For whatever reason Notepad has started freezing whenever I try to save a document. This is incredible annoying as it's my favorite note writing program. Wordpad scrambles anything thats pasted into it. Control panel/add remove programs/Windows components doesn'twork. As Notepad is not listed in the accessories folder, even though it appears that way in program files/accessories. So, how can I fix this?
View 6 RepliesMy home pc is running slow and i wanted to do some poking around and I checked the folder properties for My Documents folder and it listed something like 3000 folders. However when I open it up there is roughly 20, at the most. Where are these other folders coming from? I do have show hidden folders. I also have a decent amount of mp3's, maybe a couple hundred folders there, but nothing in the 1000s range.
- How can i found out what all these folders are?
- Also can anyone recommend a do-it-yourself site/guide to tackle slow pc issues? I want to go thru my pc and delete all the unnecessary garbage that comes with it and what i don't need.
upon my start up a Common folder which incldudes drivers pops up. This has recently started. I am not sure why but I am trying to stop this. Please help and let me know if i should be concerned. I have already checked under my startup tab but no common folder listed.

Search for System restore shows a shortcut to it and when clicked gets me to C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersStart MenuProgramsAccessories.I haven't changed any settings on my PC. Windows Update got downloaded automatically yesterday.I tried to do system restore to an earlier date but it was unsuccessful. I'm the only user so I boot straight into my account and I'm the only one using my PC.

View 2 Replies View RelatedUsing XP Pro - go to start, programs, accessories, entertainment, sound recorder. I have used this sound recorder to record a message that I wish to email to a few people. After recording the message, I save it to my desktop. I then go to my email account and attach the file that I have saved to my desktop. The problem seems to be that what I am attaching is actually the address to my desktop and not the actual recording I am trying to send. In other words, what I am sending directs to "C:Documents and SettingsDavidDesktop". Anyway, I would really like to solve this problem and send the recording that I have been trying to do. Edit the hidden system file SYSOC.INF in the Windows/Inf folder.2. Delete all instances of the word HIDE. Don't put any spaces in between the commas.3. Save your changes.4. Open Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel.5. Click on Add/Remove Windows Components. You will now see options for Accessories and Utilities, MSN Explorer and several other components.6. Un check the tick box to remove that component or check it to install it from your XP CD.Be careful what components you remove though.

Everything--even RUN--opens with notepad. Yahoo, Run, Norton, all antispy programs, turbo tax, you name it.When I boot up, instead of having a bunch of programs load and sit on my toolbar, i just get 10 Notepad windows of spaghetti.
