On one of my laptops I keep losing my internet connection. In Network Connections, when I right-click and look at the properties, this laptop only has general & advance tabs and on my other one has the wireless network tab. I was told to go in to SERVICES.MSC and start the Wireless Zero Configuration service. Well, this did work, but they said when I reboot it wouldn't remember it and I would have to do this all over again.
View 8 RepliesI have a file server (Win2K Server) and two Win XP Pro PCs connected to it. I never turn the PCs off, just the monitors at night. Most every morning, after all night of no activity, when I try to access the domain drives, it cannot find them. I have to reboot. Also, when I do reboot, it takes anywhere from 3-5 minutes to come to the desktop after typing in the password. I am about ready to go back to Win2K. Never had this problem Win2K Pro.

So I've been randomly disconnecting when playing games like WoW, and CoH & losing connection on the internet as well. It can't be the router I assume since the laptop upstairs which connects to the same thing never disconnects. I have a D-Link router and a D-link gaming router which connects to the PC. Any help?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI unfortunately had to reinstall windows onto my laptop (dell inspiron 1520). However, a windows disk didn't come with the computer so I used the one that came with my desktop (dell xps 400). It's running fine and all that jazz but I am clueless on how to set up my wireless connection. When I first bought the computer the first time I opened it it automatically picked up the wireless connection and all I had to do is type in a password and such. Now I guess I'm starting from scratch... There's no webcam software on it or anything like it came with. The resolution doesnt even fit the same after adjusting it. (It's close but still a little stretched out)

I have a wireless network to which I connect several computers and devices and everything works like it should.When I try to connect my laptop to this network, it fails.Every 5 seconds it goes from not connected to acquiring network address.I am sure that the key is correct, I am sure that my router is belkin router is wireless G and so is the Ralink RT2500 card. I am also sure that I have not white listed MAC addresses so my laptop won't connect. Basically I have done every simple thing that perhaps could be causing the problem.

He came home last week and tried using his laptop on our home wireless network (w/Linksys router). He said he was not able to always connect so he tried to set up (configure, repair) the wireless connection himself (always a dangerous thing to do).Now he gets no internet at all (IE always goes into 'offline' mode) under Windows XP home.I've tried to trouble shoot the connection but so far I have been unsuccessful. The laptop can see the wireless network (it shows as available and connected). There is something wrong with the network connection that IE uses but I don't know how to go about fixing it.

I don't think that this problem was necessarily caused because of the others issues I have recently fixed because I have had this issue in the passed but it just seemed to fix itself. I have a HP zd7000us laptop with wireless capabilities. However I the system does not even show any wireless network available. My desktop in my house has no problems going online with the wireless, neither does my psp for that matter. It's like the computer doesn't even know it's there. I went to the hardware wizard on my system and it says the wireless card is working properly but it will not see any available wireless networks.

Seems the only place he can connect to a wireless network is at his home.I now have the laptop trying to figure what the problem is. Here's what I found. I was able to connect to the internet via a wireless at my place. First on another friend's wireless unsecured connection. I was also able to connect via my own connection a WEP secured connection. Connectivity lasted for about 30 minutes. I was suddenly disconnected with a message saying the there was no connectivity via my WEP connection. I then tried the unsecured connection and was able to connect to the net at least for a few minutes. Since that time I've had some trouble connecting. I've opened a command prompt and entered ipconfig / release, then ipconfig /renew. It works on the unsecured wireless connection, but not on the WEP network.

I took it to the local library and used their WiFi connection to download Grisoft AVG, Ad-Aware and Microsoft Malware Removal to clean it up. I then was given an identical used Dell #2. it was at the SP2 level, so I again went to the library and updated this one with 85 XP updates.Then, as a learning experience, I restored XP Pro on Dell #1 from a Dell CD, P/N 1R594 and then installed SP2 on it. All went well.I then tried to use WiFi on Dell #1. I tried to create a new connection, but when I clicked on finish nothing got created.I looked at Dell #2 which has a working WiFi connection and noticed that when I click on All Programs I see an entry for Dell Wireless, containing 2 itemsDell Wireless WLAN card Readme and Dell Wireless WLAN card Utility This entry does not appear on Dell #1 even though I used it on a Wireless network prior to the XP PRO CD restore today.

I have to reset the cable modem and then it works for another 10-20 minutes until the next cut. Ive had this problem before (last time i changed computers) but cant remember how it was resolved. The problem is this:
I purchased Everquest from gamestop, installed it and tried to burn the exe to a disk (it was a download purchase) so I could delete the file that was eating up a lot of space. I created the file to burn it to the cd and then went to delete it but the recycle bin froze. The laptop started running slower and slower and I noticed that my free space was getting progressively smaller (i.e. had 11 gigs went down to 8, went into safe mode to try to delete the files from the recycling bin and rebooted and it went down to 5). Now the files are in a folder called hidden_files/recycler and the clean disk doesn't recognize the recycling bin as having files to remove. When I open the bin it freezes up and I'm still losing memory.
I tried using the following to delete the files in the command prompt but it said file path not valid.
1.Open a command prompt window
2.Type cd recycled
3.Type attrib -h inf*
4.Type del info
5. Restart Windows
Every time I try to delete the files it freezes up or acts like they were deleted but upon searching for the files they are still there and my memory is still really low.
I'm willing to post anything that may be needed to resolve this problem just let me know (as I don't know what would be helpful here or what to run and post logs of).
I don't know what is happening to my XP Pro computer but everytime I reboot the computer, it tells me that windows cannot find my desktop profile and it recreates a new one. This is obviously becoming very annoying and making it very hard to be productive as all my icons are gone etc. I have noticed that no actual programs or files are missing, it is just that all the profiles I set go away. I did a google search and found nothing.

I try to remove it with the bridge connection area and all it says is "To create a Network Bridge, you must select at least two LAN or High-Speed Internet connections that are not being used by Internet Connection Sharing." to create their dialup connection to the internet, I couldn't.I went into the 'Internet Connection Wizard'. Told it that I was connecting directly to the internet. Then I told it I was going to set up the connection manually. But whenever the option comes up to setup a dial-up or broadband connection, the dial-up option is greyed out and unselectable.In device manager, it shows my modem as being fine. It's installed with no conflicts.
