If I leave my laptop (wireless) unattended for more than 15 minutes.when I come back to it the internet will not work.I shutdown and restart and everything is fine.(I've run up to date Norton and Adware and it finds nothing wrong or nothing showing up).

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm having problems with accessing internet on my laptop, on our home wireless network.It's so slow! We have the router downstairs, when i am sitting next to it, it's slower than the PC upstairs I'm typing this on! It's recent, with no hardware changes. And at least 1 PC on the network works fine.it's taking over 200s to load expedia.nl, but then engadget.com only takes 10-40s.it's really unreliable and main pages will load (slowly) but clicking on links yields nothing.It's not bandwidth issues either, we have a 3mb connection, and the problems are the same no matter the usage.The speed on the laptop is just so unreliable.

View 11 Replies View RelatedEverytime I turn on my laptop the wireless network connection thingy in the lower right hand tool bar has a big red x on it. Yet, I can connect to the internet. Would anyone know why this does this? I have tried going to "Wireless Network Connection Properties" and then "Wireless Networks" and actually removed my router name. I then reboot my computer, am asked for network key, enter it, and when I restart my computer the same thing happens. This is not a real "problem" but it certainly is very annoying.

View 7 Replies View RelatedAs fate would have it, the warranty expired on the 15th of July - The computer is a Dell Inspiron laptop - running windows XP. After being left online overnight in a hotel with wireless internet it locked up. Currently we get different results (but all results end in a lock up at the windows screen) - usually it comes up with a screen saying "we apologize for the inconvenience, but windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this" (no new hardware or software was installed prior to lockup) It gives you options to try to start - (I can't remember what all it said - but safe mode was a choice and going back to a prior time was a choice) Usually it is just locked up and you can't click on anything.
Once I did get it to go to safe mode and I tried to do a system restore - It did go through all the motions of doing a system restore - but when rebooted - the same "we apologize" error was there - WHen I can click on a starting option it goes to the windows screen - the blue line runs for a few seconds - then it just locks up. Dell wants a small fortune to help me over the phone. This is my son's college computer. I was thinking he probably picked up a virus when he was online in the hotel. Is that possible? It has let me get into set up by pressing F2 during boot - but I have no idea what to do there (if anything) F12 is another option it gives - but it wont do anything when I push that.
windows 2000 pro, seems to run ok until you try to get on the internet. you can get around on it ok going to control panel you can download programs etc but the min you plug in a network cable you really even need to doubleclick on the internet if you wait a few seconds after you plug in the network cable right away a blue box pops up with this stop error Stop 0x0000001E (0xC0000005) and then three more sets of all zero's

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy laptop died and I removed the hard drive.I hooked the hard drive up to my new laptop via a SATA/IDE cable.I can see the old hard drive in the E drive and it appears that all the contents are there by the size of the hard drive (same as when I had it in the old laptop) but I can only see, actually view, a very small percentage of the drive. My goal: I want to transfer all old music, word documents and photos from old laptop into new laptop.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter long periods of my internet connection being idle (2+ hours usually), all programs requiring internet access are unable to connect. By idle I mean I leave to run some errands with no programs other than Zone Alarm running. My DSL modem still has all lights flashing and active. There are a couple other scenarios where this occurs as well. Ex. I'm playing WoW for extended periods but not using the internet through any other program, then upon alt-tabbing no other applications are able to connect to the internet even though WoW is still connected and functioning. Rebooting the router/modem doesn't fix it, but rebooting the comp does.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a number of XP computers (all SP2) connected to the Net via a wireless modem/router. Everything was fine until a few days ago when my connection speed dramatically slowed after being online for a few hours. This happens to all of the PCs in my home - so it's nothing internal to my PC. I tried to transfer a large file across the wireless network and it transferred fine (5Mb in 10 seconds). I can also connect to the router's web management software without problem. So it's not the wireless connection. Which leaves either my modem/router or my broadband connection. The router's "DSL" light is always on which infers that my broadband connection is OK. So that leaves my modem/router.
My users are unable to access the internet via Internet Explorer 7.With Firefox and changes in the proxy it works good, however, unable to access with Internet Explorer.
I'm thinking maybe the user's profile has problem.However, after deleting the user's profile and have her logged in to create a new profile, it still would not work.
How come it works with Firefox but not with Internet Explorer?

It will not update anti virus (free AVG) or connect with Firefox or Netscape. The firewall is not blocking. I checked all admin service permissions and can't find any problems. the problem that I get is that I keep getting a getting that pops up in stead of going directly to the MSN page.I keep getting ( Privacy violation 408HTA Warning ) getting that keeps opening up and I can't get it off my computer It is an advertisement to buy some sort of spyware software.
A friend of mine installed the Mozilla browser and I didnt like it so I uninstalled it. Anyways to make a long story short..Since then,In the address bar (ie icon), and all my internet links (internet shortcuts) show as an unassigned file type now. So for instance if I drag an http link from my browser to my desktop...it does not show as an ie link anymore (just a random file type). So when I right click my internet links and say "open with" internet explorer it works. However...when I select the check box "always open with this program" it will not change all of my internet shortcuts appear with the "IE" icon like it should
