I just did a clean install of windows xp pro sp1, After I download and install SP2 ,I go to get on the net I lose the connection after about 2-3 minutes. What is the deal? After I remove Sp2 using Add/remove in control panel, the net works great. I quess Im trying to say I cant install Sp2 without Losing the Internet. I ran Sp2 for mounths without a hitch. I do run Norton System works 2005 if that matters.

Basically had to many programs i never used and didn't care about, and have made backups of important info..
I have a Asus P5n32-Sli Deluxe motherboard
Cable internet
windows xp pro.
I know i have access to the internet, the xbox 360, wii and nintendo DS all have online through my wireless.
I run a land line to the cpu, I even un"hooked" the wirless network to play with this.
Can I install Service Pack 4 for windows 2000 without the internet? Is there a disk I can make?

Have run into a problem. I can't connect to the internet on my desktop computer. Everything was fine untill 3 days ago. Now when I click the 'safely remove hardware' button in the system tray and click on the USB ADSL WAN Adaptor, the computer immediately shuts down and restarts.Also when I went to uninstall the modem software it also shut down.

View 5 Replies View RelatedAudio died recently, though I realize that now in retrospect.Started running real slow, finally died 4 weeks ago, MOBO wouldn't recognize Hard drive.after trying everything under the sun, I finally bought new harddrive. I installed winXP sp2 After installation, No Network connections.After trouble shooting I discovered that when I change the BIOS to enable on board ethernet, the MOBO recognizes that the PCI ethernet card is there and installs network connections...BUT, when I plug in the cable from the router, It does NOT see the bandwidth. It reads 10MBps when my laptop (plugged into the sme router ) reads 100. Additionally there is a green light on the back indicating that there is a connection AND my router lights up like something is connected.My device manager WILL show the ethernet card and that it is working properly. BUT no network connection (can't browse the I-net, can't connect to other computers on my network, PC is not visible to others on the network. total bytes sent and received remains 0.

So I did what they said in troubleshooting (use regmon to find a key that says "access denied" So I did that and found that HKCR/mailto is the problem. So I go into the registry and when I click on it I get an a message saying there was an error opening the key. I try change the permissions, and again I get an error message. Then I even try to delete it (I have a copy from another system to install) and again I get an error message. What can I do to fix this problem?

View 6 Replies View RelatedAfter long periods of my internet connection being idle (2+ hours usually), all programs requiring internet access are unable to connect. By idle I mean I leave to run some errands with no programs other than Zone Alarm running. My DSL modem still has all lights flashing and active. There are a couple other scenarios where this occurs as well. Ex. I'm playing WoW for extended periods but not using the internet through any other program, then upon alt-tabbing no other applications are able to connect to the internet even though WoW is still connected and functioning. Rebooting the router/modem doesn't fix it, but rebooting the comp does.

I use MSN as my ISP, and before, i could access internet explorer, or firefox, or any program without ever actually having to sign in to MSN. after the crash, however, i now have to sign in to access internet explorer, firefox, and a couple programs. what angers me, however, is that i DONT have to sign in to access trillian. Limewire, also, will connect, but wont download anything without msn being logged in. How do i get back to how it was? And no, system restore did not work.
