Install Keeps Going To Start After 1st Reboot
Jun 2, 2005
I built a new computer, and tried to put xp pro on a new hard disk drive During the firs few minutes, while "copying files" is occurring, all is well. When it gets to the end, it says, Windows will now reboot". It reboots, and then goes all the way back to the beginning, "Windows is inspecting your system". I've tried to get past this by changing the boot order, disabling another drive other than the c drive, etc, but nothing works. How do I get the installation to go past where it was when it started it's reboot?

Using XP Home, If I click on Start>Run after a reboot, the Run window opens normally. If I open any program and then click on Start>Run, nothing visible happens! Nothing. I have tried to correct this by right clicking and using: Properties>Customize>Advanced, but without success.Haven’t been able to fix this with Tweak UI or by using sfc. AVG has not found a virus.Observations:Switching to Classic View the link works normally every time.Clicking Start>Run and nothing happens, then looking in Task Manager gives the following information: under Applications, Run is shown as running right clicking this entry and selecting Go To Process shows the explorer.exe processRun opens every time by holding down the Windows Key and pressing R.

I've installed XP many times and this is the first time this has happened to me. After XP copyies the files and reboots it wants to reload the cd which, of course, I ignore. Then it just hangs or, ultimately, gives the message, "Operating system not found." I tried the installation with only the one drive connected and tried installing it to a single partition on that drive.

I just got a hand-me down sony vaio desktop.
My mother isn't tech savvy and had a few errors with it not wanting to boot up. As sony didn't include the windows XP disk (or even a simple recovery disk) she decided to buy a new system outright. So I inherited it.
I tried installing my main HD from my other PC into it, but it wouldn't recognize it at all unless it was as a slave. I hooked the vaio's HD to my PC and took the essential files that were to be saved from it (music, pictures, etc...) and then formatted it.

Ok I used to have ubuntu and xp partitioned to seperate drives on a single harddrive. I no longer wanted ubuntu so I ran my xp cd, deleted the ubuntu partition, and was left with half my drive(74gb) as unallocated space. So now i needed to figure out how to get that unallocated space back onto the xp partition. I didn't realize that you couldn't add unallocated space back to the xp partition with the xp boot cd. But i now know how to fix that problem. (Partition magic or whatever its called) Now when I turn on my computer without booting from the xp cd, it goes to the setup screen and says "The setup is being restarted". Then the screen goes completely black except for my mouse. Nothing else happens so I have to restart. When I boot with the CD I get the windows setup screen. It gives me 3 options: Set up Windows XP now
Repair Windows XP installation using Recovery Console and Exit setup without installing Windows XP I tried figuring out the recovery console just by using the help command, but no luck there. I did find out that my xp partition still is fine and has everything that it did before. But i just can't get it to start up.

This is similar to the problem B1177 posted about, but I'm having no luck solving it myself. Basically, I have an IDE CDROM into the mobo, and a SATA HDD hooked to a Koutech Initio-chipset SATA controller card. In the card's setup at boot, it says the drive is "passthrough". I confess I'm not sure what that means. I'm new to SATA. I slipstreamed the Inic1620 drivers into a new CD with nLite, which stopped the "Setup cannot find any hard drives..." error, and allowed Setup to continue. After loading files, however, on restart I get the ever popular STOP 7B BSOD. Windows DOES begin to start, and the splash screen shows for a second or so, then it's into the ol' freezerino. Email to Koutech support has gone unanswered.
The machine is a Gigabyte 6IEML/P3900/500MB with an Intel 82815/801B chipset. I also tried restoring an image from another machine with an Intel chipset--though not the same one--and it stops at mup.sys, but that may have nothing to do with the SATA card. Interestingly, although Windows Setup couldn't find the drive, a Hiren's CD, with no SATA drivers loaded, could. Actually, a bit more than interesting isn't it?

A fresh installation of windows xp. When I am having installed XP, then it comes to installing various software, is it necessary to allways do a reboot after each installatoin, even if the software does not request it. Most software does not seem to request it, is there any benefit in rebooting, or conversely can any damage possibly be done by not rebooting and then reinstalling another software without rebooting for the first one that doesn't specifically ask for it. My next question is this. If I use an image to restore my operating system, is this in any way of a lesser quality than if I do a manual installation using the installation xp disc.

