View 3 RepliesMy mother-in-law's PC Seem to have a problem. Everytime she double click on IE7 It launches the program then it simply vanishes. Same goes when she tris to acces her email through Windows Live messenger (I configured her email in Windows Live Mail, so no worries for that)I can see the process in task manager ( a good dozen of time if she clicked on it that many time) At first, I thought it was a Virus... but I scanned using Avast Home Ed.... to avail. nothing found
View 3 Replies View Relatedhelp me stop IE7 from launching on start up and system reboot. I have already checked my processes, can't find anything related there. Checked my startup folder, nothing there either. Ran the MsConfig and can't find the problem there either. I even ran a full virus check and found nothing. This just started happening a few days ago. I find this very annoying since I don't always want to browse the Internet.
View 6 Replies View Relatedi am running winxp service pack 2. having big problems with the computer at startup, it automatically launches programs lots of times eg 120 versions of iexplorer, hovering over my documents opens all documents at once, the computer is generally unstable until i have manually deleted all the programs running one by one, it starts to settle down and run ok. i have done all the usual virus, spyware, trojan scans etc - all clean. I'm worried that it could be more serious than a virus or malware.

I deleted and reinstalled the program and the same thing happened during the installation process. I downloaded a free picture editor (Faststone) and the same thing is happeneing. I also had lockups using the add/remove programs in control panel.
I've got windows XP and want to stop some things running when I boot windows. I've tried running MSCONFIG and un-ticking programs in the startup tab. Next time I boot the same programs still load. When I looked in MSCONFIG again the programs were un-ticked, but if I scroll down they have all appeared again ticked. Can anyone help me cause I've got some pretty pointless things starting that slow my PC down?

View 7 Replies View RelatedSo basically my computer is not doing just about everything - I am lucky for it to be working right now. So much errors - explorer.exe does not run at start up - task manager sometimes is disabled by administrator (but works sometimes, like now, so that i can run explorer.exe from it) - windows live communictaions always has problems - MSN, not working, just freezing. There has also been shortcuts to porn sites and gaming sites put everywhere. CMD is not working either, hardly anything is. I have no idea how to fix it, someone said something about a SkyNet virus but I think it's more.

