So all going good the Hard drive i could format, then start the installation of windows, until it then begins to state that there are files missing on the disc that it needs for installation. The disc is a legit copy of windows I have purchased and is in good condition with no scratches at all so there is no data missing. further more i installed windows 98 onto it and that was fine... The laptop is not so old as to it wont support XP as it is designed for xp and previously had xp on there.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am helping a friend with her PC, she is recieving an error message reading "0x8024502D" We have tried every thing we can get our hands on to get rid of it. I have read that it has something to do with Windows XP's update program and it locks you out of most web sites requiring secure traffic. Are there any hopes of recovery? In the time we have spent today we could have reloaded XP!

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have looked at the answers you have given for this subject, and none seem to apply to me. I lost my boot disks in the hurricane, and my son has somehow changed all the passwords, including the administrator one, and then locked the computer. When I reboot, even in safe mode, I come immediately to the "Control-Alt-Delete" screen. We have tried every password we could think of, and the users now just get the error that we've been locked out. I have tried every Administrator password I would have set, including no password at all, to no avail. So I cannot get to a command prompt even from Safe Mode.
Honestly, I would be happy to just reformat, but I can't even get to the DOS prompt, and I don't have a DOS reboot disk for this computer (lost too!). No other computers are running that version of XP, so I can't make one from one of those either.
To use this setting, type the fully qualified path and name of the file that stores the wallpaper image. You can type a local path, such as C:Windowswebwallpaperhome.jpg or a UNC path, such as \ServerShareCorp.jpg. If the specified file is not available when the user logs on, no wallpaper is displayed. Users cannot specify alternative wallpaper. You can also use this setting to specify that the wallpaper image be centered, tiled, or stretched. Users cannot change this specification.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhat is the best way to share execution priviledges between limited users, power users, and administrators?Say an application has already been installed by a higher priviledged user type, and a limited user cannot execute it - e.g. an ISP login software, or Spy Sweeper. Note: ISP login software lacks profile, so I suppose I could just create that, however, Spy Sweeper is a head scratcher.Should the application be uninstalled and reinstall under All Users? How do you install an application to allow All Users to use it?I have already tried to use the "Run As" right-click Properties w/Shift key approach and that does not work.Is there an approach with regard to local security policy that would do what I want to do? How is that done? Or, is Access Control List the way to go?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have just used ACRONIS True Image to clone WIN XP Pro from an IBM Think pad to a Dell Optiplex desktop. After restoring the image to the Dell - I used the original Dell XP Pro disk to do a Repair install (not recovery console). XP then booted up into the Dell. All works fine and I have not had to re-install any of my applications. However, I am missing my display driver, Power management drivers, etc. So I can't hibernate but the display as it stands works fine.Is there some way of getting these drivers to be recognized or auto detected? I thought Windows would just auto detect them but perhaps because everything is working this step is bypassed.I can always go back and do a restore with my Dell disks but I am trying to avoid re-installing all my apps - the greater task than reinstalling XP.

How on earth do I get rid of all these? I have Windows XP/Biz
View 5 Replies View RelatedLately I have been having an issue with my cursor movements. I have an IBM Thinkpad Z61m. When this intermittent problem happens I cannot move the cursor smoothly across my desktop using either the trackpoint stick, glide pad, or USB mouse. The cursor may move or not move initially, but if it moves it stops as though stuck. I can move it again but invariably it will stick at some point. It makes it very difficult to get the cursor where I want it. I seem to fall short or overshoot. Things I have noticed that may offer a clue: When the "sticky cursor issue is happening I notice (in Task Manager) that my CPU usage is high, like 50% and higher. When this issue is not present it ranghes from zero to maybe 7 per cent.
If I am listening to audio or watching video both will start stuttering. The audio makes sounds like a machine gun, like "dat, dat, dat, dat, dat." I have also seen the blue screen of death warning me that Windows has detected a problem ans is shutting down to prevent damage to my computer. Its hard to remember all that was written on the BSOD, but I seem to recall a reference to IRQ. I use a Sprint Mobile Broadband card (Merlin S720) and thought maybe this device or its software was causing my "sticky" cursor issue, but it doesn't appear to be the culprit since I removed the card and closed the software application.
I have an IBM Thinkpad Z51 that I got through school. It has worked fine until now but now whenever I boot the laptop,it freezes at the password entry screen. I can boot in safemode no problem, but as soon as I enter the first letter of my password in normal mode, the computer freezes. Sometimes, after pressing F8 and using the last known good configurations like 8 times I can finally enter my password
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if someone could help me with a little problem I have. When I install service pack 2 or anything past sp2, it does something with my video card. Normally everything runs fine until I try to play one of my PC games (for instance Half Life 2) then either the computer freezes up, or the monitor goes black and stops receiving a signal from the video card. I know that it's not a hardware issue because running off of a fresh windows install with no updates and sp1 everything's fine, but sp2 or later causes problems with my video card, I've tried updating everything (windows, hardware etc....) nothing works except running it with no updates and sp1, and as you know you cannot run much without sp2 at least. Any help would be appreciated, I've also attached a .txt with my specs from dxdiag.
