help me stop IE7 from launching on start up and system reboot. I have already checked my processes, can't find anything related there. Checked my startup folder, nothing there either. Ran the MsConfig and can't find the problem there either. I even ran a full virus check and found nothing. This just started happening a few days ago. I find this very annoying since I don't always want to browse the Internet.
View 6 Repliesi am running winxp service pack 2. having big problems with the computer at startup, it automatically launches programs lots of times eg 120 versions of iexplorer, hovering over my documents opens all documents at once, the computer is generally unstable until i have manually deleted all the programs running one by one, it starts to settle down and run ok. i have done all the usual virus,spyware, trojan scans etc - all clean. I'm worried that it could be more serious than a virus or malware.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI bought Vista since I figure I need to do a reformat and used this as an excuse to jump on the vista bandwagon,but here is my challenge with XP.This started about 2 weeks ago...when I launch Adobe Photoshop and go to open a file the program locks up and I can sometimes end the program and other times I need to reboot. I deleted and reinstalled the program and the same thing happened during the installation process. I downloaded a free picture editor (Faststone) and the same thing is happeneing. I also had lockups using the add/remove programs in control panel.
Whenever I restart my computer, Blackberry Desktop Manager pops up during the startup process. How can I make it so that it doesn't?

Whenever I attempt to boot windows XP from a tested and working HDD, I am given the screen with the option for safemode, regularboot, etc. After selecting a boot option, the PC will start the boot process, and then a few seconds reboot, without any error message. Insterestingly, I can boot just fine with the LiveCD into Linux.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI had to store my PC for a couple of months due to some home renovation. Hooked it all back up yesterday, and it booted fine. Only thing out of the ordinary was a message "new hardware requires windows to restart". I figured it was my TV tuner, it's always been touchy after a complete power-down. I chose not to restart right then, and used the pc for an hour or so, then selected shut-down. It powered down, then re-booted on its own. No problem, the TV tuner causes this, I waited to get into Windows to turn the DVR function that I know causes this, but it refuses to boot! I get to the windows screen with the progress bar, and after about 15 seconds, the screen goes black and it reboots.

It had to do with a display driver I had installed.Since then I have a new machine that running without a hitch for a while now,and this time I do not have those display drivers installed . The problem started happening after I did a scan with malware bytes and super anti-spyware and after I cleaned what it found I got the BSOD on reboot.

Then it needs to reboot to continue the installation. This is all fine except that after reboot it would show me the same prompt all over again. Is there any way to stop this from happening? (I don't want to install Cakewalk anymore). My OS is WinXP SP2.

The new mouse goes into a usb port. Whenever I try to launch my PC with the new mouse receiver plugged into the USB port my computer freezes up on a screen which says Acer. I never had this problem until I connected my computer up to a projector a few months ago and had to use the "multiple monitors" function. I just realized a handy way to launch my favorites would be using the start menu. Only thing is that it launches in the same window that's open. Any way to get it to launch in a separate window. I am hoping that from reading about IE7, this will solve itself once you have tabbed browsing (eliminating the need for New IE window>Favorites>selection), but for now is thereanything I can do? Right clicking doesn't show me an open in new window unfortunately, so I don't know what else to try.

When I put a DVD in either one of my drives, Media Center automatically starts. Both drive are configured to NOT auto-play discs, but Media Center opens everytime. Anyone know a way to disable this "feature".

When launching any program in Windows XP SP2 ( be it wither IE or Word or Excel), a COMMAND WINDOW Opens up and remains open till the application is shut down. Closing the Window also closes that application. I have Mcafee Anitvirus which is kept Current and I use SpyBot S&D for Adware and Malware removal. I have started facing a strange problem recently. I re-installed windows 2000 and tried SP2 and ie6 updates but problem still persists.On pressing key "L" anywhere, it launches outlook express as a side-effect. This is true even when some other application is open and in focus. The opened window shows inbox folder in place of default home screen of outlook express. I have noticed that in folders pane in outlook express, pressing L selects Local Folder and pressing it again selects Inbox. However, in this case the window with inbox is opened out of nowhere. I tried by deleting files from profile that may cause this (Like shortcuts) and also checked with a new user but in vain. One thing I have observed is that when I use on-screen keyboard, L key is working fine. This makes me think that it is not a shortcut recognized by explorer. I checked keyboard with other operating system in my dual-boot configuration and it is working fine there.
