I am having a great deal of trouble installing Windows XPon an Acer laptop. I have added the query below, and would be very grateful if anybody could suggest a solution.
"Acer laptop model Aspire 5101, supplied with Vista Home Premium.
Hard disk is apparently split into three partitions C, D and (hidden) small F according to Partition Manager.
I have formatted the drive and tried to load Window XP Home with Service Pack 2, but willnot continue installation.
-approx 75 % complete - as (quote) "cannot find file".
What purpose does hidden partition serve? Any information please on how to achieve full instal of XP?"

So I have tried EVERYTHING to get an operating system onto my Acer 3610 laptop. It has a brand new IDE Hard Drive, brand new RAM chips.
I have tried to load XP by using the standard install disc. I have tried to pre-load the i386 folder onto the HD and run through DOS. I have tried to install DOS 7.1. I have tried to install XP using a Win98 Boot Disc. I have tried to install using Hiren's Boot CD.
Every time I try there is an unknown issue. When directly booting from XP cd gives a "LINE 1026 txtsetup.sif error." DOS 7.1 has a "CPU Error - Incorrect OPCODE." I have tried using another laptop to start the XP install process, then move the hard drive back to the Acer when XP setup reaches the "Remove DISC and restart computer" portion.
I cannot seem to figure out what the issue is. I have seen posts saying several of these are hardware issues, although every removable piece of hardware is either replaced or have been reset on the laptop.

Blue screen comes up after logging in with :
"Checking file system on C:
Type of file system is FAT 32
One of the disks needs to be checked for consistency
Windows is verifying files and folders
Checks until 100% completed then shows "Windows has made corrections to file system".
Then goes back to windows is starting up and then log in again. Cannot find a way to break this loop. Is this virus or Windows fixing itself. Problem started out of the blue, nothing like it before (over 18 months).
how can i get rid of it?

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message disable the driver or check the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters.Check your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components,

I have had an Acer Aspire 5670 for about 2 years. This morning, it was making a horrible noise (I left it on overnight and couldn't hear the noise until I went into my office). It sounded like a fan or spinning noise of some kind, but also might have been an audio file that was stuck repeating the first tenth of a second of the track. In any event, the monitor was dark and the PC was totally nonresponsive. I did a hard reboot and since then, the PC has not worked. The power button does turn it on and I can hear the HDD spinning and the DVD/CD drive looking for a disc (and it will accept/eject discs) but the screen never comes on and the PC doesn't seem to boot up. I don't ever hear the Windows welcome .wav file.
how should i fix the problem?

I have an Acer Aspire 3000 laptop with 1 gb of ram. Just put a fresh load of Win XP pro on it, nothing else. System craaaaawls just shy of freezing and is basically unusable...until I take the battery out and just run on AC. Then it runs like a champ. If and when I get a chance to look at task manager, it says that the "system" process is using all the cpu. As soon as I take the battery out, the system process goes down to practically nothing.
This is the third time I have reloaded windows in two days. The first two time it took a little longer to act up...this last time it was immediately after install.
On the first load I got as far as loading all the ACER-specific drivers for that model, and sp3...then it started.
The second time I got as far as the drivers then it started.
This last time, like I said, it was right after install.
I don't think it's hardware specific as I can go to safe mode with the battery in and it runs just fine.
suggestions?

I have Acer Aspire 4270 laptop (pre-installed with Linux), bought a year back. I got Windows Xp (SP 2) installed onto that by the shopkeeper. Now that I am installing Windows XP (SP 2) by myself, I am getting a lot of issue. These are summed as below:
1. Problem finding the LAN, Audio, Graphics/chipset drivers on internet.
2. I installed Audio driver (Z01-Audio_XP Vista-v5423whql <-- for Vista) and its working fine. Also I downloaded a LAN driver (working fine). But could not find any graphics driver.
Main Issue
3. After performing above stuff, when I create a new folder, I cannot rename it. When I try to delete it, it does NOT gets deleted but in turn creates a new folder with the name "New Folder(1)" or (2) like that.
I have tried formatting the entire hard disk and installed XP 2-3 times, still no luck.
5. Internet is working fine but cannot take backup of my stuff as same kind of problem occurs in anything I connect to my laptop.
I am really getting frustrated with the issue.
Is this issue because of a wrong driver?

