Trace A Laptop That Accessed An Insecure Wi-fi Connection?

Apr 26, 2010

Is it possible to track/trace down who accessed an insecure wi-fi connection using their computer or laptop? Say the MAC address of the wireless adaptor is spoofed, and the "Computer name" is not identifiable, is there any other way of tracking down someone who used an insecure wi-fi connection?

Java Version Insecure

Nov 20, 2008

I just got the results from a Secunia scan which said that ,the installation of Sun Java JRE 1.5.x/5.x is insecure.the solution, new version can be downloaded from the Sun website,,,ok but I have Java 6.10 which is build 1.6,so what to do? I also have in add/remove programs ,Java Access Bridge ,,what is that,do I need it.
& also Java DB 10.2.2.0,what is that & do I need it? I can have Secunia ignore that Java but I take insecure warnings seriously & if I have programs or apps that I don't really need then I would like to free up the disk space. Oh,I use a screen magnifier/reader, Zoom Text, if that has anything to do with Java.

Insecure NET Framework (2000)

Aug 22, 2009

I have .NET Framework 1.1 installed (with 2 Hotfixes) and also .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 (including Hotfix). Secunia PSI tells me that my version 2.0.50727 is insecure. I have run microsoftupdate but no additional update comes up as being needed. Can I uninstall 2.0 and use just 1.1? Or should I uninstall 1.1, now that I have 2.0 installed, and ignore PSI? Or leave it as is? Do I even need .NET Framework at all?

Losing Net Connection On Laptop

Mar 28, 2008

On one of my laptops I keep losing my internet connection. In Network Connections, when I right-click and look at the properties, this laptop only has general & advance tabs and on my other one has the wireless network tab. I was told to go in to SERVICES.MSC and start the Wireless Zero Configuration service. Well, this did work, but they said when I reboot it wouldn't remember it and I would have to do this all over again.

Reinstalled Pro Onto Laptop - How To Set Up Wireless Connection

Sep 23, 2009

I unfortunately had to reinstall windows onto my laptop (dell inspiron 1520). However, a windows disk didn't come with the computer so I used the one that came with my desktop (dell xps 400). It's running fine and all that jazz but I am clueless on how to set up my wireless connection. When I first bought the computer the first time I opened it it automatically picked up the wireless connection and all I had to do is type in a password and such. Now I guess I'm starting from scratch... There's no webcam software on it or anything like it came with. The resolution doesnt even fit the same after adjusting it. (It's close but still a little stretched out)

Connection Laptop To Wireless Network

I have a wireless network to which I connect several computers and devices and everything works like it should. When I try to connect my laptop to this network, it fails.Every 5 seconds it goes from not connected to acquiring network address.I am sure that the key is correct, I am sure that my router is belkin router is wireless G and so is the Ralink RT2500 card. I am also sure that I have not white listed MAC addresses so my laptop won't connect. Basically I have done every simple thing that perhaps could be causing the problem.

Lost Wireless Connection On Laptop

Jun 2, 2008

My son had his Dell laptop at college and was using their wireless network successfully. He came home last week and tried using his laptop on our home wireless network (w/Linksys router). He said he was not able to always connect so he tried to set up (configure, repair) the wireless connection himself (always a dangerous thing to do).Now he gets no internet at all (IE always goes into 'offline' mode) under Windows XP home.I've tried to trouble shoot the connection but so far I have been unsuccessful. The laptop can see the wireless network (it shows as available and connected). There is something wrong with the network connection that IE uses but I don't know how to go about fixing it.

Laptop Not Seeing Wireless Network Connection

Sep 13, 2005

I got my computer fixed See thread I am having another slight problem. I don't think that this problem was necessarily caused because of the others issues I have recently fixed because I have had this issue in the passed but it just seemed to fix itself. I have a HP zd7000us laptop with wireless capabilities. However I the system does not even show any wireless network available. My desktop in my house has no problems going online with the wireless, neither does my psp for that matter. It's like the computer doesn't even know it's there. I went to the hardware wizard on my system and it says the wireless card is working properly but it will not see any available wireless networks.

Connecting Dell Laptop Wireless Connection

Dec 1, 2008

I'm working on a Dell laptop for a friend Latitude D630 running Windows XP Pro SP2. Seems the only place he can connect to a wireless network is at his home.I now have the laptop trying to figure what the problem is. Here's what I found. I was able to connect to the internet via a wireless at my place. First on another friend's wireless unsecured connection. I was also able to connect via my own connection a WEP secured connection. Connectivity lasted for about 30 minutes. I was suddenly disconnected with a message saying the there was no connectivity via my WEP connection. I then tried the unsecured connection and was able to connect to the net at least for a few minutes. Since that time I've had some trouble connecting. I've opened a command prompt and entered ipconfig / release, then ipconfig /renew. It works on the unsecured wireless connection, but not on the WEP network.

Dell Laptop - Wireless Connection Gone After Restore

Nov 15, 2007

Computers are 2 identical Dell Latitude D600 with XP Pro.Dell #1 was given to me. It had never had ANY updates applied, had 56 Trojans and a bunch of other problems. I took it to the local library and used their WiFi connection to download Grisoft AVG, Ad-Aware and Microsoft Malware Removal to clean it up. I then was given an identical used Dell #2. it was at the SP2 level, so I again went to the library and updated this one with 85 XP updates. Then, as a learning experience, I restored XP Pro on Dell #1 from a Dell CD, P/N 1R594 and then installed SP2 on it. All went well.I then tried to use WiFi on Dell #1. I tried to create a new connection, but when I clicked on finish nothing got created.I looked at Dell #2 which has a working WiFi connection and noticed that when I click on All Programs I see an entry for Dell Wireless, containing 2 itemsDell Wireless WLAN card Readme and Dell Wireless WLAN card Utility This entry does not appear on Dell #1 even though I used it on a Wireless network prior to the XP PRO CD restore today.

Files Dissapearing Without A Trace

Jul 14, 2008

On my PC, I have C: and F: as my hard drives - and the F: is used for all of my music storage - there are 3 main folders on this hard drive. All of my music is stored in artist alphabetical order. The capacity of the hard drive is 80 gig (76.3) - whilst going into my music folder, all of the artists from A to G are listed, but beyond that - they have dissapeared! The hard drive has got 75.3 gig used, thus the files are still there. I have checked that the hidden files tab is on, and the files are still not showing - however say I do a search for an artist on the F: ie Pulp, no files found matching that name

When i do my research the term active scripting comes up all the time (for pop ups). I wonder if this is the culprit and will this thing remains active even I don't have IE windows opened.

Moving on to the problem side of things, a friend of mine, suggested a program to me, to clean up my computer a little bit as, well.. it started to slow up on me this morning, and so, i did, i cleaned it up with this software, and great, the PC was running a hell of a lot faster, mind my language, i know. But yes, i started to use this software and thought it was great ( RegSeeker ) But now, since ive used it, my Windows Installer has... well, i wouldnt say died, but just stopped working Uninstalling / Installing I get this error message

That would have been ok but I didn't remember even looking at that doc for over a year. It got really weird (for me at least) when I checked other documents' Properties and *every* one of them had the date "August 29, 2005" down as the date last accessed! No - I didn't look at everything on my machine on that day! I then experimented by clicking out/back in to Properties and saw that the correct access date (in this case, today) was now listed
