Cloning IBM Thinkpad To Dell Optiplex
I have just used ACRONIS True Image to clone WIN XP Pro from an IBM Think pad to a Dell Optiplex desktop. After restoring the image to the Dell - I used the original Dell XP Pro disk to do a Repair install (not recovery console). XP then booted up into the Dell. All works fine and I have not had to re-install any of my applications. However, I am missing my display driver, Power management drivers, etc. So I can't hibernate but the display as it stands works fine.Is there some way of getting these drivers to be recognized or auto detected? I thought Windows would just auto detect them but perhaps because everything is working this step is bypassed.I can always go back and do a restore with my Dell disks but I am trying to avoid re-installing all my apps - the greater task than reinstalling XP.

Installing On IBM Thinkpad Error Reading
I have just received an old laptop from my sister, and had to put a new Hard drive in it as the old one had died. So all going good the Hard drive i could format, then start the installation of windows, until it then begins to state that there are files missing on the disc that it needs for installation. The disc is a legit copy of windows I have purchased and is in good condition with no scratches at all so there is no data missing. further more i installed windows 98 onto it and that was fine... The laptop is not so old as to it wont support XP as it is designed for xp and previously had xp on there.

IBM ThinkPad R51 RRUbackups Wont Defrag
I am about a 2 or 3 out of 10 on computer knowledge. Lately every time I go to defrag I keep getting: RRUbackupsCOData2 and MANY others similar to it. It ALWAYS says I should defrag but when I do I get thousands of "files" like this that will not defrag. I can tell by the color coded area that there is much that still needs to get done. How on earth do I get rid of all these? I have Windows XP/Biz

IBM Laptop Screen Won't Turn On?
I have a older Imb laptop modle T23 computer and when I shut it down rather then using standby it takes several times trying to get it to come back on. I press the little round on/off button and the (z) button lights up and I hear the fan turn on and all of a sudden a series of beeps, and the screen won't turn on. The beeping is like 8 beeps, then stops but still nothing come up on the screen. Completely black! So i turn off the computer again, and turn on same thing. I continue doing this like 30+ times sometimes more sometimes less, then finally the beeps dont start and the screen is working. So needless to say its still working in the mean time, but its just such a pain if I shut it down. . For now I am just going to continue using standby but when I have updates sometimes i need to shut down.

Toshiba Laptop 2.5 Size - IBM
I have an old Toshiba laptop. I bougth a laptop enclosure for this 2.5 size. In order to fit the enclosure I had to remove a bracet that was needed for the laptop. After removing it, I inserted it into the ide connector of that enclosure...fine, but I cannot close the enclosure the way it should. It misses by an 1'16 or 1'8 of an inch. Looking at the hd ( IBM ) it has a metal cover with 6 screws. It has all the specs of that hd. Its possible It may fit of I remove it, but I do not know if that is wise to the hd.

Blue Screen Of Death, Boot Problems, Black Screen Startup
when I turned on my computer and got the blue screen of death, so I restarted my PC. Then a black screen came up saying "Windows could not start beacuse the following file is missing or corrupt : windowssystem32configsystem."

You can attempt to repair this file by putting the winxp cd in etc...

Now when i turn on my computer there is just a black screen showing, with nothing at all on it.

Any ideas?

Blue Screen Of Death On Laptop
I understand that the system and everything is old, but it's all I've got to work with right now.I have a Compaq Evo N800C running Windows 2000 Professional.I've tried every option in the F8 & F10 setups, everything takes me back to the blue screen. I know I read that this might be a virus. I read a suggestion about taking the drive to another computer to check this - I'm very very very home user basic beginner and I don't know if or how the drive can be removed from the laptop and put into my Dell desktop to check it.

A recent hardware or software change might have cause this.If your cmoputer stopped responding, restart unexpectedly, or was automatically shut down to protect your filles and folders, choosen Last Known Good Configuration to revert to the most recent setting that worked. If a previous startup attempt was interrupted due to a power failure or because the power or reset button was pressed, or if you aren't sure what caused the problem, choose Start Windows Normally.

IBM Laptop Won't Download And Install Updates?
After getting the F11 restore (full factory format and reinstall) to work I went to the MS update site. This machine is running XP Pro SP1. I want to get the updates and install SP2. At the MS update site I see many updates needed and I start the download. They all download but on install they hang. Restarting gives the same problem. So I pop the SP2 disk in the drive and start it. It extracts, starts the Inventory, and hangs. Laptop doesn't freeze, the install just stops. Even tried it in Safe Mode and it hangs either on the Inventory or the next item, I forget which one.

Blue Screen At Startup
I'm not really sure what I did to make it happen, but I was just chatting with some people on AOL instant messenger when my computer changed to a blue screen. The message was something along the lines of. A problem has been detected and windows has shut down to prevent damage to your computer. Then it gave me some technical information (which im assuming is what's causing these problems) and it was like 0x346432HF, 0x3456DFGH (those aren't the actual values, it was just 0x[8 characters].It also said to restart my computer and run CHDSK /F to check for any hard drive problems. So I restart my computer, and everything is fine until I reach the login screen. I click on my user account and then type in my password, and halfway through that sound you hear when your computer is starting up, I get the same blue screen again. Next, I restart my computer and try to start it from the last time it worked. Blue screen during start up again.I try starting it in safe mode, blue screen during start up.I was hoping someone here would be able to help me so I won't have to resort to reformatting my computer. I really don't want to reformat my computer because I have some old games I still play like Starcraft, but I lost the cd key to it ages ago.

Blue Screen On Startup
im hoping someone can help me out of a jam. my dell laptop has been working very well until now....when it refuses to load windows, instead stalling with a blue screen on every attempt to load. the bluscreen tells me that windows was unable to load, and says "unmountable_boot_volume." under the heading "technical information". i have no idea whether that is relevant but included it in case it is.i know i was short on memory, and im wondering whether windows is refusing to load because of that.or whether a virus has taken over me computer. ive tried loading windows in every safe mode, in last known good configuration.is there a hotkey to load the DOS prompt before windows, to try and edit the windows registry from there? is there anything i can do short of reformating and reinstalling windows? if anyone knows how to deal with this.
