View 1 RepliesOn one of my laptops I keep losing my internet connection. In Network Connections, when I right-click and look at the properties, this laptop only has general & advance tabs and on my other one has the wireless network tab. I was told to go in to SERVICES.MSC and start the Wireless Zero Configuration service. Well, this did work, but they said when I reboot it wouldn't remember it and I would have to do this all over again.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI unfortunately had to reinstall windows onto my laptop (dell inspiron 1520). However, a windows disk didn't come with the computer so I used the one that came with my desktop (dell xps 400). It's running fine and all that jazz but I am clueless on how to set up my wireless connection. When I first bought the computer the first time I opened it it automatically picked up the wireless connection and all I had to do is type in a password and such. Now I guess I'm starting from scratch... There's no webcam software on it or anything like it came with. The resolution doesnt even fit the same after adjusting it. (It's close but still a little stretched out)
View 6 Replies View RelatedI reinstalled windows xp sp3 on a old laptop. Everything went fine except for internet connectivity. I have a wireless network to which I connect several computers and devices and everything works like it should. When I try to connect my laptop to this network, it fails.Every 5 seconds it goes from not connected to acquiring network address.I am sure that the key is correct, I am sure that my router is belkin router is wireless G and so is the Ralink RT2500 card. I am also sure that I have not white listed MAC addresses so my laptop won't connect. Basically I have done every simple thing that perhaps could be causing the problem.
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy son had his Dell laptop at college and was using their wireless network successfully. He came home last week and tried using his laptop on our home wireless network (w/Linksys router). He said he was not able to always connect so he tried to set up (configure, repair) the wireless connection himself (always a dangerous thing to do).Now he gets no internet at all (IE always goes into 'offline' mode) under Windows XP home.I've tried to trouble shoot the connection but so far I have been unsuccessful. The laptop can see the wireless network (it shows as available and connected). There is something wrong with the network connection that IE uses but I don't know how to go about fixing it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI got my computer fixed See thread I am having another slight problem. I don't think that this problem was necessarily caused because of the others issues I have recently fixed because I have had this issue in the passed but it just seemed to fix itself. I have a HP zd7000us laptop with wireless capabilities. However I the system does not even show any wireless network available. My desktop in my house has no problems going online with the wireless, neither does my psp for that matter. It's like the computer doesn't even know it's there. I went to the hardware wizard on my system and it says the wireless card is working properly but it will not see any available wireless networks.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm working on a Dell laptop for a friend Latitude D630 running Windows XP Pro SP2. Seems the only place he can connect to a wireless network is at his home.I now have the laptop trying to figure what the problem is. Here's what I found. I was able to connect to the internet via a wireless at my place. First on another friend's wireless unsecured connection. I was also able to connect via my own connection a WEP secured connection. Connectivity lasted for about 30 minutes. I was suddenly disconnected with a message saying the there was no connectivity via my WEP connection. I then tried the unsecured connection and was able to connect to the net at least for a few minutes. Since that time I've had some trouble connecting. I've opened a command prompt and entered ipconfig / release, then ipconfig /renew. It works on the unsecured wireless connection, but not on the WEP network.

View 1 Replies View RelatedComputers are 2 identical Dell Latitude D600 with XP Pro.Dell #1 was given to me. It had never had ANY updates applied, had 56 Trojans and a bunch of other problems. I took it to the local library and used their WiFi connection to download Grisoft AVG, Ad-Aware and Microsoft Malware Removal to clean it up. I then was given an identical used Dell #2. it was at the SP2 level, so I again went to the library and updated this one with 85 XP updates. Then, as a learning experience, I restored XP Pro on Dell #1 from a Dell CD, P/N 1R594 and then installed SP2 on it. All went well.I then tried to use WiFi on Dell #1. I tried to create a new connection, but when I clicked on finish nothing got created.I looked at Dell #2 which has a working WiFi connection and noticed that when I click on All Programs I see an entry for Dell Wireless, containing 2 itemsDell Wireless WLAN card Readme and Dell Wireless WLAN card Utility This entry does not appear on Dell #1 even though I used it on a Wireless network prior to the XP PRO CD restore today.

All i have is the floppy drive. When i run the XP boot disk, i get an error message of ' bootinfo.inf', whereas when i run a 98 boot disk it does at least get further but stops at the C: prompt but cannot get anything else to work.
I have run a Dir check and found that all the hard drive recognises is the command file. Also i have tried an external cd drive but cannot get the laptop to recognise it.

A laptop that I have to turn in soon. I use this more or less as a personal laptop (I work from home). I want to clean this up (remove history, etc) before I send it back to the company. I am not really trying to hide anything, but more prefer to not let them into my personal life. Please do not start preaching about ethics, or that it is a company comuter, etc....
The computer is a Dell Latitude D610, with Win XP. I have done the basics, like the Browser history, but I am more concerned with anything that may be kept in the registry, etc.

Tried again and got a high pitched continuos beep from it so turned it off/on again, nothing. Pressed F8 to try start it up in safe mode but it wont do that either. There is NO screen at all coming up. If i cant start it up in safe mode is it DEAD?
View 8 Replies View RelatedYesterday he was trying to copy a DVD. As far as I understand (which is limited), it froze and he turned it off. When you try to switch it on, you get a black screen with a white message. the jist of it says that Windows shut down and that to restart it you need to choose a mode - it gives you options 'safe mode' 'last known settings that worked' 'normal mode' etc. We have tried all of these modes. the most successful of which always looks really promising - you get the blue windows screen, logo and jingle it looks like it is starting up but then dies and the screen goes black. When you turn it on you get the black screen again and go around in circles.
View 2 Replies View Relatedever since I downloaded an episode of a TV show I missed last week (yes, bad idea..) my laptop has been acting up. It takes forever to open web pages if it will do so at all, and programs will give error messages and close. The messenger program will pop up showing others I am online although I have chosen all the options not to do that. I am sure it is a virus or some malware/spyware, but I run Norton (up to date) and Spyware Doctor (also up to date) and they can't find anything except a few adware cookies to delete. How do I find out what's causing this and get rid of it? It must have come in with the peer to peer program I would think?

View 3 Replies View RelatedWell, I really did it this time... I decided to upgrade my laptop to XP... backed everything important, did the upgrade...everything seemed good. Worked. Then it notified me that the Norton was not working, & advised me to uninstall & reinstall... so I did... only thing is, I went ahead with the restart! I should of looked for junk/trace files, especially since it said it didn't completely remove it. So, when I restarted it, XP keeps coming to a screen that checkes the file system, fat ,32 scans & fixes files... dump files, etc. I can get to the IBM Bios setup, but I don't really know what to do from there. When I use a boot (maybe the one I'm using is no good) it says C: doesn't exist... I did try to start in safe mode, one of the times it appeared... but it didn't change the screen still did that fix-it thing.
