Making Duplicated Document Foldres At Different Locations
Sep 19, 2005
I noticed recently that my computer is duplicating my document folders. For example, I have a folder with mynamemy documents and a duplicate location of my documents containing the same folders. When I delete a file in either location it deletes from both locations.
Need some advice: My Documents folder shows up twice when I go to Windows Explorer. It shows up on C:documents and settings erri and c:documents and settings errimy documents,Now here is the question - can I delete one of the folders (the second one) and will this cause a problem? Everything is duplicated and is there a need for two of them taking up room and causing confusion?
I'm running Windows XP, which has been fairly unstable as late, and thinking it might be because of an overful hard drive, I recently moved several gigabites of music etc. off my main drive (C and onto my second drive (F. Unfortunately, this now means that i'm wasting a fair bit of space on my F drive, as I already exported most-but-not-all of these files to my iTunes music files so I could put them easily onto my iPod. I'd like to free up this space again, but since the files are all in one large folder and not very well organised, it's gonna be a nightmare going through them all and just deleting the ones that are already in iTunes. Does anyone know a simple and effective way of deleting these duplicate files, but keeping ones that aren't duplicates where they are? I don't mind downloading freeware/shareware but I can't afford anything retail at the moment
A problem has been detected and Windows has shut down to prevent damage NO_MORE_IRP_STACK_LOCATIONS'etc. I spoke with someone who said to reboot and go into Safe Mode and Restore as far back as I can. When I go into Safe Mode to Restore, it tells me that Restoring in Safe Mode has been disabled. So I rebooted again and went into Safe Mode and do have all the icons up etc. My friend asked me if I had installed any new software/ hardware or if I have Zone Alarm.I said the latest hardware installed was a mouse but I have been using it for over 1 month. The only software installed was Java INIT.I have always had two things come up for the past two years, one that says I have new Hardware Device to install, which I always cancel and also a message that says something needs to be written to a CD which I close.I do have Zone Alarm 5.5 and went onto their forum to see if anyone else has issues, and they do not.
I usually work on my business work with Zone Alarm off, as I use a VPN which doesn't work with Zone Alarm on.I've had Zone Alarm for over 3 yrs.Does anyone have any suggestons how I can rectify this issue? I sure would appreciate very simple instructions from the gurus - thanks so much! By the way I'm using my husband's computer and can receive hotmail email.
For all you old "Dosasauruses" out there, here's a challenging batch file I'd like to get off the ground.I would like to delete files in my two default Temp locations always from yesterday on back.Is there a way to invoke "Dir" (inside the batch file) to separate the files as to date and send them to a staging folder where I can use "Del" to remove them? There are always fresh temp files generated each bootup to prevent a del *.* scenario from workingI've only been using XP for a couple of weeks and I found over a thousand garbage temps in both locations. I'd like to work toward the end of keeping that to a minimum; ergo the batch file idea.
Where is Set Program access and defults located?I did a system restore 3 times, on one occasion I named the computor ***HP. I noticed this name appearing in the virus scan in "documënts and settings" and deleted it.
How can I add a custom location to the display properties background tab? All my wallpapers are stored under D:Wallpapers and I want to see them in the background tab.
I recently used system restore in WinXP and now in all of my program directories there are additional folders named Data with a folders name resources in those. In the resources folder are the exe files for the programs and all shortcuts I have for those programs point to these exe files. So when I use one of those shortcuts two instances of the program opens and slows my computer down.
Earlier today, when logging on to my profile, I saw a message box that I think said something along the lines of "Windows cannot update your profile". The message box also had a timer counting down from 25. I clicked "OK" on the message box and proceeded to my desktop. However, once my profile was loaded, all items i My Documents were no longer there. In addition, it seemed as if several Properties were set back to their default states (i.e. my background picture was changed, my theme was changed etc.) Also, the only folder that now exists in the place of My Documents is "C:Documents and Settings TEMPMy Documents".
I recently received a military registration form which I had to download to my documents. It downloaded successfully. The problem is, it will not let me open it. When I double click on the ICON I get an error message. To wit:"The command cannot be performed because a dialog box is open. Click OK, and then close open dialog boxes to continue." I do have Norton Antivirus 2005 and a Pop Up Blocker activated. If this is the problem must I deleted them both before I can read my document or, being a beginner, am I simply missing something obvious.
I have deleted a document from my recycling bin a couple of days ago. I use a Dell XP Home pc. Is there any way to get that document back after it was deleted? I doubt it but thought I'd ask around
I have scaned a document, and saved it like xx.jpg, but i have deleted it from recycle bin too..so can anybody tell me how can i recover this document cause i need it very much..P.S i tryed it to recover with recover my files program, but i cannot racover these files.
Under My Computer you will notice a new folder called shared documents. Microsoft has made it easy to share files and folders over a network by dragging icons into it. If you wish to remove this folder from My computer all you have to do is delete a key from the windows registry.
I have an IBM ThinkCentre that was the wife's. Cleaning it up to sell, and I've renamed the Administrator's name, removed all software, changed the computer name for my network, in essence, getting it ready to sell. But in the Documents and Settings folder is a sub-folder with her name. When I try to change the name XP says no, it's a system file. Short of hacking the registry, how can I change the name.
when i go to print a document on word it freezes and i have to close down word this also happens on other programs aswell including notepad. I have tried to go in to the control panel to sort it out but when i click on printer and faxes it just freezes and i have to close it again using the task manager.
