Search for System restore shows a shortcut to it and when clicked gets me to C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersStart MenuProgramsAccessories.I haven't changed any settings on my PC. Windows Update got downloaded automatically yesterday.I tried to do system restore to an earlier date but it was unsuccessful. I'm the only user so I boot straight into my account and I'm the only one using my PC.

( they are still installed ) but they are missing from the all programs menu )? + i have just tried to use the caculator and its missing from the accessories menu. i went to add accessories but it doesnt show the icon in the start menu .. i can type in calc.exe in RUN and the caculator pops up . but i would like to have the icon to click on. View 2 Replies View RelatedUsing XP Pro - go to start, programs, accessories, entertainment, sound recorder. I have used this sound recorder to record a message that I wish to email to a few people. After recording the message, I save it to my desktop. I then go to my email account and attach the file that I have saved to my desktop. The problem seems to be that what I am attaching is actually the address to my desktop and not the actual recording I am trying to send. In other words, what I am sending directs to "C:Documents and SettingsDavidDesktop". Anyway, I would really like to solve this problem and send the recording that I have been trying to do. Wordpad scrambles anything thats pasted into it. Control panel/add remove programs/Windows components doesn'twork. As Notepad is not listed in the accessories folder, even though it appears that way in program files/accessories. So, how can I fix this?

Edit the hidden system file SYSOC.INF in the Windows/Inf folder.2. Delete all instances of the word HIDE. Don't put any spaces in between the commas.3. Save your changes.4. Open Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel.5. Click on Add/Remove Windows Components. You will now see options for Accessories and Utilities, MSN Explorer and several other components.6. Un check the tick box to remove that component or check it to install it from your XP CD.Be careful what components you remove though.

It says "Please insert the Compact Disc labeled 'Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 CD' into your CD-ROM drive (D and then click OK". The only Windows XP CD I have only has Service Pack 1 on it and it doesn't work for this

I have come across this one machine, belonging to an older lady, who's grand kids have some how managed to lock her out of her CD/DVD and Floppy drives. This is happening in Windows XP Home. The only account that is active is the lady's own administrator account. The drives are visible in My Computer and Device Manager, but have big red no access symbols on them. I have looked everywhere i can think of to solve this, but have come up short.

The CD Drive is visible from windows 2000, but when i go to windows XP, i dont see the CD Drive there in My Computer. It used to be there earlier, but then it disappeared. Normally when some bad CD is inserted, it disappears ,but it appears again on restart. Now its not appearing altogether !!! I know that its driver is the cause. Will I need to download a driver for it ? What might be the reason? Howcome it is functioning okay in Windows 2000?