View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently my father-in-law installed a program on to my computer. It set up a desktop icon, that did not get removed when it was uninstalled. I can't even right click on it and hit delete because it's not there, nor can I just hit delete. How can it be removed manually. It is a "share-to-web upload folder" from a hp digital camera. I aslo don't have access to the cd to reinstall it and uninstall again. Also I can't get task manager to work, I hit Ctrl, Alt, Delete and nothing. I right click on the task bar and click on task manager and nothing. Iwas working a few days ago, don't know what happened, anyway to get it back? I already tried system restore but only goes back a few days.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI consider myself at least a bit competent when it comes to XP and computers... but this problem has me puzzled. I've done tons of searches on google, various forums, microsoft database, etc... and have found some similar problems except that I can't get my taskmanager to become visible. It's there, I know it because I get the resize pointers around the taskmanager's box.
Also, when I start-up WinXP. It gets to the login screen but I can't see my login picture or buttons. I can click on them and enter my password, but when it logs in (the windows start sound plays) the whole screen is black except for the mouse cursor (I don't have a wallpaper, just a black background, so I can't really tell you if my "wallpaper" is still there).
My computer boots up normally ( I am running windows xp home), the splash screen comes up, I am able to login and windows desktop shows up and starts to load, within 10 seconds or so the desktop turns black. I am still able to see the mouse and move it. I am able to do Ctrl+Alt+Delete and access windows task manager and open programs. I just have a black background as my desktop, not able to see or click anything. I have tried to start windows in safe mode, and all other modes, and it still does the same thing. I tried to do a system recovery and that didnt work either. It is unable to do a recovery. I can't seem to figure out what it is... iv also opened up norton anti virus through the task manager and did a live update . When I open programs though the Task manager it pops up over the black background and I can still use them(as I am using IE right now). So I know its not the monitor.
View 6 Replies View RelatedHello, when I start windows on my computer, instead of loading to desktop, it starts to c:windows, and I can see all the system folders. Have checked for virus using Norton scan, and also cleaned spyware, using Spybot.
View 14 Replies View RelatedNow my computer is experiencing worse problems. I can't get to my desktop or anything. When I turn the computer on, and it goes to the WIndows XP screen loading, it restarts every time it gets there. I can't even get to safe mode or anything. I'm currently using someone else's computer to report this problem.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter running Ad-aware, a trojan file was detected that couldn't be quarantined, cleaned or deleted. Husband found a way to get it deleted, but there was a warning saying that it was associated with another file. Deleted anyway.
Ran McAfee VirusScan and deleted unwanted programs it detected. After that, the mouse wouldn't work, so shut computer down by holding button in until shutdown (only way it could be shut down).
Start up went normal until the desktop background came up. Message stating "C: couldn't be found, check address again(???)" popped up. I clicked OK then it just sat there. I shut it off again.
Start up went normal again up through desktop background. No message this time. Mouse seems to work, but no icons or start up blue bar.
The only thing we can think of is the deleted file was associated with our desktop icons.
Would anyone have any idea what is causing a flash of light (a very thin line~~kinda in a square shape) to go across my screen once at startup just as the desktop finishes loading? See it once at every startup, but only at startup, and only at the end of the desktop loading.Been happening for a few weeks now. It appeared a few times while I still had ME, but appears at every startup since installing XP SP2, which is about 3 weeks ago. My Screen Resolution is set at 1024 by 768 pixels, and my Color Quality is set on high (24 bit). My screen resolution is set at 75 Hertz. Here's what I have done so far~~I ran all the tests (on all the tabs) on the DIRECT X DIAGNOSTIC TOOLS, and passed them all~~no problems found.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I start up Windows all I see is the background. Just my wallpaper, with no start bar, no taskbar, no desktop icons, etc. BUT, oddly enough, when I check running processes in Task Manager, explorer.exe IS running. The only way that I can get it to "appear" or run correctly is if I end that task, and then run a new explorer.exe. Also, when this happens, my computer doesn't seem to have completely loaded all drivers, such as sound. I have not installed any odd programs lately, and I have run a bunch of spyware checks as well.

I have done everything ran a virus scan, spybot, adware and everytime I turn on the computer on I get the same error message. I am stairring at a wallpaper with no icons or startup bar.
I got a dell laptop (inspiron 6000) and windows xp media center about a year ago. Since a month or so, most of the time windows is done booting, all i can see is my desktop picture and nothing else. Everything is accessible only via task manager (running firefox.exe, explorer.exe...)Only once out of 7-10 times will it start up normally. I have no idea what this is all about or how to find out.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have just upgraded to XP and am already very irritated by the little balloon messages that just pop up. For instance, there's one that pops up every time I start up, that says I have updates waiting to be installed. I checked, and the updates were about French grammer or some such, but every time I start up, there's that balloon again. Then today there was a balloon asking me if I wanted it to remove some of my desktop icons. How do I turn these things off, so they quit popping up?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am running Windows XP. For the past 2 days, whenever I launch Internet Explorer (version 6) or the Control Panel, the Windows Installer launches first with a "preparing to install" message. This message will display for 2 minutes or so and then the Internet Explorer or Control panel window will be displayed. This is extremely annoying. Occasionally, when I attempt to print from Internet Explorer, the Windows Installer will also launch first and behave the same way. I have spent a day searching for a solution and the only thing I have found so far is a reference to a Windows Installer Cleanup utility

My computer is really slow and it takes hours just to get to the screen where the User names are. Also when i enter my password and try to log in. The computer usually freezes after showing my wallpaper of desktop items. This is probably because I had installed a few programs. Is there a program or something to that I can use to boot my computer faster? I'm desperate also I really need to keep all the files on my computer on my computer. I have been having problems with my cpu being overheated. The CPU fan makes alot of noise.
