I have found in Group Policy that there is a policy called Turn off Microsoft Peer-to-Peer Networking Services and is located under Computer Configuration Administrative TemplatesNetworkMicrosoft Peer-to-Peer. I have enabled this policy and applied to a test Windows XP SP2 machine. I have found that on this test machine I can still create a new ad hoc wireless network. how I can prevent users from creating ad hoc networks? Or why this policy is not working the way that i thought it would?

my cable is not working properly.Every 15-20 minutes my internet connection is broken even though the modem is online and there is no problem with the cable coming into my house. I have to reset the cable modem and then it works for another 10-20 minutes until the next cut. Ive had this problem before (last time i changed computers) but cant remember how it was resolved. I already talked to my ISP support but these guys are brain damaged or something and cannot even comprehend my problem and all 3 actually concluded that i had somehow contracted some killer virus immediately after connecting my computer and this virus was the root of my problems

I have tired to get rid of this bridge connection that is on my local area connection. I try to remove it with the bridge connection area and all it says is "To create a Network Bridge, you must select at least two LAN or High-Speed Internet connections that are not being used by Internet Connection Sharing." I have AT&T hig speed internet and tired talking to them and they said it was on my end, plus I spend two hours on the phone to someone who doesn't know much english and not alot about computers. So can someone please help me. The only way I can connect to the internet is through the my D-Link router which sucks

I recently reinstalled Windows XP Home on a friends computer, but when I went
to create their dialup connection to the internet, I couldn't.I went into the 'Internet Connection Wizard'. Told it that I was connecting directly to the internet. Then I told it I was going to set up the connection manually. But whenever the option comes up to setup a dial-up or broadband connection, the dial-up option is greyed out and unselectable. In device manager, it shows my modem as being fine. It's installed with no conflicts.

I've been trying to use Remote Desktop to connect from my home computer to my office network's machines. I've followed all the instructions except for the part where it talks about getting a "virtual private network connection". Not sure if I have this part done right. Not even sure if this is the problem. Is there something that needs to be set up before being able to connect from a home computer to an office machine?

the vpn connection was set up on my notebook by our systems administrator, and is supposed to work - but
it doesn't. i've got windows xp sp2 and i connect to the internet via
adsl. when i start the vpn connection i immediately get error 789
(L2TP) - without any data being transferred over the adsl connection.
I've searched for a solution to this problem some time now - and there
seem to be some topics about IPsec and NAT-T
(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B818043) -
but it didn't work for me.

About 3 or 4 minutes after switching on my computer, this message pops up. "No connection to the internet is currently available. To view internet content that has been saved on your computer, click work offline. Click try again to connect." This message gets repeated every half an hour or so. Though I had an internet connection when I bought the system P4, 2.8 GHz Windows XP SP2 four years ago, CURRENTLY I HAVE NO INTERNET CONNECTION FOR THE PAST ONE YEAR. I started getting this problem around 3 months back which I had ignored until a friend pointed out the nuisance it was causing. Searched around in the forums. But the suggestion all applied to those who had active internet connections which I do not have at present.

For the past 2-3 weeks, I have had a problem where at random intervals (anywhere from 30 minutes to 6 hours so far), I am no longer able to connect to the Internet. I use Firefox 1.0.6, and eventually my Internet connection just dies. My roommates (all connected to the same Linksys Router) do not lose their connection. If I try to access a webpage, I will get a Timeout error. I can't check email, connect with an instant message program, or web browse (tried loading IE after it happens, no success with that browser either). I have tried shutting down Spyware Doctor 3.2, and Eset Nod32 Antivirus to see if they might be causing the problem, but I have not had success with that either. My connection will stay down until I reboot my computer. After rebooting, I can connect without trouble until the problem shows up again. I have fully updated Spyware Doctor 3.2, and Eset Nod32 Antivirus and run complete scans, but nothing is showing up. It is rather annoying, as I usually have at least 6 browser windows open at a time, and I hate to lose all of them by rebooting. The only thing I can think of is it seems to be about the same time I updated from Firefox 1.0.5 to 1.0.6

We have one computer that is unable to connect via RDP to two servers. The system gives an error "The remote session was disconnected because there are no Terminal Server Licenses". We know that it is a computer issue because we can have that same user logon to another computer and they can use RDP to connect to all servers. This is a fresh install of XP Pro SP3. We have 5 different servers that users can logon to, 3 are Server 2000 and the other 2 are Server 2003.

This problem is that I have an active internet connection (dial-up) but neither of my two browsers (IE6 and Netscape) can find any websites. This is running XP Pro.It's as if the connection isn't recognized as being there? I've tried pinging but that doesn't work either. What can go wrong between having an active connection (shown on the task-bar icon) and having it accessible to applications? What can I check on?

I have just checked the 'connections options' and found that the box 'always dial if a network connection is not present' has been checked. Am i right in thinking that the 'always dial my default connection' box should be checked instead? or doesn't it make much difference? (I am usding Windows XP home) A friend of mine set up my email up for me and I am using 'Orange' as my ISP. For some reason he has put 'Orange anytime default 2' instead of just Orange. I hope this all makes sense?

What info do I need on the server side to allow access to the client computer. I know in xp (the server) in this case, you can allow users access by adding them and giving them access. Just wondering what kind of info I add on the server side for the client to have access.. Do i put in the client computer name, workgroup or Ip address? Internal IP address or external? I'm basically trying to setup a connection to allow me to use remote desktop from work to access my home PC. Home PC is using xp pro and work PC is using Win98. I've already setup the VPN connection at work (win98), just need more info on setting up the Host PC. Like what exact info I need from the client PC, to add this info to allow access to my Host..

I'm having problems with my LAN connection and router.Although the LAN connection is connected and firewalled, the router is on with all the lights working, i cannot get on to the net. When I open my internet browser to go to a web page it begins to search for it, however then displays page cannot be displayed message and informs me that the server cannot be found or a DNS has occurred.Sometimes i get a bubble pop up saying limited or no connectivity.
Before the connection stopped working, my main computer was connected directly to the router and there were two laptops also using the router wirelessly. However now none of the computers can access the net The connection works if i remove the router and use a broadband modem.I cannot configure my router as no instructions came with it relating to its use and after numerous attempts at contacting the manufacturers
