Reformatted my hard drive, Drive C and reinstalled Windows XP Professional SP3 and all the drivers. The drive is 120 GB. I have a Dell 8300, now all of a sudden when I click on Drive C it shows that I only have 24% unused space on my hard drive. It has been defragged and I know it shouldn't be showing that full.
View 6 RepliesI was downloading some file, and while I was downloading, it said I've got a very low amount of free disk space, which was then about ~50MB, and going down (drive C: ). I tried deleting some files (in total about 400MB), but it showed the same amount of free space, and kept going down. Ultimately, my download stopped because of this, and the free space is gone.I don't have System Restore enabled, it's disabled, on all drives (C: & D: ), and I don't think I have some kind of an automated backup program. Plus, my two drives are formatted in NTFS, not FAT. if that helps. I haven't tried to reset yet, but besides reset, is there anything else I should try?
View 8 Replies View RelatedIf I use any program other than windows explorer to check my HD space, it says about 20 gigs left, windows right now says 0kb on both c, d and e partitions. I run off e at the moment.A few days ago I deleted lots of files and just made a huge 15 gig txt file because I was bored... then I deleted the txt file and the space didnt change (I made sure it was deleted, I know the recycle bin doesnt do its job) and as the space didnt change I used a program called Rollback RX to rollback my HD to a few days ago. so I got my deleted files back (from before the txt file) and checked windows says I am running out of space.
View 6 Replies View Relatedi wanted to copy a cd image 4.18GB ISO format from partition F: NTFS 9GB free to partition D: (FAT32 12GB free space) and windows gives me that crap there is not enough space and i should do a disk clean up.
I made a disk clean up to partition D: and there was 3GB of system restore files!!! maybe coz i deleted 6GB earlier anyway i deleted the system restore files
Only NTFS partions can have files with file size more than 4GB..i hope theres nothing wrong with my windows or my hard disk..and i wanna know if theres a way to move that ISO image..thanx in advance.

I bit the bullet and reformatted my hard drive after problems with a corrupted W98 partition. (My testimonial to XP is that w/ W98 I did this sometimes twice a year or more; I've run XP without having to re-format for over two years.)
I'll try to make it short. I'm using WinXP ver2002 SP2 and I've justreformatted my drive D through run cmd (I'll just call it that cuz I don'tknow what it is.... )for various reasons(long story), and after t's reformatted, I opened drive D. Good, nice and clean. But something'sa bit different. There's a music symbol on the lower right hand corner of theexplorer window, just like "my music" has the symbol and "my pictures" has apicture symbol which shows it's a "picture type folder" or "music type folder".I know this can be changed in folder properties, and helps the folder to perform different functions from the options on the left. I've noticed that once defraged since a few weeks ago I HAVE GONE from over 70% free space down to only under 40%....I don't run any major software at the moment BUTDO use the internet on ADSL most days BUT not to any great extent. View 4 Replies View Relatedi reformatted my windows partition to try and solve a constant crash problem.my hd is divided up into 2 partitions with the second being where i stored all my data and mp3's.I only formatted the windows partition and now my second partition is inaccessable.The drive letter has also changed from k to d..i tried changing the drive letter back to k and the partition was still inacessable.Any help would be awsome on this.I would hate to lose 100+ gigs of data

I am running an 2.2gh Athlon 64 with Media Center 2005 and a gig of Ram and an integrated 200x Raedon mobo. The system idle process is at 99-80 percent most of the time. However, at the bottom it says I'm running around 75-100% and when I go to the graph it shows really high as well. I just reformatted my enitre drive via recovery disc to try to fix this. (Also and i didnt want to try to uninstall the beta 2 of vista so it wasnt for the sole purpose of fixing the percent thing) I dont have a duel boot anymore and it has ran this way since the start AND since the reformat. Too bad i didnt notice this when i bought it.

Much to my dismay I cannot figure out why this would occur. We did make recovery disks and removed our partition some weeks ago. It seems our C drive is using up space without any explanation. Ran many different anti virus and spyware software and they did not detect anything.

In addition, it gives it the same name as the mapped network drive that already exists there. When I change the name of the external drive there, it then changes the name of the mapped network drive, so again they both have the same name, although the drive letters are different. Any ideas how to make the external drive appear where it belongs in My Computer, under Hard Disk drives?

Well now, when I go to reinstall, it will not automatically start so I clicked on my computer and dvd-rw Drive (E and there are no files, in fact it states that my my file system is CDFS and the CDA Default - Full It says all space used 672 MB and Free Space 0 Bytes
I have 69.1 memory free from 74.5 and i noticed no matter how much i delete i cant get up into the 70s.For example this month i have deleted a ton of music files that came up to about 400mb,Then a few programs that were around 50mb each and still nothing .If anything it seems i am going down in memory instead of gaining from deleting these programs.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI just bought and connected a WD 160gb Passport External USB Drive. I check the Drive's directory. All's normal. I then installed Portable Apps Suite onto the USB Drive. Now when I check the directory of the USB Drive, I see the files/folders that are supposed to be there, which fine and dandy. But I also see two extra things:
1. Recyle Bin (contents exactly as the one on my desktop. If i empty it, the bin on the USB drive gets emptied. If I delete something on the desktop. The recycle bin on the USB drive shows that too!)
2. System Volume Information

Recorded a show onto a RWDVD. It plays on the dvd player fine. I wanted to edit it and then burn to a R disc. BUT, my computer E drive says the disc is blank. Is there any way to access the files via my computer?

I have removed all but the latest restore point, reduced the max amount of restore point storage to 5%, and removed all of the programs that I don't use very often, moved all of my files to the D drive, clean the cache and remove cookies regularly, and use disk cleanup a lot. After all of this, I only have 1.25GB left in C drive. Not even enough space left to defrag the drive. Anyone have any suggestions? Before long I won't have ANY programs left. I don't use a TV card or anything like that, although I do have the capability to record but never use it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Seagate 120gb HD and used the Seagate Wizard Tools that I downloaded from them to ghost (clone) to a new Western Digital 160gb HD. They are both 7200rpm and SATA. The new drive boots up ok but only shows 128gb, not 154gb as it did before it was cloned (I am not talking about the size of the data that was cloned). I redid it in Manual mode but no change. As far as I know there are no partitions on the Seagate drive. Another thing I noticed is that the System Files were at the front of the Seagate 120gb drive but are at the end on the WD 160gb. This shows when the drives are Defraged. Can anybody sort this out for me? I am doing this so that I have a backup drive incase of a terminal crash. Forgot, I am using a Intel 915gag w/P4@3.2 and W2000Pro with all updates.

It was too big to fit on a floppy and the CDROM had died so I took her old drive and hooked it up in the newer pc. The problem is: it shows up in System Devices but not in Windows Explorer. I tried right clicking on My Computer and then Manage to assign a drive letter to it, but it wont allow me. The option for assigning a drive letter isnt even available for that hard drive.

I finally decided it's time to try to run the disk defragmenter (it's been a long time since I have), but I need to free up 15% of my hard drive to run it.I've deleted all the programs I'm comfortable deleting, I've deleted temporary files and I still only have 1% of free space. I've try to do some research, but everyone just says to run the defrag tool to free up space, no one says what to do if you can't run the tool cause you dont have enough space.