Picked up a computer from my parents the other night that has stopped working. When it is turned on it goes throught the normal process of recognising the BIOS, running some checks on processor, memory clock, primary master etc., but once these checks are done it jumps to the screen that says: We apologize for the inconveneince. Windows did not start successfully etc., and then asks me to select from
Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with command prompt
Last known configuration
Start Windows normally

This all started in the "98 Forum" I had 98 and would only start in Safe Mode. I seemed to have fixed that. Then I tried to install XP. I unistalled the whole Battery Scope deal from Safe Mode. Then I restarted. It started in Normal Mode and stated it was going to re-install the Battery Scope. Then it worked just fine.
Then I started getting cute. Instead of leaving it as is, I tried to install windows XP:I have got past the part with the Serial Number and I am now at the actual installation. It has completed "Collecting Information," "Dynamic Update," and "Preparing Installation."

I just installed Win XP on a freshly formatted C: drive of an IBM HDD using a slipstreamed XP disk.It appeared to install normally, loaded all the required drivers and configured without problems. But when booted and rebooted several times it shows a desktop with the standard background, BUT NO TASKBAR nor START BUTTON. The computer is ok because it loads XP normally from the slave drive. When I run the Task Manager it shows the startup files, explorer.exe and normal processes, but will not respond to the shutdown option.Since I can't access "Run", I can't run "Regedit" or any of the suggestions made to others.

I have a Compaq Proliant 8000 here that had Red Hat Linux pre-installed and in working order. My company then decided that it wanted Small Business Server 2003 installing, so after using Compaq Smartstart to format and re arrange the disk arrays, which is no problem at all system formatted then a raid 5 disk array set-up which smart start detects and reads correctly However, now that is done the system will NOT install SBS 2003 or any other operating system at all, at the point of the install where the disk reads "Windows Set-up" the system just stops and freezes, this happens with other disks and different O/S discs.

Got new parts for PC upgrade. All parts new (including cables) but recycled HDD and DVD/CD-ROM.All bits connected and powered up last night in about 10 mins. Put Windows XP CD in, went into setup/ reformat process then PC needed rebooting to continue with Windows setup. Fine. or so I thought. rebooted, went into "Please press any key to boot from CD". IF pressed any key, went through the whole reformat, copy setup files etc. ELSE, just hangs on that screenie. No error messages or anything!Seems to me like it's gone into a loop, and not running the Windows set-up files copied into the HDD.

I have done some searching and it seems that other people who have had this problem, have been installing ubuntu. I havn't managed to come to a solution. I installed XP(1) onto drive 1 , then reorganised all of my partitions to be in the correct order with the correct labels (I have been having a nightmare with volumue labels being incorrect!). Anyways got all the partitions exactly how I want them using partition manager (i.e XP(1) on C: with the intention to install XP(2) on D. Rebooted machine, pressed a key to boot from CD, it says 'setup is inspecting your current configuration' and then the screen stays black (I have to reset the machine). I turned off the computer and dissconnected drive 2 (int.) and drive 3 (ext.). Problem still exists.

while trying to fix another problem, by repairing WP on an Averatec 3200, the Install went into the actual install mode, rather than the repair mode. As I don't have the security key (someone who will go un-named, but I have my suspicions, threw away the plastic CD holder with the key taped to the back) I can't continue the install and I can't get the install off the computer. The reason that I was trying to repair is that I have the Log-on Virus which makes it impossible to log on and do anything about the virus. Can't even get to SAFE mode to try to remove the virus with Spyware Doctor.

I've unplugged it and when I put the plug in, the lights flash for a moment then the thing dies. I've tried to hold down the power button and stuff but it just won't start. I built it in July 06 and its been running well until I get back from this trip.

I have a Dell PC 8250 and over the past two yrs I have managed somehow to increase my start-up time by inadvertently adding to my start-up file. I understand that there is a way to eliminate items in the start-up file but having been to the site, I cannot determine which items to delete without messing up my system. Please advise, and maybe tell me what the basic start up should look like.

Problem was the onboard video failed replaced it with a video card from another system (riva TNT) and bought some memory system wouldn't boot, determined that the memory was bad Now the system booted but win2K wouldn't work. No problem I have XP now. After multiple error during the xp install I finally got through it.only the computer will only boot in safe mode. Initially thought it was a hardare conflict so I booted in safe mode with networking and systematically cleared all the yellow.
