Cannot Run Setup In Safe Mode

Aug 17, 2005

I attempted to re-format NTFS and re-install Windows XP Home Ed to get rid of a virus on a PC.I made the bonehead mistake of beginning this re-install while I had the computer in Safe Mode (I got into safe mode to save off data files).I went through the XP re-install, booting from the CD and did the re-format through the recovery console. Now I get an error message that says "Windows cannot run setup in Safe Mode. Windows will restart". I click OK and the system reboots. When the BIOS loads, I can get into the Advanced Options menu, I select boot normally but the PC still seems to boot in Safe Mode and I get the error message again.I'm stuck in this cycle because I can't get out of Safe Mode and Windows can't complete the install.

Cannot Run Setup In Safe Mode

Nov 30, 2009

I've read several threads and have not gotten a full answer that works. My computer was infected with the Advanced Virus Removal trojan. All the forums I read were not helpful as it had mutated and would not allow access to regedit or task manager. My virus/spyware support said to go under msconfig and have in safe boot mode under boot.ini. Well my system rebooted and would go to blue screen saying system was infected and would stop. This would happen each time. I was told to use my startup cd. I did and chose to repair the OS. When it would reboot the screen would say safe mode in the corners and then a dialog box appears saying Windows setup cannot be run in safe mode. Tried going under F8 and tried every option with the same.

Setup Cannot Run In Safe Mode

Jul 8, 2005

I've read some other posts with this problem, but I haven't seen a solution that will work for me. I set my xp to safeboot through msconfig per instructions from symantec for spyware removal. It never booted in safemode, just was stuck in a loop.I decided to try to boot from the cd. It was going okay as a repair until it told me it was going to restart and finish setup. When it restarted it said setup cannot run in safe mode.I can't reinstall (at least I don't think so) because everytime you start it up it says setup is restarting..... and then you get the error message again.

Installing SP3/only Runs In Safe Mode

Dec 28, 2008

I have windows xp and all previous service packs have been installed thru automatic update. However when trying to install SP 3 using windows update it fails to install. I have then gone to the Microsoft website and downloaded SP3 and tried to load it from my desktop. It will go thru the installation and when it gets to the finish stage it seems to stall. I have left it run for over 1 hour with out it finishing, I have both tried to shut down andnormally and also hold the on button to turn the computer off. Windows will then only start in the safe mode. In the safe mode I can go back to a previous date and restore settings and re-start in the normal mode.

When I install my BT Broadband PCI card (the one with an aerial sticking out the back), it crashes my system.Which is understandable because after a new install XP (recovery disk) on new hard drive, I am running on XP SP1 - and XP doesn't understand this new card. But should it crash in Safe Mode?If not, do you think this might indicate the motherboard is at fault?

Installing 2.0 Sp1 - Setup Error

Jun 3, 2008

Im having many problems during the instalation of microsoft net framework. First of all this occur cause i was trying to install NET FRAMEWORK 3.0 on my computer but the instalation never ended and it give me some errors, so i uninstall every version of the program trying to reinstall them again (i read this may be a solution (i use add/remove programs and a clean up tool specified for removing net framework)), first i try installing 1.0, but a message says that i already have it installed, then 1.1 which i could install fine, then the SP1 for 1.1 says that i need version 2.0.5556 in order to install this service pack, then i try to install 2.0 but an incompatibility error appears referring that i may have installed " framework 2.0 sp1" (wich i dont), then i try installing 2.0 sp1 but i get a "setup error" nothing else, same when trying with 3.0.

i have try different things like starting/stopping msiexec (on safe mode), installing and removing net framework several times or trying to install IIS (wich i couldn't cause i dont have the original windows cd) as possible solutions, but this problem is driving me crazy! Is there a solution like uninstalling all, installing all again without format? i think it maybe has something to do with file extensions missing, i read something about MSI files, but im not share.

Can't Boot Into Safe Mode / Stop Error Screen

Jun 15, 2005

In trying to get rid of some adware, I attempted to boot my computer (P4 2.8 GHz, 1.5 GB Ram, Windows XP SP2) in safe mode. When I selected "Safe Mode with Networking", I was brought to a blue screen called a "STOP ERROR SCREEN" - basically it said that it had to stop the booting up of the computer or the computer might be harmed. It suggested removing any recently installed hardware and disabling BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. So I rebooted and got into windows normally just fine.

Then I decided to try just regular Safe Mode (without networking) - when I selected that option, the computer started to do it, then rebooted and prompted me if I wanted to boot into Windows normally or safe mode, etc...I tried Safe Mode again - same thing, a reboot. I tried Safe Mode with Networking again - and I got the blue Stop Error Screen again.

This is pretty strange (at least I've never seen it) and I'd really like to be able to boot into safe mode.

Stop Error Screen Won't Start Even In Safe Mode

Nov 14, 2007

The problem is on my buddies pc. It uses Windows XP Professional. I have it setup next to this pc I'm currently using. First I get this screen:

We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent harware or software change might have caused this.

If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly, or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders, choose Last Known Good Configuration to revert to the most recent settings that worked.

If a previous startup attempt was interrupted due to a power failure or because the Power or Reset button was pressed, or if you aren't sure what caused the problem, choose Start Windows Normally.

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)
Start Windows Normally
Use the up and down arrow keys to move the highlight your choice.
Any choice I highlight brings this screen:
A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is indentified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters.

Check with the hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

Avg / Adware Fail In Removing Virus - Error Reboot In Safe Mode

Aug 11, 2009

I'll try to remember, to the best of my ability, the sequence of events...Suffice it to say that I downloaded and tried to install something I shouldn't have. I Immediately tried to get out of the errors from AVG (free version) and stop the install. All seems good, then IE keeps opening to bogus ad sites. I realize I've got something. AVG and AdAware both fail in removing this Win32Trojan.tdss (I think AVG gave me this description). AVG tells me to reboot to remove it properly. Reboot throws me into "can't verify this installation of Windows". Boot in safe mode work, then I get the same error on reboot...even in safe mode.

I don't have the original Windows CD (separated from husband and software at the same time; cannot find any software now), but it's a Dell and it came with Windows XP Home (product key on box), but I installed XP Pro instead. Don't know what product key was used or how to get it.....

Manually Start Pc Safe Mode F8 Click Debugging Mode - Can't Locate HPOIPM07.exe

Mar 1, 2005

this is the best way I know to explain all of this. I am running a 3 yr old Gateway with Windows xp and Sp 1 & 2. I have always stayed up to date with my Windows updates deleting cookies, defrags and so on. I am running Avast anti virus and Armor 2 Net firewall. I have noticed over a period of about a mth that my system has been getting pretty slow to boot up and load up web pages. Now I am having to manually start my PC and I have to do it in safe mode F8 and click on debugging mode. If I don't do it this way then everything loads up and then my PC just turns itself off. I have PC doctor and I have done a complete diagnostic test and I have gone to antivirus.com and did a virus scan there as well as with my Avast. I am thinking that I may have to totally take everything out and reinstall everything back in. The only thing is -is that I don't know what to type in to get the whole thing going. Also I have been getting a message but only sometimes that says RTL cannot locate HPOIPMO7.exe (HPOIMO7.exe) I haven't a clue what this is. Might it have anything to do with what is going on. I don't mean to write a book here but there is one other thing, the other day I had a window pop up that said that windows needed me to reinstall my xp software and when I tried it said that the version that I was already running was newer than the cd software I was trying to install and wouldn't accept it.