I understand that the system and everything is old, but it's all I've got to work with right now.I have a Compaq Evo N800C running Windows 2000 Professional.I've tried every option in the F8 & F10 setups, everything takes me back to the blue screen. I know I read that this might be a virus. I read a suggestion about taking the drive to another computer to check this - I'm very very very home user basic beginner and I don't know if or how the drive can be removed from the laptop and put into my Dell desktop to check it.

My Compaq laptop is acting very strange. Yesterday eveerything was fine with it, next thing I know when I turn it on the next day it doesn't work. A screen comes up after the laptop's logo comes on saying "We apologize for the inconvenices, but windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have cause this.If your cmoputer stopped responding, restart unexpectedly, or was automatically shut down to protect your filles and folders, choosen Last Known Good Configuration to revert to the most recent setting that worked. If a previous startup attempt was interrupted due to a power failure or because the power or reset button was pressed, or if you aren't sure what caused the problem, choose Start Windows Normally.

I have a Toshiba laptop Satellite P20 (PSP26C-0JQRT7), it's running Windows XP Media Center. Even since my last windows update, it became awfully slow and it started giving me blue screen errors at boot time .once in a while. I would say that about 1 in 2 times, it wouldn't boot. Then I would try "last known good configuration" or just start normally and after a few tries, it would work. But since the last windows updates this morning (july 13th), I cannot boot without getting a blue screen error. The best I can do is boot in safe mode about once very two tries.

I have an Acer Aspire 3000 with a serious problem, it won't load Windows XP and Windows XP is the installed OS.
What happened before the error:
i tried to install Norton Systemworks 2006. Before this, computer was working fine, and yes, I did scan it for viruses. None were found. computer had a partition, but the partition was removed.
Now, I got this computer from a confused cousin, and the history is as follows;
She bought the computer new. However, there was this strange partition in there that seemed to be duplicating everything (or so she told me), so she took it to a friend to have the partitions removed. Okay, the computer worked fine after that. Actually, better than fine, it worked better than it had new. I know, lol, because I tried using it once before and again after.
Now, flash forward a few months and her free trail of McAfee that came with the computer ends and she realizes that she needs some sort of security on it. So she buys Norton as suggested by another friend of hers. Knowing I know something of computers (and she's not all that sure), she gets me to install Norton.
I do.
And upon re-starting, I get after the Acer load screen a black screen with "Load error! Press any key to reboot." I press enter, but nothing happens.
So, in it goes to the friendly computer guy who uses the disks that came with the machine to restore it, and it comes back exactly as it was before I installed Norton, only, minus all her saved stuff. Okay, so obviously if there was a problem it has to be gone now, right?
Well, evidently not as when I install Norton again, guess what happens? Right. It's back to the black screen of death telling me, "Load Error! Press any key to reboot."
Now, it did have Norton Ghost on it, and as per the instructions in the book that comes with Norton, I disabled it before trying to install Systemworks because the first time this happened I didn't. I've tried calling the computer tech that fixed it for me before, but I guess he doesn't want to deal with it anymore because he won't return my phone calls or my emails.
how can she solve the problem?

It's about my Acer laptop (model 5672) with Windows XP Pro SP3.
The problem with the laptop is that he randomly freezes. It can happened each two days or each 5 minutes. It doesnt matter what program Im using. When he freezes, I need to turn him off by pushing the onbutton.
When I want to reboot he refuses. He powers on, but when he should be showing the white Acerlogo screen (splash screen?), before the booting of Windows, nothing happens and the screen stays black.
The only thing I can do is power him off and start over again. But when I power him off, I noticed that at the end, the dvdwriter makes a lot of noise.
Only after a while or a lot of trying (on and off pushing on the button) he boots.
The not appearance of the white Acerlogo screen (splash?) at the beginning of the boot process tells me this isnt a software problem.
I also have to mention that he went back to the factory 3 times in 3 weeks. The first time the hdd was changed, second time the RAM memory was faulty. The third time, they said they "tested complete system=>system OK No trouble found".
how can i fix this problem?

My Acer XP screen cracked.I looked it up and was able to connect it to a different monitor by using the command: Fn then pressing F5 three times. It worked for the last few months, but Yesterday I accidentally hit the power cord of the monitor and it switched back to the laptop. I tried the command again but this time it didn't work.
Is there another command or something I could do to connect my laptop to the other monitor?