I recently changed my text handler from Notepad to Metapad cause I like it better. Could that be why it dissappeared from my right click menu? Anyhow, anyone know where this is in the registry. Oh yeah, I also have TWEAK UI but for some reason, in the templates, I can't create a new template there. I tried with Notepad.exe, and also with Wordpad aka Write.exe but I get an error message saying: "This document cannot be used as a document template."
I also have FRESH UI and in Fresh UI, I selected "New" context menu and added extention ".txt" (without the quotes) and it confirmed that I sucessfully added the extention but it doesn't show up in the menu, even after three reboots. This is strange because it was always there, the option to create a .txt document in the right clickNew but it just disappeared.
One more thing, as per some website, I created a folder in Windows called "ShellNew" and put a blank text file in it from Notepad and then did some registry editing in HKEY classes root/ .txt as suggested from this website and created a new string etc blah blah, where you point to the SHELLNEW folder where the text file was but this did not work either.
All my folders in My Documents just display as a plain yellow folder (default folder), whereas the My Music, My Pictures folders had the personalised icons on them.
While typing a docment, a sound will occur and I will lose my curser. This causes me to put the arrow where I want to type and left click to reset the cuser. This incident seems to occur every so often at about a minute or use. This is annoying and I do not know why this is occurring. My operating system is XP. There is no error message just a sound. May I hear from you at your earliest convince.
Two identical Dell PCs each with XP Home SP1, and a different USB printer on each. Both printers behave the same.On booting the PC and printing a document, the first page may or may not print, but then the printer goes to Offline mode.
I have seen this on multiple printers.Canon S450, HP etc when you go to delete what appears to be a currently printing document out of the printers queue. You can see that it says deleting but it just sits there and never goes away. Then you can't print anything else. You try shutting off the printer, rebooting the machine and it doesn't work. How the heck can you force this document to really be deleted and free up the printer?
I have accidentally deleted the option of creating a new text document via the right mouse click New > Text Document. Can it be restored in the Registry? without using the Restore option, as much work and new programs have been added since?
I tried to access my folder which includes various text documents of my job but the folder won't open. I did Disk De fragment but it still won't work. I also tried to delete this folder cause at least I would control these files from the recycle bin and the folder won't get deleted.
i deleted microsoft office document imaging and One Note from my printer sectiona while back because I was unaware of their functions. While playing on a different computer, I experimented with the programs and found out what they are used for. But now they are still gone on my computer. How do I get them back deleted them from printer and faxes and now I want them back.what do i do?
It seems when I'm typing in an e-mail, word document, or on the internet. I will be typing and the location of my cursor moves, whether it be in the middle of the sentence or at the end.
I have my resume in My Documents (Windows 2000) and yesterday, as I was updating my resume, I was thrown into 'paragraph format' (?) and there are tabs and other marks all over the document. The thing is Windows is sending me an error message. I'll stop here and look for responses.
If I click on any existing Excel file in "recent documents", excel loads then the file loads - then an error message is displayed that advises: - "A document with the name [doc name] is already open. You cannot open ". No - I didn't double click the doc name and it happens with ANY document in the list of "recent documents". The same thing happens in Windows Explorer (but here I have to double click). If I start Excel then open an existing document there's no problem.
My fax printer driver must have become corrupted because the console said there was no printer driver installed. I went to Add Windows Components, added Fax again and nothing happened. Went to Printers/Add Printer and let the wizard add a fax driver and it came up with a Microsoft Office Document Image Driver on LPT1. Fax Console still complains there is no fax driver, so I'm assuming that's the wrong printer driver.I'd like to force the install of a printer driver but I don't know what port it's supposed to be on and where to go to look for the driver.
Double-Clicking on a Document Takes a Minute to Open. For example, I double-click on a PDF, word, excel, txt, jpg, file, it takes between 45 seconds and sometimes even 75 seconds for the application to open. If I however open the aplication first, even by double-clicking the desktop shortcut for the application, it opens immediately. From there, I can locate the file to open which also opens immediately. Also, right-clicking on a document takes also 45-75 seconds for the context menu to appear. Sometimes it doesn't even appear. I've tried many "cleaners" out there such as Ccleaner, registryfix, Cleanup! and others. I've also permanently deleted temp files, temp internet files, cookies, history, files, etc.
I have a Dell Inspiron 8500 with XP Pro that I am trying to connect to an HP Laserjet 4P. The 4P tests OK on a W-98 machine, so I know it and the cable are not the problem. When I try to print, I get no output, and a message that the document failed to print. I've tried Word, Notepad, and DOS, and no results. When I interrogate the printer from the print dialog box, it tells me that the Services Directory is unavailable. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the printer, and re-booting. The computer prints normally to an HP 3100 laserjet and a newer HP injet printer as well. I can't seem to find anything in the Help and Knowledgebase to tell me where to go. I did try following instructions to investigate the "printer permissions", but stalled out when I right-clicked on the printer and there was no "Security" tab anywhere in the dialog box as described.
can any one help why is it when i am typing on my laptop the cursor will jump to the middle of the document or as it has just done dropp to the bottom of page.
