My computer started to lose its memory. I have had to remove items just to keep it running. Even though i don't have any big games in the computer i only have 2% free space left. I don't add anything but I still lose memory. I have run 2 virus programs (trend and super anti spyware) and a lot of problems were deleted.

I have a computer running Windows 2000 Professional and one running Windows 2000 Server. Both display the ram in kilobytes I'm trying to figure out if there losing memory or what. This could be perfectly normal for 2000 to display this, but I need to make sure.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am losing disk space during the day. After 10 hours, my 10GB of space is emptied. After I reboot, the 10GB comes back and starts losing space again.No viruses or trojan horses or spyware found using several software applications. Emptied tmp files, recycle bin, cache, etc. using several cleaning applications.
I have 69.1 memory free from 74.5 and i noticed no matter how much i delete i cant get up into the 70s.For example this month i have deleted a ton of music files that came up to about 400mb,Then a few programs that were around 50mb each and still nothing .If anything it seems i am going down in memory instead of gaining from deleting these programs.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI had admilli on my computer and i had run Hijackthis and deleted it from my pc.after this, my memory has began to fall dromatically randomly! i dnt hav much room on my pc but i had 256MB and it had gone down to 32MBi had then searched for files over 10MB and found that there was BLOB files that were 118MB each. i deleted them..I get back on my computer and then i had 20Mb left!!the Blob File reappeared.but i think that this storage loss is not due from this file.

The problem is this:
I purchased Everquest from gamestop, installed it and tried to burn the exe to a disk (it was a download purchase) so I could delete the file that was eating up a lot of space. I created the file to burn it to the cd and then went to delete it but the recycle bin froze. The laptop started running slower and slower and I noticed that my free space was getting progressively smaller (i.e. had 11 gigs went down to 8, went into safe mode to try to delete the files from the recycling bin and rebooted and it went down to 5). Now the files are in a folder called hidden_files/recycler and the clean disk doesn't recognize the recycling bin as having files to remove. When I open the bin it freezes up and I'm still losing memory.
I tried using the following to delete the files in the command prompt but it said file path not valid.
1.Open a command prompt window
2.Type cd recycled
3.Type attrib -h inf*
4.Type del info
5. Restart Windows
Every time I try to delete the files it freezes up or acts like they were deleted but upon searching for the files they are still there and my memory is still really low.
I'm willing to post anything that may be needed to resolve this problem just let me know (as I don't know what would be helpful here or what to run and post logs of).
After the sweep I have 100-150 MB less available memory than when it started, which is only corrected by a system restart. I only noticed the problem after I had been online with my MSN dial-up during which a system sweep had occurred. Any feedback and reply would be greatly appreciated.
View 18 Replies View RelatedEvery music folder in My Music after C (cameo!) has disapeared although I know they are still there - i can still play them in itunes and even open the song folder but if I copy it and drop it back into My Music it vanishes. Windows doesn't even recognise the memory that the missing files use and thinks the folder holds 3 gigs when its more like 30. Just wondering if there is anything I can try before going through the hassle of reformating.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a HDD that I partitioned into C:, and D:. I've noticed recently that C:'s capacity is dramatically going down. It's original capacity is 15GB, and now it's become 930MB. That was not all of a sudden of course, but it's just too much, especially that I do not install new programs in it.I used to open 'Properties > Disk Cleanup', where I would clear all System Restore points except the most recent one. Now Disk Cleanup loading process hangs, and I can't get into its menus. Is there other ways to manage System Restore other than 'Control Panel > System > System Restore'?

Suddenly the next day it jumped to under 200MB. It did that the month before, as well. I have known for some time I have to get another hard disk, but I am trying to hang in there a little longer. I have taken off everything I can think off and have moved everything to the other drive. When it is so low, I can't even System Restore

For example I have a 60gb harddrive on my laptop and am actually using about 20gb, however, if I power off and reboot and then go to Windows Explorer and go to C drive and check properties it will list my C drive at 21gb in use. f I reboot again and go to Windows Explorer and check C Drive and check properties it will say 22gb in use. I am now at the point that it says I am using 42gb of hard drice (C drive) even tho I am only using 20gb in actuality.

Such as suddenly begin to give sounds like TICK, TICK TICK. Suddenly vanishes from the 'MY COMPUTER' drives. Suddenly denies to copy paste functions. BIOS shows both SATA drives. But Win XP doesn't load or simply hangs while starting up [booting up]. It happens when I attach second SATA drive with system. If only one SATA is attached, then WIN XP boots normally.

I added another hard drive earlier in the year, and have moved alot of programs to that drive using "Application Mover". Not sure if it's a reputable program, but I thought it was doing everything correctly.
I'm not sure what to do, or what is wrong. I've scanned with Norton, Spy Sweeper, AdAware, and Spybot and nothing unusual has shown up.
Can I install XP on a hard drive which has only one partition with data without destroying the data?

I have tried copying large amounts of data (13-20Gb) but after a few minutes, I get "The drive is not ready" and it disappears from My Computer. If I disconnect it and re-connect it, it will reappear. The same happended with a 20Gb drive I swapped in, so it seems that it's not the drive. I have tried a different port to no avail.

I have already tried right clicking on drive c and selecting format but the message says windows cannot format this drive. Quit any disk utilities or other programs that are using this drive, and make sure that no window is displaying the contents of the drive. Then try formatting again.
So I closed all open programs that I could but still no luck. Then I tried the format from running the run command and typing format c:but I get this message format cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. I upgraded my server, basically all I kept was the two hard drives from the old machine. The one hard drive is for the system files (~13GB) and the other is for storage, user files, etc (~160GB). I figured that then I reinstalled Windows 2000 Server on the System disk, I would just have to assign the other disk a drive letter and be on my way. Instead, in the disk management console, I get "Disk 1 [the 160GB) Dynamic Unreadable" I can revert to a basic disk, but it says I will lose all my information. It is imperative that the data on this disk be recovered.

1.The loptops battery to be changed. I dont know how many batteries are there. Any cmos battery there like any other pc. Pl advice. What would be the cost. and the model number . I hope this is a simple problem, but each time I try to defrag my C drive, or even just analyze it, windows says it is out of memory and Disk Defragmenter could not start. However I am able to defrag the D drive just fine.
Last week i installed windows XP Pro on my desktop. It has a 250GB hard drive which has 1 partition (C drive only), NTFS offcourse. I did not format it while installing windows as it has lots of stuff in it. There's over 50GB free and i�ve been removing a lot of stuff from the hard drive to make up some space but in windows i get an error message that i don't have enough disk space, the disk cleanup utility runs cant free up space and i can not install or copy anything in the hard drive. I've noticed that when i deleted some file holding (or not) the shift key the free size goes lower although the files are being deleted from the hard disk.
