For the past 2-3 days, I am facing a wierd problem. When launching any program in Windows XP SP2 ( be it wither IE or Word or Excel), a COMMAND WINDOW Opens up and remains open till the application is shut down. Closing the Window also closes that application. I have Mcafee Anitvirus which is kept Current and I use SpyBot S&D for Adware and Malware removal. Here is the commands that appear in the Window and these are pretty much same for any application.
i'm currently using XP Powertoy to automate the login process of my PC. I've entered my Domain username and password so that everytime when the PC boots up it will automatically log me on. The problem that i'm having is that if there's a power failure and the PC boots up when i'm not there , others will have access to my files and folders. Is there any way to automatically lock the PC after the logon process.
my sygate firewall keeps informing me that windowsnt logon application(winlogon.exe) is trying to connect to www ad-w-a-r-e.com i have run spybot adaware and hijack this adaware is unable to clean up a file called f2j2ocloef.dll as it is in use i dont know if there's a connection I'm running windowsxp home edition
My computer starts up normally.It always just autologs on since I'm the only one using my windows xp computer. However, before anything can be displayed it immediatley logs off to the logon screen. I click my username and start the login process (i have no password and before even switching to my wallpaper or anything it says stuff like logging out and saving your settings.
I tried booting in safe mode too and the same infinite logon loop occured to, even with the default administrator account. The last thing I remember doing before this happened is I was playing City of Heroes when it crashed forcing me to restart my computer. This happens occasionally in certain programs but I've never had anything like this happen before. I tried unplugging my keyboard, mouse, usb devices, ethernet cable, no luck. Intel Pentium 4 1.7 ghz Geforce 5600 FX 256 mb windows xp home service pack 1, in case any of that matters
I've seen another post somewhere and someone else had this problem, but I haven't found a solution. We're using WXP Pro, SP2. After doing a repair install (the other person just had it after using Windows Update), at logon, after entering the correct, AND VALID, password either for a user Or the Administrator, Windows Logon displays the following Logon Message in a box: "!The system cannot log you on due to the following error: "The program issued a command but the command length is incorrect. "Please try again or consult your administrator."
No matter how many times logon is attempted, or with what account, the message continues to be issued. Thus, NO ONE can logon to the GUI. The Recovery Console can be used to logon as Administrator, but no password is requested even though there is one in place. I've searched the MSKB but didn't find any reference. Implementing "Last known good configuration" does not fix the problem.
When i boot up the system hangs at the blue 'Windows xp' screen, the 'Windows is starting' is missing and it goes no further, the logon screen does not appear so i can't get in. I have recovery console on and i can get into the drive by booting in from another drive/operating system
I always use firefox and yet,without me even having clicked internet explorer I see it launched twice in the processes.When I click end process it appears twice and then does not for another half an hour to forty five minutes. help me stop IE7 from launching on start up and system reboot. I have already checked my processes, can't find anything related there. Checked my startup folder, nothing there either. Ran the MsConfig and can't find the problem there either. I even ran a full virus check and found nothing. This just started happening a few days ago. I find this very annoying since I don't always want to browse the Internet.
I recently bought a wireless mouse for my PC, previously I had a wired mouse which plugged into a round green socket on the back of my base unit. The new mouse goes into a usb port. Whenever I try to launch my PC with the new mouse receiver plugged into the USB port my computer freezes up on a screen which says Acer. If I launch the PC without the receiver plugged in everything works fine and then I am able to plug it in and use the mouse.
I am running Windows XP. For the past 2 days, whenever I launch Internet Explorer (version 6) or the Control Panel, the Windows Installer launches first with a "preparing to install" message. This message will display for 2 minutes or so and then the Internet Explorer or Control panel window will be displayed. This is extremely annoying. Occasionally, when I attempt to print from Internet Explorer, the Windows Installer will also launch first and behave the same way. I have spent a day searching for a solution and the only thing I have found so far is a reference to a Windows Installer Cleanup utility

i am running winxp service pack 2. having big problems with the computer at startup, it automatically launches programs lots of times eg 120 versions of iexplorer, hovering over my documents opens all documents at once, the computer is generally unstable until i have manually deleted all the programs running one by one, it starts to settle down and run ok. i have done all the usual virus,spyware, trojan scans etc - all clean. I'm worried that it could be more serious than a virus or malware.
I bought Vista since I figure I need to do a reformat and used this as an excuse to jump on the vista bandwagon,but here is my challenge with XP.This started about 2 weeks ago...when I launch Adobe Photoshop and go to open a file the program locks up and I can sometimes end the program and other times I need to reboot. I deleted and reinstalled the program and the same thing happened during the installation process. I downloaded a free picture editor (Faststone) and the same thing is happeneing. My normal screen res is 1400x1050, but when I launch a full-screen game (the Sims 2 or Lego Racers...), the game makes itself 800x600, in the middle of my screen, surrounded by black. I never had this problem until I connected my computer up to a projector a few months ago and had to use the "multiple monitors" function. I'm worried it's just a simple thing that never got set back right in the display properties, but I don't know enough about that region of my computer to find it.

I just realized a handy way to launch my favorites would be using the start menu. Only thing is that it launches in the same window that's open. Any way to get it to launch in a separate window. I am hoping that from reading about IE7, this will solve itself once you have tabbed browsing (eliminating the need for New IE window>Favorites>selection), but for now is thereanything I can do? Right clicking doesn't show me an open in new window unfortunately, so I don't know what else to try.
When I put a DVD in either one of my drives, Media Center automatically starts. Both drive are configured to NOT auto-play discs, but Media Center opens everytime. Anyone know a way to disable this "feature".
My mother-in-law's PC Seem to have a problem. Everytime she double click on IE7 It launches the program then it simply vanishes. Same goes when she tris to acces her email through Windows Live messenger (I configured her email in Windows Live Mail, so no worries for that)I can see the process in task manager ( a good dozen of time if she clicked on it that many time) At first, I thought it was a Virus... but I scanned using Avast Home Ed.... to avail. nothing found

I have started facing a strange problem recently. I re-installed windows 2000 and tried SP2 and ie6 updates but problem still persists.On pressing key "L" anywhere, it launches outlook express as a side-effect. This is true even when some other application is open and in focus. The opened window shows inbox folder in place of default home screen of outlook express. I have noticed that in folders pane in outlook express, pressing L selects Local Folder and pressing it again selects Inbox. However, in this case the window with inbox is opened out of nowhere. I tried by deleting files from profile that may cause this (Like shortcuts) and also checked with a new user but in vain. One thing I have observed is that when I use on-screen keyboard, L key is working fine. This makes me think that it is not a shortcut recognized by explorer. I checked keyboard with other operating system in my dual-boot configuration and it is working fine there.
