes to the windows screen - the blue line runs for a few seconds - then it just locks up. Dell wants a small fortune to help me over the phone. This is my son's college computer. I was thinking he probably picked up a virus when he was online in the hotel. Is that possible? It has let me get into set up by pressing F2 during boot - but I have no idea what to do there (if anything) F12 is another option it gives - but it wont do anything when I push that.
windows 2000 pro, seems to run ok until you try to get on the internet. you can get around on it ok going to control panel you can download programs etc but the min you plug in a network cable you really even need to doubleclick on the internet if you wait a few seconds after you plug in the network cable right away a blue box pops up with this stop error Stop 0x0000001E (0xC0000005) and then three more sets of all zero's

Does anyone know how I can transfer my files from my desktop computer to my laptop without having to take the long way around by making a million CDs? My desktop seems to be on its last leg with all the error messages and since it won't let me download any upgrades without the oriignal disc, which I cannot find, it has not been been updated in a while. So, I want to move everything over to my laptop.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have one laptop that has been corrupted and will no longer boot. I have since removed the HD and place it in an USB enclosure. I have connected it to another Laptop running xp and have no problem viewing the contents of the drive.
At first I was unable to access the administrators documents, but after booting in safe mode, I changed ownership of the entire drive. At this point I am able to access every folder though I can not open any of the files.
