Getting Errors On Installing Pirated Copy Of Operating System?
Feb 8, 2006Why do people spend $200-$600 on a single piece of hardware (such as a graphics card, processor, or monitor), spend upward of 1 to 4 thousand for the entire hardware collection, and then pirate a copy of Windows XP Home that only costs like $100 for an OEM version if you don't even feel like shopping around for a good deal on it?I don't get it!What good is all of that hardware without any software to run it?And why to people whine about how bad Windows is, but then pirate it instead of running Linux? I mean if M$ software is so awful, then why use their software?

Jan 4, 2007I have an old dell that had windows ME on it (yuck) About 3 years ago, I upgraded to XP and installed service pack 2. Since then I have set up 2 laptops, broadband and a wireless network. But the old dell in the office (the main one that the high speed modem and linksys is plugged into) needs to have the operating system re-installed again. It has reached its half life...a nuisance, a pain, unbearable, unusable! When I tried to re-install it wouldnt let me because the version on the computer is a newer version then the one on the disk.

I do not have the installation CD. My question is: Can I go to a retail store, purchase a valid Windows XP Home or Pro edition, insert the new valid CD, and it will overwrite the pirated version? Or is something more involved necessary? Also, if I can do that, will all my files be lost?

May 31, 2008I'm trying to fix my friends Hp and I usually know what im doing. But here I have no idea what to do. I tried going into the bios to change the boot order to cd to format and I can't. Can anyone tell me what to do.I changed out his hard drive with mine and it does nothing. just posts and goes to a black screen instead of trying to boot and blue screening as it usually do when you change hardrives between two computers.Changed the Ide cables no luck.

System Idle Process - Internet Explorer Version 7
Nov 18, 2007I am using Windows XP Home, on an AMD Athlon XP 2200+ 1GB RAM. When I have been using the internet (Internet Explorer version 7) I occassionally experience a slowdown of everything internet related. I check the Tas Manager and it shows my System Idle Process using 99% of CPU. I find this odd, as my system is clearly not idle cause I am using it! My computer is on a network, and I havent heard it happening to other computers on the network until today, when the same thing occurred on another machine in the network. any ideas on what it is?

Since that reboot, the following things have happened: Got warning about failure of write back cache Blue screen about kernel that MS reported was due to bad HD. Finally able to boot into safe mode and found no HD errors. Thought registry corrupted, so tried to redo with a reload on top of the XP Pro but the program said it is older than that on computer (probably SP2) and won't let me reload.

Aug 19, 2009I shut off the computer and turning it back on couldn't boot up windows. It gave the windows wasn't shut down properly and I tried the normal restart option and it would just give a black screen with a blinking _ and then nothing happens. Tried loading in safe mode but it gets to mup.sys then "Press Esc to cancel SPTD.sys" flashes below and whether I press Esc or let it be, nothing happens after that.
I tried popping in the windows xp disc that came with the laptop, boot from disc, it starts up but then after loading everything, it then says "Windows is starting up" the disc stops spinning then nothing happens. I tried popping in a windows vista disc and it says "Windows is loading files" with a progress bar, when it fills up, I get stuck with a blank black screen the disc stops spinning and then nothing happens.

Sep 12, 2008I tried to do a System Recovery today on my Sony laptop. Got 41% completed and had a fatal error. Options given were Ignore, Retry or Abort. Attempted a Retry. Got a fatal error message and everything locked up. I ended up shutting down and when I turned the computer on again it said no operating system found. Where did I screw up?
This is a six year old Sony, XP, AMD 1.0Ghz. Everything was working at the time I tried the System Recovery EXCEPT I was constantly getting low space messages for drive C. I have no files on this drive and very little software. It is a 20G hard drive partioned into two 10G partitions.

May 5, 2006Should I ever use one of the utility programs to wipe my hard drive completely, how do I reinstall Windows XP since the CD driver has been erased? How can you reinstall an operating system that is on CD when you have no driver for the CD player?
